Suffolk County Police arrested an East Northport student on May 6 at approximately 3 p.m. after she made threats of mass harm to several students. Second Precinct Crime Section officers responded to East Northport Middle School, located at 1075 5th Ave., after a student made a verbal threat of mass harm to other students at the school.

Officers located and isolated the 13-year-old student, and an investigation was conducted. There were no weapons brought to the school. She was arrested at the school at approximately 3 p.m. and transported to the Second Precinct. The student was charged with Threat of Mass Harm, a Class B Misdemeanor, and released to her parents. She will be arraigned in Suffolk County Family Court on a later date.

Suffolk County Police arrested a teenage male for driving a stolen vehicle while impaired by drugs after he attempted to flee the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash in Centereach on May 4.

A 16-year-old male was driving a stolen 2008 Land Rover LR2 eastbound on Middle Country Road when he crashed the vehicle into the rear of a sedan being driven by Marion Napolitano, 73, who is undomiciled, at approximately 9:10 p.m.

Napolitano was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was pronounced dead. A 50- year-old male passenger in the sedan was transported to the same hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Their identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The teen, who was not injured, attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended by an off-duty Suffolk County Police officer.

Officers from the Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team (SAFE-T) charged the teen, who is not being identified due to his age, with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs 1st Degree. Major Case Unit detectives charged him with Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852- 6555.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the man who allegedly stole a package from the porch of an East Northport home.

A man allegedly stole a package containing six iPhones, valued at approximately $6,000, from the porch of a home on Vernon Valley Road, on April 19 at approximately 10:45 a.m. The man fled the scene in a black BMW.

Update: Suffolk County Police today arrested a driver for fleeing the scene of a crash that killed a
pedestrian in Holbrook on December 3, 2023. Following an investigation by Major Case Unit detectives, Michael Sabeno, 72, of 18 Avenue D, Holbrook, was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash Resulting in Death. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on May 16.

Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a man in Holbrook on Dec. 3. Fifth Precinct officers responded to a report of a man on the east side of Coates Avenue, just north of Frank Court, at approximately 5 p.m.

The man, identified as Richard Dirocco, 63, of Holbrook was transported via ambulance to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue where he was pronounced dead. It is believed he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Police are asking anyone with information on this crash to contact Major Case Unit detectives at 631- 852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls can remain confidential.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate two people who allegedly stole a woman’s wallet and then used her credit cards last month.

A woman distracted an elderly female at ShopRite, located at 839 New York Ave. in Huntington Station, while a man allegedly stole the victim’s wallet out of her purse that was in a shopping cart on April 13 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Credit cards from the wallet were used at Apple and Bloomingdale’s in the Walt Whitman Mall later that day.

Joseph Cawley

Suffolk County Police arrested a man on April 29 for allegedly selling fake car insurance to a Shirley man last month.

A Shirley man contacted police on March 29 after he gave money to pay for an auto insurance policy to Joseph Cawley, an independent insurance broker, on March 16 but did not receive any identification cards for the policy. In total, the victim paid more than $1,550 for the policy, which did not exist.

Following an investigation, Seventh Squad detectives arrested Cawley at his home, located on Rolling
Hills Drive in Ridge, at 1:38 p.m. on April 29. Cawley, 37, was charged with alleged Grand Larceny 4th Degree. He was issued a Desk Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court on a later date.

Update: Matthew Zoll has been located unharmed.

Suffolk County Police have issued a Silver Alert for a missing Sound Beach man who suffers from schizophrenia and is in need of medication.

Matthew Zoll, 22, was last seen at his home, located at 30 Richmond Hill Road, at approximately 2 a.m. on April 27. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and blue and white flannel pants.

Zoll is white, 6 feet 1 inch tall, and 150 pounds. He has shoulder-length dark brown hair and brown eyes.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on Zoll’s location to call 911 or Seventh Squad detectives at 631-852-8752.

Silver Alert is a program implemented in Suffolk County that allows local law enforcement to share information with media outlets about individuals with special needs who have been reported missing.

Suffolk County Police arrested four people on April 25 for allegedly selling tobacco and vape products to people under the age of 21 during compliance checks at multiple businesses in Mastic and Shirley.

In response to community complaints, Seventh Precinct Crime Section officers, with assistance from the Suffolk County Department of Health Tobacco Enforcement Unit, checked nine locations for age compliance related to sales of vape and tobacco products.

The following people were charged with alleged Unlawfully Dealing with a Child:

  • Supansa Hancock, 31, of Centereach, employed at Royal Grocery and Deli, located at 600 Montauk Highway in Shirley.
  • Abdul Wajid, 22, of Brooklyn, employed at Evergreen Mart, located at 1495 Montauk Highway in Mastic.
  • Lyanna White, 21, of Port Jefferson Station, employed at Shirley Smoke and Cigars, located at 429 William Floyd Parkway in Shirley.
  • Okan Dugan, 48, of Medford, employed at Ocean Gas, located at 980 Montauk Highway in Shirley. More than 3,000 illegal vape products were seized from Ocean Gas.All four were issued Field Appearance Tickets and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.

Suffolk County Police on April 25 cited the manager of a Melville restaurant during a New York State Liquor Authority compliance check.

In response to community complaints, Second Precinct Crime Section officers along with Second Precinct Patrol officers, New York State Liquor Authority, Town of Huntington Fire Marshall, and Town of Huntington Code Enforcement Inspector conducted a SLA Inspection at Bijou Modern American Asian Restaurant, located at 400 Broadhollow Road, at 11 p.m.

Police issued several summonses for SLA violations to the manager of the restaurant, Michael DeFrancesco, 32, of Lynbrook. A bag of cocaine was found on the floor of the establishment

The Town of Huntington Fire Marshall and Town of Huntington Code Enforcement Inspector issued six combined Building, Fire and Code Violations to the owner.

The State Liquor Authority observed that the restaurant was illegally operating as a night club, with a DJ playing music and a dance floor. The Liquor Authority issued numerous violations and the establishment was closed for the night.

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist in East Farmingdale.

James Pust was operating a 2022 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on New Highway when he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed just north of the Southern State Parkway at approximately 6:55 p.m. on April 25.

Pust, 38, of East Northport, was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage where he was pronounced dead. The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check.
