ALL EARS

Visitors to Stony Brook Village this week will be treated to a beautiful lawn display on Christian Avenue. The approximately 15-foot cascading scene with large Easter eggs, bunnies and chicks is an annual event that brings a smile to all who drive by.  Photo by Heidi Sutton/TBR News Media

WAITING FOR CUPID

Tom Caruso spied this female cardinal on a Bittersweet vine during a recent visit to Arthur Kunz County Park in his hometown of Smithtown. He writes, ‘I found the bird sitting on a branch looking at the barren trees around her as if she was reluctantly resigned to the cold, unforgiving months of winter to come. Although the park is small, it has a lot to offer as far as wildlife and scenery.

THE DAY AFTER

Art Billadello of Setauket snapped this photo of icicles outside the bedroom window of his 1735 house on Jan. 30, the day after Long Island’s first blizzard of the year.

He writes, “This photo was taken from one of the windows in the bed chamber (bedroom) that President George Washington stayed in on April 22nd, 1790. Of that visit, he wrote in his journal: ‘.. .to the house of a Captn. Roe, which is tolerably decent with obliging people in it.’ I take that as a compliment.

A FLYING LEAP

Tom Caruso captured this fleeting moment on a recent trip to Caleb Smith State Park Preserve in his hometown of Smithtown. He writes, ‘It was a beautiful day. I wandered around the park and saw several deer grazing in an open field. I circled around the field to get a better look when a herd of deer came crashing out of the woods to my right and bounded across the field. I caught this deer in full flight and it was quite a sight.’

NEW YEAR’S EVE VISITORS

Jay Gao of Stony Brook snapped these incredible shots on Dec. 31, 2021 from Crane Neck Point Beach. He writes, ‘My wife and I were taking a walk from West Meadow Beach in the afternoon. When we arrived the rocky area near Crane Neck Point, to our surprise, we saw several harbor seals resting on the rocks. It was low tide, so I could get close enough to take these photos.’

SILVER BELLS

Gerard Romano of Port Jefferson Station was out with his camera on Dec. 17 ‘looking for something appropriate for the season’ when he spied these pretty bells adorning the door of the Belle Terre Village Hall and took the perfect shot. Happy Holidays!
