On August 20, Town of Brookhaven Councilwoman Jane Bonner met with Coram Civic Association President Kareem Nugdalla and local residents James and Jessica Fanning, with their children Jack and Penelope and cousin Alicia Cordner at the new Diamond in the Pines Park playground.

Located at 1921 Route 112 in Coram, the park also features ball fields, benches, chairs, gazebo, multi-purpose field, playground, restrooms, trails and more.

Councilwoman Bonner said, “Diamond in the Pines is an appropriate name for this jewel of a park. It’s a real fun place where so many families come to enjoy and play in a safe and comfortable environment. I thank the Parks Department for all they do to maintain and improve our parks and playgrounds, and I welcome all Brookhaven residents to stop by and enjoy this park or any one of our beautiful Town Parks.”

Silver Dollar Pottery & Crafts, 569 Route 25A, Rocky Point celebrated its grand opening on Aug. 16. The event was attended by family, friends, staff, Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner, manager of Customer and Community Partnerships for PSEG Long Island Veronica Isaac, and representatives from Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio’s office and Suffolk County Legislator Chad Lennon’s office. 

Owner Patricia Patten (seventh from left) was granted a $25,000 Main Street Revitalization Grant from PSEG Long Island to help build her business, which is designed to inspire creativity and provide a welcoming environment for artists of all levels.  

Councilwoman Bonner said, “I want to wish Patricia and her staff the best of luck and say ‘thank you’ for opening Silver Dollar Pottery in Rocky Point. She has created a comfortable and creative environment where everyone is welcome to have fun and learn a new craft. Please stop by and say hello.”

“PSEG Long Island has created financial incentive opportunities to help our customers, like Patricia, realize their entrepreneurial dreams,” said Isaac. “We are proud to provide Silver Dollar Pottery with a $25,000 Main Street Revitalization grant and wish Patricia much success as she opens her lovely new pottery studio.”

The gallery, which features a collection of unique handmade items, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.to 6 p.m. Classes, which include pottery, crocheting, watercolor painting and candle making, begin the week of Sept. 9.

On July 3, Councilwoman Jane Bonner (seated) donated blood during the New York Blood Center Blood Drive in memory of John Drews, Jr.at the Sound Beach Fire Department headquarters.

The event was co-sponsored by Councilwoman Bonner, Suffolk County Legislator Chad Lennon, New York State Senator Anthony Palumbo and New York State Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio. The blood drive collected 46 pints of blood, which could save 138 lives. Pictured with Councilwoman Bonner are John Drews (center), Ginny Drews (right) with a nurse from New York Blood Center (left). Each donor received a Mets T-shirt and a pair of New York Mets tickets.

Eighty percent of blood donations are collected at mobile blood drives set up at community organizations, companies, schools, places of worship or military installations. The remaining 20 percent are collected at Blood Donation Centers. Special guest speaker was Town of Brookhaven Councilwoman Jane Bonner 

On June 4, Councilwoman Janer Bonner served as the Keynote Speaker at the Decision, Women in Commerce and the Professions Installation of Officers and 45th Anniversary Dinner. The event was held at the Meadow Club in Port Jefferson Station.

Decision, Women in Commerce and the Professions is an organization that has been serving the women of Brookhaven for the past 45 years. Membership includes women who are professionals and those who are administrators or who own their own businesses.  In addition to providing education and networking opportunities, Decision has been dedicated to making charitable donations for women’s causes in the community.  Over $300,000 has been shared with recipients as diverse as Good Samaritan Hospice, Mather Hospital, the Flag Fund at the corner of 112 and 347 in Port Jefferson Station and AGAPE, serving lunches in school districts where there are children with “food insecurity.”

On May 3, Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner (holding scissors) joined in celebrating the grand opening of Paws in Puddles, a small, family owned and operated self-service dog wash and grooming salon located at 1844E Route 112 in Coram with a ribbon cutting.

The new business, owned and operated by Eduardo Fernandez (center left) and his wife, Christine Fernandez (center right), is equipped with multiple tubs for self-service dog washing, or you can entrust your pet with the “Paws in Puddles” staff to wash for you. If you are interested in their staff grooming services, bring in your dog ahead of time for a fair and accurate quote in person.

On May 4, Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner was at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center in Mt. Sinai for her first Paper Shredding, Electronic and Prescription Drug Take Back recycling event of the year. The beautiful weather brought out 520 vehicles to drop off 6360 lbs. of electronic waste, 16,480 lbs. of paper for shredding and 11 boxes of prescription drugs for proper disposal.

On May 8, Councilwoman Jane Bonner (center) was at Heritage Park (“The Wedge”) in Mt. Sinai to meet with Jennifer Roth (left), Membership Secretary for the Mt. Sinai Civic Association and Robert Woods (right), Director of North Shore Youth Council.

They were there to unveil the new, recently installed playground equipment. The Heritage Park amenities include ball fields, multi-purpose field, playground, restrooms and walking trails. There are also electric vehicle charging stations in the parking lot and a picnic area. 

Located at 633 Mount Sinai-Coram Road, Heritage Park is one of the premier recreation facilities in Brookhaven Town. It is open 7 days a week from sunrise to sunset. Parking is free. On May 8, Councilwoman Jane Bonner met with Ann Becker, former Mt. Sinai Civic Association president, to present her with the Town of Brookhaven Women’s Recognition Award for her “Outstanding Service in the Town of Brookhaven.”

Ms. Becker was unable to attend the March 21 event, so Councilwoman Bonner brought the award to her. The recipients of the 2024 Women’s Recognition Awards were honored at the 38th Annual Women& Recognition Night, held on March 21 at Brookhaven Town Hall. The event, which was open to the public, was sponsored by the Town’s Office of Women Services, Department of General Services.

Nominated by members of the community, the winners either live or work in the Town of Brookhaven and have demonstrated excellence in their endeavors in a variety of areas. Nominations were considered by members of Brookhaven’s Women’s Advisory Board and selected based on resumes and letters of recommendation.

Firehouse Restaurant and Bar celebrated their grand opening with a ribbon cutting on April 20. Photo from TOB

On Saturday, April 20, Brookhaven  Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico, community members and local firefighters were in Sound Beach to celebrate the the grand opening of the new Firehouse Restaurant and Bar with a ribbon cutting .

Formerly The Hartlin Inn, the restaurant, located at 30 New York Avenue, is a tribute to fallen New York City Firefighter Joey DiBernardo, who died in 2011 from injuries sustained during a 2005 fire in the Bronx.

Open noon to midnight daily, the menu at the Firehouse Restaurant and Bar includes soups and salads, starters, sandwiches, burgers, entrees, desserts and more. There is also a bar menu and happy hour menu and takeout is available.
