On Oct. 12, Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner and Mt. Sinai/Miller Place Chamber Alliance President Holly Bottiglieri attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the first Stretch Zone in Suffolk County at 385 Route 25A in Miller Place to wish Stretch Zone owner, Elizabeth Valencia the best of luck in her new venture.

Established in 2004, Stretch Zone has made significant contributions to the field of stretching with its unique tables and patented strapping system, aimed at providing lasting benefits to its users. The company’s goal is to improve mobility and overall well-being.

Stretch Zone offers services to a diverse group of individuals, including athletes, stroke survivors, hip or knee replacement patients, office workers, and people with conditions like multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. Town officials unveil renovations at Smithtown Landing Golf and Country Club

Town of Smithtown officials joined Parks Department staff and local business leaders at Smithtown Landing Tuesday, Oct. 24, announcing the completion of new renovations at the municipal golf and country club.

Town Supervisor Ed Wehrheim (R) described the Smithtown Landing renovation project as a $3 million investment into the facilities and amenities throughout the country club.

“This is the Smithtown residents’ country club, and this is what the residents of Smithtown deserve,” the supervisor said. “They deserve a country club that’s akin to any private country club that’s here in Suffolk County.”

Joe Arico, town park maintenance director, outlined the various improvements that were completed at the Landing, noting that the project aimed to bring the facility “up to code and modern-day standards.”

He referred to kitchen spaces that were “totally renovated,” roofs reframed with outdoor solar panels, construction of a new bar and lounge area, a newly-outfitted patio space and HVAC systems, and handicap accessibility upgrades, among other improvements.

“We can have meetings and weddings and events worthy of celebration at the club now that all of these facilities have been brought up to date,” Arico said, adding, “Aesthetically, we worked on this project tirelessly to make sure it looked good for the people of the community.”

New York State Assemblyman Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Smithtown) attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Fitzpatrick’s father, former Supervisor Paul J. Fitzpatrick, had acquired the property on behalf of the town during his administration in the 1970s, approved by town voters through a permissive referendum.

The younger Fitzpatrick commented upon the gradual development of the municipal country club since its acquisition, noting its central place as the “crown jewel” of the Smithtown parks system.

“This place is a place for everyone,” the state assemblyman said. “We have the pools, we have the golf course, and, of course, we have the catering operation.”

He added, “I think the vision that my father had — and brought along the Town Board and the people of the Town of Smithtown — it has paid dividends for many, many years and will pay more in the years to come.”

This park renovation is part of a multiphased $11 million renovation effort across the town, with similar renovations at town-owned facilities such as Long Beach Marina and Hoyt Farm Nature Preserve. The initiative will culminate with the completion of one further public amenity.

“We have one more major project that is underway, and that is Callahan’s Beach,” Wehrheim said.

Edward Jones office cuts ribbon on new location in Port Jefferson

The Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce (PJCC) hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the new offices for Edward Jones Financial Advisor Michael Sceiford on Sept. 26. The event was attended by members of the chamber, Port Jefferson Village Board, Port Jefferson Rotary Club, staff, family and friends.

Located at 640 Belle Terre Road, Building B, in Port Jefferson, the investment firm helps its customers prepare for retirement, save for education and be a tax-smart investor.

“We congratulate Michael on his new location and beautiful office suites and we wish him much success,” said PJCC’s Director of Operations Barbara Ransome.

New ownership for Hair, Lash & Brow Bar in Port Jefferson

Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting for Hair, Lash & Brow Bar in the Village of Port Jefferson on Aug. 6.

The well-attended celebration included members of the chamber, Town of Brookhaven Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich, staff, family and friends who came out to wish new owner Julianna Cordi the best of luck in her new venture and included a catered party, special themed cake, favors, and a champagne toast.

Located at 138 East Main Street, the full-service salon offers everything from blow-outs, hair cuts and color to hair extensions, lash extensions and spa facials.

Members of the Three Village Chamber of Commerce, Brookhaven Town Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich, mascot Dee Dee the Chickadee, staff, friends and family joined Brooke Ramirez in celebrating the grand opening of her second retail location of Wild Birds Unlimited in Suffolk County with a ribbon cutting on Aug. 2.

Ramirez (pictured with scissors) is also the owner of the Wild Birds Unlimited nature shop at 911 Montauk Highway in Oakdale, having been the manager of that store prior to her purchase in 2021. On July 27th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker attended the ALDI grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for their new location in Rocky Point in the Crossroads Plaza East at 75 Route 25A.

“The Rocky Point ALDI will be a tremendous addition to our community,” said Legislator Anker. “Their commitment to fresh produce and affordable pricing means that we will have more options for local, healthy food choices.”

Legislator Anker greeted the crowd before the grand opening, thanking them for attending and coming out for the ceremony. She also assisted the Store Manager Emely Acosta with the ribbon cutting. After, Legislator Anker and her Chief of Staff Dorothy Cavalier greeted patrons in the store and spoke with District Manager Rachel Gregory about the company’s commitment to sustainability and affordability. This is the 13th ALDI store on Long Island.

Aldi in Rocky Point to hold grand opening, ribbon cutting July 27

It’s official! The new Aldi supermarket coming to Rocky Point has set an opening date: The store will open its doors on Wednesday, July 26 for a “sneak peak” and a grand opening will be held on Thursday, July 27 with a ribbon cutting scheduled at 8:30 a.m. The first 100 customers at the grand opening will receive a golden ticket that could be worth up to $100. In addition, free tote bags will be distributed while supplies last and shoppers can also enter a contest for a chance to win a $500 gift card from July 27 to 30. Residents in Rocky Point and Miller Place received a flyer in the mail last week with a $5 coupon off a minimum $30 purchase.

Located at 75 Route 25A, the German-owned discount supermarket will join Dollar Tree, Mattress Firm, Music Haus and Dime Savings Bank in the Crossroads Plaza East shopping center in an approximately 22,000-square-foot space previously occupied by Modell’s Sporting Goods, which closed its doors in 2020, and Mattress Firm which relocated to another part of the shopping center. The store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Known for its budget-friendly prices, Aldi offers weekly specials, fresh produce deliveries daily, online shopping, curbside pickup, home delivery and avoids “hidden costs” by selling 90% exclusive, private-label items instead of big brands. Customers are encouraged to bring their own tote bags, must bag their own groceries and pay a quarter to rent a shopping cart.

The Rocky Point location is Aldi’s 13th store on Long Island with stores planned in Medford at 2799 Route 112 in the Medford Crossings shopping center, East Northport at 4000 Jericho Turnpike in the Huntington Square shopping center and Central Islip on the corner of Carleton Avenue and South Research Place.

Other locations in Suffolk County include Bohemia, Lake Grove, Selden, Lindenhurst, North Babylon, Patchogue, Riverhead, and Shirley. By the end of the year, Aldi plans to have more than 2,400 stores nationwide.

In a press release, Aldi said the new stores come in response to customer demand in the wake of grocery store inflation.

“Our growth is led by our customers, and they continue to want more Aldi locations coast-to-coast,” Aldi U.S. CEO Jason Hart said in a statement. “While inflation is undoubtedly driving unprecedented demand for affordable groceries, we know that once customers experience the Aldi difference, they keep shopping with us, even when the economy improves.”

Stony Brook Medicine holds ribbon cutting ceremony for new facility at Smith Haven Mall

Stony Brook Medicine’s new facility at Smith Haven Mall held its official ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, July 19, welcoming the completion of the facility’s Phase One of its advanced specialties, which will likely be finished by 2027.

The new facility, which will be the new home to the different advanced specialties that were found on Technology Drive, offers a much more accessible “one-stop shop” for patients.

Maurie McInnis, president of Stony Brook University and overseer of Stony Brook Medicine, spoke at the ceremony, saying Stony Brook Medicine’s new location will be reminding their patients that they are there for them.

“We believe in quality health care that is accessible to all,” McInnis said in her speech. “As a world-renowned medical system and an entrusted flagship university for New York State, it is our duty and our privilege to make it so,” she continued.

Dr. Todd Griffin, vice president for clinical services and vice dean for clinical affairs at Stony Brook Medicine, shared his outlook for the facility’s future, saying, “We eagerly anticipate hosting a health care open house in the near future where our community and patients can explore our beautiful facility and learn more about the services that are available to them.”

Since Smith Haven Mall falls in both the towns of Brookhaven and Smithtown, Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine (R) and Smithtown Supervisor Ed Wehrheim (R) each spoke during the ceremony.

“You think about life and you wonder, and you ask people in their everyday lives what concerns them,” Romaine said after praising SBU, the hospital and its staff.

“They’re concerned about health, because without health, you don’t have anything else. This facility will do so much good for so many years and for so many people,” he added.

Wehrheim spoke about the renaissance he believes is underway in Smithtown.

“This is an excellent partnership and a huge benefit both to the new residents that will be coming to live in our Town of Smithtown, and also for Stony Brook Medicine,” he said, expressing his gratitude to McInnis.

“We make laws in government, but you folk, you doctors and staff and nurses, actually save lives and that’s what’s important to a community.”
