Shelter Pets of the Week: Frankenstein and Catapotumous

Adopt Frankenstein and Catapotumous!

This week’s shelter pets are Frankenstein and Catapotumous – Frankie and Cat for short. This inseparable duo arrived at the shelter after their owner, sadly, could no longer care for them. Their deep bond is truly heartwarming, and our greatest wish is to find them a loving home where they can enjoy their golden years together.

Frankenstein is a stunning gray and white domestic shorthair, estimated to be around 17 years young. The senior of the pair, exudes warmth and affection, winning over everyone she meets. Frankie would love nothing more than to be adopted alongside her best friend, Cat. She would do well in a home with older children, other cats, and calm dogs.

Catapotumous, is a gorgeous thirteen -year-old, brown and white, domestic short hair, female tabby. Her affectionate nature makes her the perfect companion, ready to share her love and playfulness with a loving family. Expect a double dose of purring, lap naps and snuggles while in the company of Cat and her bestie Frankie. Cat would thrive in most home environments, including those with older kids, other cats, and calm dogs.

These two lovely ladies bring double the love and companionship—if you’re looking to add warmth and joy to your home, consider opening your heart to Frankie and Cat. They’re ready to shower their new family with endless love!

All of the felines at the Shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc) by a board certified Veterinarian.

Shelter Pets of the Week: Hoyt, King Charles and Chanticleer

This week’s featured shelter pet trio are Hoyt, King Charles and Chanticleer, three roosters up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

The boom in chicken ownership the past few years has created a problem for the males. Roosters are often a source of complaint for neighbors and prohibited in some areas. When an accidental boy is hatched, they often find themselves kicked out of the flock because placement for roosters is getting increasingly harder to find.

Hoyt, King Charles, and Chanticleer were all abandoned as strays to fend for themselves. Each is a young fellow, with Charles being the oldest at just over a year old. These boys were all found emaciated, dehydrated and weak. They are all now happy and healthy, but are lonely and looking for a flock of their own.

King Charles (formerly Prince Charles) is a handsome rooster who has been at the Animal Shelter for a year. He is docile and easygoing, and seeks out physical closeness with any animal he can find. Charles enjoys eating blueberries and tomatoes.

Chanticleer has been with at the shelter for a short time, and he has shown to be an active guy that is slow to trust people. He has yet to decide what his favorite treats are, though he seems to like tomatoes. Chanticleer can have a spicy attitude, but will learn to be better as he settles in.

Hoyt is the shelter’s newest addition and is proving to be docile and friendly with a love for corn and other animals. Hoyt has some weight to gain, but is making great progress.

All three of them enjoy crowing the day away. They’ve been through a lot in their short lives, and they need a safe and nurturing environment that will help them flourish.

Please note: The Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter is not equipped to safely house animals other than dogs and cats long term. However, if an animal is in danger and needs housing temporarily until another rescue has room, they will do their best to provide safe shelter while they can. While the animal waits for space to open in another rescue, it will be available for adoption through our Adoption Center.

Shelter Pets of the Week: Chrissy and Janet

MEET CHRISSY AND JANET!

This week’s featured shelter pets are, from left, Chrissy and Janet, a pair of six year-old sisters who grew up in the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

They were both adopted into a new home for a year and a half, but their new parents sadly had to return them after they fell on hard times.

Both of these loves are very sweet and enjoy snuggles and being petted. They are initially shy, timid, and low-key when first meeting someone, but will open up when given space and time to learn to trust.

Chrissy and Janet have lived with other cats before, and would do best in a quiet home without any children or loud dogs. We would love for these sisters to be adopted together, but they can be separated for the right home.

MEET JOHNNY KNOXVILLE AND PRINCETON!

This week’s featured shelter pets are Johnny Knoxville (orange tabby) and Princeton who recently arrived at the Smithtown Animal Shelter a few weeks apart as strays.

Estimated to be approximately 1 year old, Johnny is very shy while 2-year-old Princeton is very affectionate with people. They were in side by side cages and seemed to want to be together; once in the same cage they became inseparable and have a created a little bromance. They may be adopted separately but it is preferred that they be adopted together.

MEET COCO PUFF AND SQUIDWARD!

This week’s featured shelter pets are, from left, brothers Coco Puff and Squidward, two kitties available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

They arrived at the shelter on Jan. 21 and are estimated to be 7 years old.

These siblings are quite attached to each other. They lived with three other cats and lost their home when their dad passed away and their mom became ill. They are sweet and affectionate, just a litte shy as they adjust to their new lives. They would love a quiet home together, as they have never been alone.

MEET HUBIE, SCHUBIE AND DUBIE!

This week’s shelter pets are guinea pigs Hubert aka Hubie, Schubert aka Schubie and Dubois aka Dubie, currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

These 3 guinea pigs are all males of unknown ages. They are a bit dominant together, so they can be adopted separately. All three were abandoned in Blydenburgh Park and left to fend for themselves. This is certain death for a guinea pig! Luckily, a Good Samaritan witnessed it and called it in.

Hubert is the tan and white – shy and gentle

Schubert is tri-colored (calico) very curious and vocal, he is still nervous about pets but will take treat from people and sniff/nibble on fingers. He is the largest

Dubois is the smallest of the trio and is the most active/playful. He will run and hop about the cage and is really beginning to enjoy head scratches.

**Please note the Smithtown Animal Shelter is not equipped to handle anything other than dogs/cats but as all rescues were full, they are holding these guinea pigs until they can get a place for them.

Shelter Pets of the Week: The Seinfeld kittens

This week’s shelter pets are the Seinfeld kittens — Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer — available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

These 6-month-old babies were abandoned in a tiny carrier and were infested with intestinal parasites, and fleas. They had a severe upper respiratory infection that caused two of them to lose an eye. Thanks to the staff at the shelter, today they are healthy, happy, affectionate, and playful kittens. These little fighters have been through the gamut and they are ready for the purrfect home to spoil them and love them forever! The shelter is hoping to adopt them in pairs.

This week’s featured shelter pets are Katniss (lilac and tan), Mags (lilac and tan) and Rue (black), three rabbits that were abandoned and left to fend for themselves in a local County park. Luckily, park employees caught them and brought them to the Smithtown Animal Shelter. . The ladies have been spayed and are ready for a loving home that will NEVER let this happen to them again.

Shelter Pets of the Week: Rosie and Tabitha

This week’s featured shelter pets are Rosie (tortoise shell) and Tabitha (calico), who ended up at the Smithtown Animal Shelter after their mom passed away.

These beauties are 12-13 years young sisters. While they enjoy each other, they are not bonded. The shelter would love to see them go together but won’t require it.

Rosie is outgoing and affectionate with absolutely anyone she meets. Tabitha is still a bit shell shocked at the transition from her quiet home to the shelter and has been a bit withdrawn. They have never lived with dogs, but have lived with three other cats. Rosie would do well in any home while Tabitha would do best in a quieter home.

Shelter Pets of the Week: Ranger and Lily

This week’s shelter pets are 18-year-old Ranger (tuxedo) and 12-year-old Lily (tabby), currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. These sweet seniors lost their home due to a house fire. They are bonded and would prefer to go to a home together.

Ranger and Lily love other cats and lived with a small child. They deserve a warm lap and lots of love to enjoy their golden years. They are very healthy for their ages and just had their teeth all polished up!
