Shelter Pet of the Week: Gina

MEET GINA!

This week’s shelter pet is Gina, a brown tabby cat who arrived at the Smithtown Animal Shelter in late August after being abandoned outside a local grocery store.

Gina was a little shell shocked initially, but as she learns to trust, she is becoming a sweet little lady. She is approximately two years old and has no medical issues. She would do best in a quiet home.

If you would like to meet Gina, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in a domestic setting.

The Smithtown Animal & Adoption Shelter is located at 410 Middle Country Road, Smithtown. MEET HOLLY AND MISTLETOE!

This week’s shelter pets are Holly and Mistletoe, up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. This mother/daughter duo have been together for 7 years and the shelter hopes to keep them together in their next home.

Both small in stature, Holly (in the cat house) was just a baby herself when she had Mistletoe so they have grown up together. They found themselves at the shelter when their human mom became ill. Holly is loving and outgoing and Mistletoe is sweet and cuddly once she gets to know you. If you would like to meet these sweethearts, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with them in a domestic setting.

Shelter Pets of the Week: The Seinfeld kittens

This week’s shelter pets are the Seinfeld kittens — Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer — available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

These 6-month-old babies were abandoned in a tiny carrier and were infested with intestinal parasites, and fleas. They had a severe upper respiratory infection that caused two of them to lose an eye. Thanks to the staff at the shelter, today they are healthy, happy, affectionate, and playful kittens. These little fighters have been through the gamut and they are ready for the purrfect home to spoil them and love them forever! The shelter is hoping to adopt them in pairs.

MEET PRINCE CHARLES!

This week’s shelter pet is Prince Charles, a mellow, multi-colored rooster currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Charles was emaciated, stress molting and looking pretty ragged and worn when he was found as a stray in July. He had no energy ad barely made any noise. With just some time and nutrition, this man is thriving and vocal and ready for a flock to call his own.

MEET LOUISE!

This week’s shelter pet is Louise, a 7-year-old tabby cat currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

This petite beauty is as outgoing and loving as they come. Found as a stray by a Good Samaritan in July, Louise was looking for love (and food) the second she arrived at the shelter.

This little lady has advanced kidney disease so she may have months or just a year or two, but it will be packed with love and affection.

MEET DEXY!

Check out those peepers! This stunning lady is Dexy, a gray and white tabby cat currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Estimated to be approximately one year old, Dexy is as affectionate and outgoing as a cat can get. She came to the shelter as a stray with her kittens and has won over everyone’s heart. This sweetheart would be a wonderful addition to any home.

MEET KATNISS, MAGS AND RUE!

This week’s featured shelter pets are Katniss (lilac and tan), Mags (lilac and tan) and Rue (black), three rabbits that were abandoned and left to fend for themselves in a local County park. Luckily, park employees caught them and brought them to the Smithtown Animal Shelter. . The ladies have been spayed and are ready for a loving home that will NEVER let this happen to them again.

Shelter Pets of the Week: Rosie and Tabitha

This week’s featured shelter pets are Rosie (tortoise shell) and Tabitha (calico), who ended up at the Smithtown Animal Shelter after their mom passed away.

These beauties are 12-13 years young sisters. While they enjoy each other, they are not bonded. The shelter would love to see them go together but won’t require it.

Rosie is outgoing and affectionate with absolutely anyone she meets. Tabitha is still a bit shell shocked at the transition from her quiet home to the shelter and has been a bit withdrawn. They have never lived with dogs, but have lived with three other cats. Rosie would do well in any home while Tabitha would do best in a quieter home.

MEET KING JAMES!

This week’s featured shelter pet is King James, a handsome rooster who was found as a stray and never claimed. He is now up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

James is a stunning big boy who adores treats. He will follow at a distance and cluck away, begging for his favorite goodies. James is quite vocal when he is happy and comfortable. He seems to be very social with other animals and has a curious and independent spirit.

James is a decent flyer for a chicken and will need an enclosed coop as that curiosity does get the better of him. He is a good boy, but the shelter does not have the facilities to keep him safe and happy long term. Their wish is to see him in a home with some girls to keep him company and a family that appreciates how sweet he can be.

MEET APPLE FRITTER!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Apple Fritter, a 2-year-old Puggle Mix currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Sweet Apple Fritter was found as a stray and was never claimed. This little lady loves people and is gentle natured. She will likely do well with another dog her size that can help show her the ropes. Apple was clearly not walked or exposed to the world because she shows a lot of fear. Her ideal home would be an active one with the ability to show her how to be confident and how to enjoy the world around her. She would be a wonderful addition to any home.
