The Mt. Sinai Fire Department held its 15th annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny at Company 1 on Mt. Sinai Coram Road on April 13. It was a robust turnout with raffles silent auctions and plenty of food where the kids had their picture taken with the Easter Bunny. No one left hungry.

Having dropped their season opener against East Islip the week before, Shoreham-Wading River looked to ink their first win of the early season with a road game against Miller Place. The Wildcats dominated the first two quarters of play before holding Miller Place scoreless in the third to cruise to a 16-5 victory Monday afternoon, April 7.
Shoreham-Wading River midfielder Andrew Cimino, a returning varsity starter, picked up where he left off last season, stretched the net five times and added an assist in the win. Sophomore Lucas Diamond inked four assists, and three goals along with Noah Gregorek, the freshman tallied four assist and two goals.
Jackson Thompson led the way for the Panthers with two goals, and Christopher LoRe had 11 saves.
Shoreham-Wading River senior goalie Angelina Price stopped four in net.
The win lifts the Wildcats to 1-1 in the division while the loss drops the Panthers to 2-2.

With the score tied at 5 all after 12 minutes of play, the Ward Melville boys lacrosse team fell into a rhythm in the second quarter, shutting down the visiting Longwood Lions Thursday afternoon April 3. The Patriots held Longwood scoreless in the second half to cruise to a 17-7 victory in the division 1 matchup.
Ward Melville senior attack Liam Banks led the way for the Patriots with four assists and two goals, and teammates Loius Montellese and Bohdan McLaughlin both notched an assist and three goals apiece for the win.
Longwood keeper Jason Biondi had 10 saves in net and Colby Alister stopped five for the Patriots.

Comsewogue girl’s lacrosse opened their road game against Rocky Point peppering the pipes with five unanswered first quarter goals before Rocky Point’s Kaleigh Moeller’s shot arrested the Spartan’s scoring fest at the five-minute mark on Tuesday, April 8. Comsewogue stretched their lead to take a 10-2 lead at the 5:09 mark of the second quarter.
From there Comsewogue’s sticks fell silent as the Eagles chipped away at the deficit when Moeller stretched the net again to cap an 8-goal scoring tear to tie the game at 10-10 with 5:13 left in regulation.
Vienna Guzman re-awakened the Spartan offence when her shot found its mark to put her team out front with 3 minutes left in regulation. With less than 2 minutes left Comsewogue’s Kamryn McCrary split the pipes for the Spartans for the insurance goal for a 12-10 advantage, a score that would make the final buzzer.
Jayla Callender topped the scoring charts for the Spartans with an assist and four goals and McCrary had three assists and two goals.
Cadence Adamo netted four goals and two assists.
The win lifts the Spartans to 1-2 in this early season while the loss drops the Eagles to 3-1.

It was Port Jefferson’s girl’s lacrosse home opener against perennial powerhouse Kings Park where the Royals had their hands full, from the opening draw to the final buzzer. Kings Park, having defeated Great Neck South in a non-league season opener three days before, peppered the scoreboard easily winning their first league game of the season 17-4 on April 1.
Senior attack Emily Clemens led the way for Kings Park with four goals and two assists along with teammate Emily Hnis who inked four assists and two goals.
Port Jeff senior Emma Batter had a busy afternoon in net with 9 saves.
The Royals having defeated Brentwood in convincing fashion last week look to get back to their winning ways with a road game against Harborfields on April 3.
Kings Park is also back in action on April 3 with a road game against Miller Place. Both games are slated for a 4 p.m. start.

Having managed a come from behind win in the Suffolk County semi-final round against Centereach the previous week, the Bulls needed that same magic for the Class AA final when they faced the Hurricanes of Westhampton at Farmingdale State College on March 9. There would be no magic as the Bulls stayed within striking distance, but a dominant Westhampton defense kept Smithtown West at bay for the 54-40 victory.
Two juniors topped the scoring chart for the Bulls with Alyssa Lorefice notching 11 points and Catherine Piccininni added 10.
Seniors Kate Braun and Rosa Pistone concluded their varsity careers netting 9 points and 2 points respectively.
The Bulls finished their 24-2025 campaign with an impressive 17-3 record and with it a league IV championship.

Mount Sinai, the No . 2 seed, earned a bye in their Suffolk County playoff run picking off Kings Park on March 3, to advance to the county final on March 9 where they squared off against Islip, the No. 4 seed, and would trail the Buccaneers the entire way until the 3-minute mark of the fourth quarter.
Deadlocked at 37-37 with 3:52 left in regulation, it was the Mustang defense that answered the call, holding Islip to just 5 points in the final 8 minutes of play, allowing the Mustangs slowly slip away to capture the Class A title 47-40, at Farmingdale State College.
Mount Sinai’s Mia Betancourt, a junior, led the way for the Mustangs with 10 field goals and 6 free throws for a team high 26 points. Senior forward Kyla Orlando finished with 8 points and Alex Cergol, the sophomore, netted 6.
The win lifts the Mustangs to the Long Island Championship round where they will face Wantagh the No. 2 seed (22-2) on March 15 again at Farmingdale State College. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.

The Shoreham-Wading River Wildcats (No.1) at 18-2 squared off against Islip (No.4) at 12-8 for the Suffolk Class A semi-final matchup on March 3. Having played each other twice during the regular season, both teams walked away with a win setting up the rubber match at Centereach High School.
The Wildcats broke out to an eight-point lead in the opening quarter but the Buccaneers found their three-point range to take a two-point lead into the halftime break.
Being the No.1 seed may have been a disadvantage to the Wildcats as their playoff bye left them out of the heat of battle since Feb. 8.
After both teams traded points over the next 14 minutes of play the Wildcats trailed by two with 38 seconds left in regulation. Islip stretched their lead to four points with less than 15 seconds left which forced the Wildcats to intentionally foul to stop the clock. The Buccaneers closed the door at the free throw line to put the game away 46-40 and will advance to the Class A final round.
Shoreham-Wading River will lose five seniors to graduation concluding their 24-2025 campaign with an impressive 18-3 record.

The road to the Suffolk Class AA girls basketball championship went through Walt Whitman High School, pitting the Bulls of Smithtown West (No. 2) against the Centereach Cougars (No. 6) in the semifinal round on March 4.
Centereach broke out early with a dominant performance out-scoring the Bulls by 14 points in the first eight minutes of play. Smithtown West would regain their footing in the second quarter with a scoring frenzy of their own, to make it a new game at the halftime break tied at 25-25.
Still only a two-point game to open the fourth quarter, Smithtown West stretched their legs led by Kate Braun, a senior, and Catherine Piccininni, the junior notching 20 points apiece, to slam the door on the Cougars and winning the game 50-40.
Delaney Walters, an eighth grader, topped the scoring charts for the Cougars with 14 points; sophomore Leah Norman added 11 and Hayley Torres, a junior, netted nine.
Centereach concludes their 2024-2025 campaign with an impressive 17-4 season.

Mattituck and the Port Jefferson Royals met twice in the boys basketball regular season and the Tuckers came out on top on both occasions. The Royals looked to avenge those losses when both teams collided again in Suffolk Class B County final March 2 at St. Joseph’s University.
Mattituck edged ahead with a four-point advantage coming out of the halftime break and the Royals clawed their way back to their first lead of the game in the closing seconds of the third quarter. The lead would be short lived as Mattituck’s defense surged and were able to hold off the Royals in the final eight minutes of play to secure a 58-50 victory. The win sends the Tuckers to the Long Island Championship round at Farmingdale State College March 16.
Seniors Ryan Sommerstad topped the scoring chart for the Royals with 14 points and Patrick Johnston added 13. Sophomore guard Daniels Rose netted 10.
