Shelter Pet of the Week: Kai

MEET KAI

This week’s featured shelter pet is Kai, a 2-year-old grey and white bully/poodle/terrier mix available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

This uniquely looking boy is all love and fun all of the time. He knows no commands and is not yet fully house trained, but he is so eager to please. He was denied proper training and socializing and needs a patient family that will show him love and give him the time he’s been denied. To meet him is to fall in love!

MEET CHOPS!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Chops, a 2-year-old male German Shepherd available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

This handsome boy needs a very specific home. He is working on trust issues and is obedient and loyal to people that he knows and trusts. He will need an experienced home, both with working breed dogs and with training. He is an intelligent guy who loves to learn and play. He will need a home that can manage his introductions to new people and needs to be the only pet in an adult only home.

MEET SWEET YOGI BEAR!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Yogi Bear, a senior who has been given a second chance at life, thanks to Save A Pet in Port Jefferson Station.

This sweet boy is a weathered soul with a scruffy coat and tired eyes that reflect the hardships he’s endured. He had been wandering the streets in Georgia forever, eating the scraps of food people sometimes tossed his way. Then he was taken off the streets and placed on death row at an overcrowded shelter. At his age, the chance of finding a forever home dwindled with each passing day. Then his luck changed. Save A Pet sprang to action and had him transported to Long Island.

Yogi is surprisingly resilient. Although he is nine or 10 years old, he loves to play and follows his caretakers around. A veterinarian has examined him and assured the shelter that he is fit for adoption. He has some arthritis and just wants a place to hang his hat. If you see his sweet face and gentle eyes, you will understand why this dog deserves a loving family to give him the home he has always wanted, but never had.

Shelter Cat of the Week: Taco Belle

MEET THE GORGEOUS TACO BELLE!

Can Purr-fection come in a cuter package? We think not … This lovable female Persian mix at the Smithtown Animal Shelter is approximately eight years young (estimated birthdate: 2015) and was found emaciated at her namesake; Taco Bell. She is outgoing, affectionate, vocal and a full-time love machine.

When she first arrived at the shelter she had severe tummy issues. However, the Smithtown Animal Shelter has her gastrointestinal issues down to science, which can be managed through a restricted diet. As a result, her hair has grown lush and thick, she has packed on weight and is ready for a family to adore her around the clock.

Taco Belle is outgoing and loving with everyone and would do well in a home with kids, other cats and even dogs. She is just learning how to properly use a litter box and does have accidents from time to time. The staff at the shelter are hoping to find her a good home that can be patient through the learning process.

Shelter Pet of the Week: Meet Sweet Tea

This week’s featured shelter pet is Sweet Tea, a 1 1/2 to 2 year old fawn colored bully mix up for a adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. This sweet girl was found almost one year ago as a stray, a recent mom & very underweight… wandering busy roads trying desperately to get into passing cars. Since then Sweet Tea has had many firsts, like learning she loves to swim, pose for photoshoots, and snuggle up to all humans she meets. She is as sweet as her name implies, and loves to be surrounded by people.

She would do best as an only pet. She wants to befriend other dogs, but is young and likes to rough house, so constant supervision and selecting appropriate play dates is recommended. Sweet Tea will be at the shelter for one year next month. The shelter staff’s hope is that she is lucky enough to miss that particular anniversary.

This week’s shelter pet is Lil Bruno, a two-year-old tabby available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Sweet Lil Bruno was adopted from the shelter as a kitten and returned when his family fell on hard times. He is a quiet and laid-back guy that prefers a calm environment. Once he gets comfortable, he is affectionate and sweet. This poor boy is a little shell shocked to be back in the shelter; he needs a hero to rescue him. Will that be you?

MEET POKER FACE!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Poker Face, currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. This big handsome boy was found in a local feral colony. He has a heart of gold and loves meeting new people.

Poker Face obviously got into some scuffles in his life on the streets as he has some scars. This guy is FIV+, but that will not cause issues so long as he is kept indoors and safe. He can live a long and happy life with other cats as long as they are all spayed or neutered. He is ready to go to a home that is ready for all of his cuddles.

MEET MAIZEE!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Maizee, a beautiful Husky/Jindo mix up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Maizee is a two year-old Female Husky/Jindo Mix who was found as a stray and never claimed. She is a stunning ball of happy energy who enjoys meeting new people and going for runs. Maizee is looking for a family that can keep her active and shower her with love and affection. She needs to work on her leash manners, but is otherwise perfectly well behaved. Maizee would do well in a home with dogs who can match her energy. A potential home should be careful when introducing her to cats and small children, as her strength can be a little overwhelming for them. Stunning Maizee is a total delight, and we know her perfect home will find her soon enough.

This week’s featured shelter pet is Buddy, a 12-year-old tri-colored male Beagle mix up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Buddy is a sweet senior dog that deserves the BEST forever home to show him the love that he has been denied. This sweet boy was adopted and returned twice in his life. He is gentle, outgoing, loves all people and animals and is pretty low key. He will bark for attention and love. He will follow you around and be under foot, that is, when he isn’t snuggled in a ball fast asleep. He will need a home that can manage his chronic ear issues and his tendency to wander off. He is a delightful old man that just wants LOVE!

Shelter Pet of the Week: Jack

MEET JACK!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Jack, beautiful Pekingese mix currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. Approximately 2 years old, Jack arrived at the shelter on Oct. 24.

Jack loves to sit in laps and get attention and is very endearing and sweet. He is young, active and healthy but does have some quirks that a potential home will have to manage. When he likes someone, he adores them. However, until he likes them, he will growl, bark and bite at ankles. He prefers women and has some minor resource guarding that may be an issue with other dogs. He was found with a small female and they scuffled often, but did not cause injury to one another. He can also not be around children.
