Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter and Adoption Center

MEET YODEL!

Yodel-Ay-Hee-Hoo! This week’s shelter pet is Yodel, a seven-year-old male Domestic Shorthair who was trapped and brought to the Smithtown Animal Shelter as part of the Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) program. He earned his name because of the way he “sings” and almost “talks” to people. Sometimes, it even sounds like he says “I love you” when you open a can of food for him! Yodel is a sweet and gentle guy who loves to be petted and loves to get some snuggles. Don’t be fooled by his grumpy face; he’s as happy and friendly as can be.

The Smithtown Animal & Adoption Shelter is located at 410 Middle Country Road, Smithtown. Visitor hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Sundays and Wednesday evenings by appointment only). For more information, call 631-360-7575 or visit www.townofsmithtownanimalshelter.com.

Mr. Ed

MEET MR. ED

This week’s featured shelter pet is Mr. Ed, an eight year-old Male Domestic Shorthair who was previously adopted from the Smithtown Animal Shelter as a timid kitten. He was returned to the Shelter after his old family had to move and could no longer care for him. Mr. Ed is still a shy guy who will hide constantly, but with a little bit of time for him to learn to trust, he can be very sweet and affectionate. He’ll never turn down getting petted and some TLC. Mr. Ed would do best in a quiet and calm home that will have patience and give him the space he needs to flourish

If you are interested in meeting Mr. Ed, call to schedule time to properly interact with him in a domestic setting, which includes a Meet and Greet Room.

The Smithtown Animal & Adoption Shelter is located at 410 Middle Country Road, Smithtown. Visitor hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Sundays and Wednesday evenings by appointment only). MEET HANNIBAL!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Hannibal, a tan and white 5-year-old pit mix up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. Hannibal is a social and active boy looking for a family to love him. He tends to escape and make friends wherever he can, so a potential home must be able to manage that. Hannibal loves to go for walks and loves car rides. He lived with another dog for a short time and grew up with children. He has had a few ear infections and may have light allergies.

If you would like to meet Hannibal, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with him in a domestic setting. The Smithtown Animal & Adoption Shelter is located at 410 Middle Country Road, Smithtown. Visitor hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Sundays and Wednesday evenings by appointment only). Susie Q

MEET SUSIE Q!

Susie Q

This week’s featured shelter pet is Susie Q, a 10-year-old female Calico who arrived at the Smithtown Animal Shelter after her human companion passed away.

Susie Q loved her dad so much, and it is taking her some time to open up to new humans. While she certainly has a shy side and likes her alone time, she is very loving and sweet to people she’s comfortable with. She happily lived with two other cats in the past, so she can be adopted into a house with other feline siblings.

This sweetheart would do best in a patient and quiet home without any children. If you would like to meet Susie Q, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in a domestic setting.

The Smithtown Animal & Adoption Shelter is located at 410 Middle Country Road, Smithtown. Sweet Tea

MEET SWEET TEA!

Just look at that smile! This week’s featured shelter pet is Sweet Tea, a fawn and white pitbull mix up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. She is estimated to be around two years old.

Sweet Tea

Sweet Tea arrived at the shelter on Feb. 13 after being found wandering busy roads trying desperately to get into passing cars.

This loving girl had signs of having had a recent litter and was a little underweight. She is an energetic and social dog that seems to love anyone that will show her attention and is showing a healthy interest in other dogs as well as cats. She would do best in a household with children ages 13 and older.

If you would like to meet Sweet Tea, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in a domestic setting.

MEET CHEWY!

This week’s featured shelter pet is 3 1/2-year-old Chewy,  a red/brown Lab/Sharpei/Pit Mix  up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Chewy and his siblings lost their dad unexpectedly when he passed away. Don’t let his concerned look fool you; this handsome boy is fun loving and likes all people. He did live with several other dogs, though he does not like when other dogs come up to his kennel.

Chewy had some allergy issues when he arrived that have since cleared up but may resurface as seasons change. He seems to have gentle leash manners, loves belly rubs, has a goofy personality and loves to roll on his back.

If you would like to meet Chewy, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with him in a domestic setting.

MEET COCO PUFF AND SQUIDWARD!

This week’s featured shelter pets are, from left, brothers Coco Puff and Squidward, two  kitties available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

They arrived at the shelter on Jan. 21 and are estimated to be 7 years old.

These siblings are quite attached to each other. They lived with three other cats and lost their home when their dad passed away and their mom became ill. They are sweet and affectionate, just a litte shy as they adjust to their new lives. They would love a quiet home together, as they have never been alone.

If you would like to meet Coco Puff and Squidward, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with them in a domestic setting.

Tomathena Maria and Donnatello Anthony

ADOPT US TOGETHER!

This week’s featured shelter pets are Tomathena Maria (black and white tuxedo) and Donnatello Anthony (brown tabby), siblings that came from a very loving home. Unfortunately their mom found herself homeless and had to make the very difficult decision to give up her cats. They are now up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

These two love each other and are very affectionate. Their lives have already been upended and the shelter would love for them to stay together as they comfort each other very much. They have not been around kids or other animals, but they are gentle natured.

If you would like to meet these two sweethearts, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with them in a domestic setting.

The Smithtown Animal & Adoption Shelter is located at 410 Middle Country Road, Smithtown. This week’s shelter pet is Luke, a fox hound mix waiting at the Smithtown Animal Shelter for his furever home.

This lovely boy was a pandemic puppy, adopted out of boredom without the effort or knowledge needed to make him a healthy and happy dog. Luke has had no socialization and lived in a chaotic environment where he spent most of his time locked away on his own. He is a sweet boy that needs a patient home that can socialize and expose him to the world. He may have food aggression with other animals and he shows no interest in other animals at the shelter except concern.

If you would like to meet Luke, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with him in a domestic setting.

Toto

MEET TOTO!

This week’s shelter pet is Toto, a handsome 1-year-old grey tabby cat currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. Toto adores playing with other cats and anything he can turn into a toy and is very vocal.

Toto

He has an allergy condition that will likely flair up on and off throughout his life.  His skin will thicken and get red and itchy and he will require an injection of steroids when he flairs up. The condition can also effect his eyes, requiring steroid drops to decrease inflammation. He will need a very special home that can manage this chronic, but not life-threatening issue.

If you would like to meet Toto, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with him in a domestic setting.
