This week’s shelter pet is Lil Bruno, a two-year-old tabby available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Sweet Lil Bruno was adopted from the shelter as a kitten and returned when his family fell on hard times. He is a quiet and laid-back guy that prefers a calm environment. Once he gets comfortable, he is affectionate and sweet. This poor boy is a little shell shocked to be back in the shelter; he needs a hero to rescue him. Will that be you?

MEET POKER FACE!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Poker Face, currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. This big handsome boy was found in a local feral colony. He has a heart of gold and loves meeting new people.

Poker Face obviously got into some scuffles in his life on the streets as he has some scars. This guy is FIV+, but that will not cause issues so long as he is kept indoors and safe. He can live a long and happy life with other cats as long as they are all spayed or neutered. He is ready to go to a home that is ready for all of his cuddles.

MEET MAIZEE!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Maizee, a beautiful Husky/Jindo mix up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Maizee is a two year-old Female Husky/Jindo Mix who was found as a stray and never claimed. She is a stunning ball of happy energy who enjoys meeting new people and going for runs. Maizee is looking for a family that can keep her active and shower her with love and affection. She needs to work on her leash manners, but is otherwise perfectly well behaved. Maizee would do well in a home with dogs who can match her energy. A potential home should be careful when introducing her to cats and small children, as her strength can be a little overwhelming for them. Stunning Maizee is a total delight, and we know her perfect home will find her soon enough.

This week’s featured shelter pet is Buddy, a 12-year-old tri-colored male Beagle mix up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Buddy is a sweet senior dog that deserves the BEST forever home to show him the love that he has been denied. This sweet boy was adopted and returned twice in his life. He is gentle, outgoing, loves all people and animals and is pretty low key. He will bark for attention and love. He will follow you around and be under foot, that is, when he isn’t snuggled in a ball fast asleep. He will need a home that can manage his chronic ear issues and his tendency to wander off. He is a delightful old man that just wants LOVE!

MEET JACK!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Jack, beautiful Pekingese mix currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. Approximately 2 years old, Jack arrived at the shelter on Oct. 24.

Jack loves to sit in laps and get attention and is very endearing and sweet. He is young, active and healthy but does have some quirks that a potential home will have to manage. When he likes someone, he adores them. However, until he likes them, he will growl, bark and bite at ankles. He prefers women and has some minor resource guarding that may be an issue with other dogs. He was found with a small female and they scuffled often, but did not cause injury to one another. He can also not be around children.

Shelter Pets of the Week: Huey, Dewey and Louie

MEET HUEY, DEWEY AND LOUIE!

This week’s featured shelter pets are Huey, Dewey and Louie, three male Pekin Ducks that were abandoned in a local park. They are now safe at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and are ready to be adopted.

Domestic fowl are not well suited to living in the wild and often are picked on by the local birds; these boys were no exception. They were huddled together on the shore, scared and confused.

The shelter is not equipped to house any animals except cats and dogs. These boys deserve a pond or pool to hang out in and safe shelter from predators and extreme weather. They all love to eat and waddle around making adorable duck sounds. You cannot help but to be happy in their presence. Let’s help them find their perfect happily ever after!

Shelter Pet of the Week: Sweet Tea

MEET SWEET TEA!

Sweet Tea is a delightful one year-old Female Pit Mix who arrived at the Smithtown Animal Shelter after being found wandering around busy roads and trying to get into passing cars. Her time as a stray left her a little underweight, and there were some signs that she had a recent litter.

After initially being somewhat unsure of herself in her new surroundings, she has shown the shelter staff just how friendly and loving she can be! Sweet Tea is a small ball of energy and an absolute pleasure to be around. She enjoys meeting anyone who will give her some attention, and she responds positively to training. Sweet Tea would do well in a home with older children, and she’ll likely get along with most other dogs that can tolerate her social behavior.

MEET JITTERBUG!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Jitterbug, a white and tan female terrier mix currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Approximately three years old, sweet Jitterbug is a Southern Belle who was adopted from Florida and then surrendered to the shelter on Sept. 16 due to a penchant for escape.

Jitterbug is a social butterfly who loves to meet new people. This young lady is spirited and full of boundless energy. She needs help with some manners, but is otherwise a delightful young girl.

Shelter Pet of the Week: Barbie the Bunny

MEET BARBIE!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Barbie, a white and black rabbit currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. Barbie and her boyfriend Ken were abandoned at Sunken Meadow State Park in the beginning of August.

While the shelter is not set up to house rabbits long term, these two were in a dangerous situation and had to be taken in.

Ken was adopted right away, but sweet Barbie took a little longer to warm up to shelter staff. Now it’s time for Barbie to find her own dream home. She is a sweet and loving little bun with a love for yogurt treats and Romaine lettuce. She is litter trained and needs a home with space for her to run.

Barbie would do best with older children as she can get quite fresh when she feels scared.

This week’s featured shelter pet is Nora, a two-year-old (estimated) torbie (tortoiseshell-tabby) up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

This green-eyed stunner was found as a stray and dropped off at the shelter in July. She has been affectionate and outgoing with everyone she has met. Now she is looking for the purrfect home where whe will be loved and cherished forever.
