MEET DEXY!

Check out those peepers! This stunning lady is Dexy, a gray and white tabby cat currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Estimated to be approximately one year old, Dexy is as affectionate and outgoing as a cat can get. She came to the shelter as a stray with her kittens and has won over everyone’s heart. This sweetheart would be a wonderful addition to any home.

MEET KATNISS, MAGS AND RUE!

This week’s featured shelter pets are Katniss (lilac and tan), Mags (lilac and tan) and Rue (black), three rabbits that were abandoned and left to fend for themselves in a local County park. Luckily, park employees caught them and brought them to the Smithtown Animal Shelter. . The ladies have been spayed and are ready for a loving home that will NEVER let this happen to them again.

MEET LEO!

This week’s shelter pet is Leo, an 11-month-old lab mix currently waiting for his furever home at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. This handsome man is as sweet as can be. He has lived with two smaller dogs and a cat and did well with all of them. He is timid, so he would do best with children over 12 years old. Leo has some issues with separation anxiety and will need a home that can help him manage that. He would be a perfect addition to any family.

Update: Yay! Toby has been adopted!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Toby, a 12-year-old Chihuahua mix currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

This sweet senior has not had an easy life. He has been bounced from a few homes through a rescue in Florida and landed himself in Smithtown after getting loose on a busy road a few times.

Toby is very gentle and low key and is looking for the best possible home to show him some stability for his golden years. He gets along with everyone, but will need gentle dogs or older kids that will not pounce on him. He loves to go for walks and just be around people.

MEET APPLE FRITTER!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Apple Fritter, a 2-year-old Puggle Mix currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Sweet Apple Fritter was found as a stray and was never claimed. This little lady loves people and is gentle natured. She will likely do well with another dog her size that can help show her the ropes. Apple was clearly not walked or exposed to the world because she shows a lot of fear. Her ideal home would be an active one with the ability to show her how to be confident and how to enjoy the world around her. She would be a wonderful addition to any home.

MEET DELILAH!

This week’s featured shelter pet is lovely Delilah, patiently waiting at the Smithtown Animal Shelter for her furever home. Delilah and her brother, Samson were abandoned in a park after the death of their mom.

Delilah is a bit dominant and does not accept other dogs, just her brother who submits to her well. She loves all people and getting attention. She has chronic dry eye and will need daily eye medication for life and has some skin sensitivities that will need to be managed as well.

MEET LINX!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Linx, a 3-year-old German Shepherd. Linx is highly intelligent with a love for chasing tennis balls. He will only go to a home that has experience with the breed. Linx is not a dog that enjoys cuddle time; if it’s not play time, he is not interested. He should be the only pet in a adult only home with lots of time to throw tennis balls and teach him new commands.

MEET CHRYSTA!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Chrysta, a 2-year-old domestic medium hair beauty, currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Chrysta is a gorgeous and outgoing cat with luxurious whiskers. She is very affectionate when it suits her; the rest of the time she prefers to be admired from a respectable distance. She is playful and feisty and will need a home that understands she can be as spicy as she is sweet.

MEET MIA!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Mia, a 3-year-old pitbull/mastiff/lab mix who has sadly been at the Smithtown Animal Shelter for 2 years.

A volunteer favorite, Mia is a goofy dog who loves to play and throw toys around to make you laugh. She also enjoys car rides and snuggles!

Mia is very nervous about new people. She will need a home that can properly introduce her to a new environment in a way that makes her feel safe. She would do best as the only pet in an adult only home.

MEET SUNNY GIRL!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Sunny Girl, a 9 to 10-year- old spayed domestic short hair waiting at the Smithtown Animal Shelter for her furever home.

Sunny Girl has a disposition that matches her name. She is a loving senior cat that will curl up on your lap and reciprocate all of the love that you show her. Sunny came from a home with lots of other cats and loves most of them too. She does have an overactive thyroid and will need a home that can administer twice daily medications and take her to the vet twice a year to check her thyroid levels.
