MEET ZEUS!

This week’s shelter pet is Zeus, a 3-year-old male Golden Retriever. This handsome boy was rescued from a Florida shelter by a local family and then surrendered to the Smithtown Animal Shelter. He is a sweet and affectionate dog that craves human contact and company.

Zeus clearly lacked proper socialization in his early years. He is a timid and jumpy and needs a strong, loving and experienced leader to help him gain confidence so he may enjoy the world around him. Because of his fears, the shelter would prefer him to go to a home with no children or other pets.

Zeus is also currently being treated for heartworm disease. He will only be available for foster or foster to adopt until his treatment is complete and he is cleared to be neutered.

This poor boy has been failed in the past; let’s write him the happy ending he deserves!

If you are interested in meeting Zeus, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with him in a domestic setting, which includes a dog run and a Meet and Greet Room.

The Smithtown Animal & Adoption Shelter is located at 410 Middle Country Road, Smithtown. Shelter operating hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Sundays and Wednesday evenings by appointment only). Yoo Hoo

MEET YOO HOO!

This week’s shelter pet is Yoo-Hoo,  a Female Domestic Medium Hair Mix at the Smithtown Animal Shelter who is estimated to be ten-to-twelve years old. She was found abandoned, thin and matted as part of a feral cat colony. Her unique coloring and stunning green eyes are hard to resist. Yoo-Hoo loves to snuggle and hang out in the sun. She has a hyperthyroid condition, but this can be managed through a prescription diet and vet visits twice a year. Yoo-Hoo would do well in a home with children and other animals that respect her personal space.

If you are interested in meeting Yoo- Hoo, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in a domestic setting, which includes a Meet and Greet Room.

Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster. If you are looking for a fun loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two!

All of the felines at the Shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board certified Veterinarian.

His favorite activities include swimming in the kiddie pool, going on walks, and playing with toys. He is also a big eater and a big kisser! Foster Opportunity:

If you have no other pets or young children at home, and are looking for a way to serve your community, please consider signing up to be a foster. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens, and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for extended periods of time.

This boy has a beautiful personality to match that handsome face. He is outgoing with people and with other cats and is very adventurous. He will need a home that can commit to keeping him indoors and giving him endless love! He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines. Angel is a very dominant and intelligent dog that needs a bully breed savvy owner that can provide her with some structure. She would do best in a home with no other pets. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines.

Nubbins

MEET NUBBINS!

Nubbins is a three to four year-old female Domestic Shorthair Mix who spent part of her early life as a shop cat. One day, she showed up to the shop missing part of her tail as a result of some unknown trauma. Fortunately, the vets at the Smithtown Animal Shelter managed to amputate the damaged part of her tail, and now she’s healthy and ready to find a furrever home!

Nubbins is a sweet and affectionate little lady who can always put a smile on your face. She is the ultimate flirt and loves getting attention! She will roll around on her back and chirp to let you know she needs some TLC. Nubbins has experience living with other cats, and would do well in a home with children young or old.

She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines.

MEET PRETZEL AND POPCORN!

Pretzel is a 10-month-old, grey/white male and Popcorn is a 10-month-old orange female. These cuties may or may not be siblings, but they are certainly friends. This dynamic duo came from a cat hoarding situation where they had very little human interaction. After a few months of care at the Smithtown Animal Shelter, they are slowly starting to come out of their shells and play.

Popcorn is a bit more playful and outgoing, but Pretzel looks to her for guidance. Their ideal home would be quiet, adult only, dog free and humans with lots of patience and love to give. These cats are used to living with loads of other cats, so they would not mind kitty siblings.

They come spayed/neutered, microchipped and are up to date on their vaccines.

If you are interested in meeting this duo, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with them in a domestic setting, which includes a Meet and Greet Room.

The Smithtown Animal & Adoption Shelter is located at 410 Middle Country Road, Smithtown. Shelter operating hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Sundays and Wednesday evenings by appointment only).

He is house-trained and very well-behaved, with excellent manners. He knows his commands and walks well while on a leash. Some of his favorite things include snacks, belly rubs, and going on walks!

Gavin is a gentle and shy pup who is slowly starting to come out of his shell. Due to his shyer nature, he would prefer a quieter home without small children. He is neutered, microchipped and is up to date on his vaccines.

If you are interested in meeting Gavin, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in a domestic setting, which includes a Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs and a dog walk trail.
