MEET CHEVY!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Chevy, a two year-old male Pit Mix who had a very difficult start to his young life. It’s hard to imagine that this happy pup was once found on the side of the road, broken and beaten this past New Year’s Eve. Thanks to the kind hearted nature of law enforcement at the Suffolk County Police Department, a truly devoted team at Animal Surgical Center, one saintly foster family, and the selfless team at the Smithtown Animal Shelter, Chevy is thriving, back to good health, and awaiting his furrever home. Since his recovery, Chevy has become quite a celebrity, making appearances in viral TikToks, and getting profiled by News 12 and Newsday. Chevy loves to listen to music, especially Andrea Bocelli, earning him the nickname Bocelli, or Bo for short.

Chevy is finally getting to experience the happy puppy life that he never had before. He has gained back weight, is strong and mobile despite still having a slight limp, and loves to snuggle and kiss. Even though he was mistreated by humans before, he is still very trusting and friendly to all new people. He gets along with some dogs and has lived in a multi-pet home for the period of his recovery. Chevy is the perfect example of the ultimate comeback story, and he won’t let anything get him down.

Chevy will only be adopted into the best of homes who will provide him with the love and care he was missing in his past life. Due to his limited vision, he should only be with older kids that will respect his sight trouble. He also has a well-managed food allergy. He needs a family that is fully committed to the promise that Chevy will never know another bad day again. Chevy can’t wait to find his perfect furrever home, and we know that home is out there somewhere for him.

MEET UFEE!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Ufee, a fourteen year-old Male Pomeranian Mix who was abandoned at a park and is now up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. 

Don’t let his age fool you, he looks and acts just like a young pup! Ufee is a happy and friendly guy who enjoys spending time around people. He is an absolutely beautiful dog who is very gentle and kind. Ufee has a slightly under active thyroid and some limited hearing. He also has some halitosis, but the Animal Shelter is working on taking care of this. Ufee would do well in a home with other pets and with children over the age of ten. He is ready to share his love with a lucky family, and we know that perfect home is out there somewhere for him.

Santiago Smalls

This week’s shelter pet is sweet Santiago Smalls, a little man with a huge heart who loves meeting people, gives out kisses freely to anyone willing to receive them and is simply endearing.

Santiago is very unsure around other animals; with proper introductions he will likely do well with other pets. He does like to lift his leg, so belly bands may be needed in the beginning. He also is just learning what it means to be walked on a leash but he is a quick learner and a happy soul that any family would be lucky to have.

MEET LINX!

This week’s shelter pet is Linx, a four year-old Male German Shepherd who was taken in to the Smithtown Animal Shelter as a stray and never claimed. He is highly intelligent, well-mannered and is always in the mood to play fetch! He requires a very active home that will meet his mental and physical stimulation needs. Linx is a good-natured dog that needs a strong owner who will provide him with some structure and companionship. Linx should only be adopted into a pet-free and child-free home with an experienced German Shepherd owner that will respect his personal space.

MEET PRALINE!

This week’s shelter pet is sweet Praline who was found as part of the Smithtown Animal Shelter’s TNR program. This little lady is timid and shy, but will warm up and enjoy getting petted once she gets to know you. 

Praline loves other cats and seeks out their companionship. This little beauty would do best in a quiet home with other cats and someone that can give her time and patience.

MEET BLAZE!

This week’s shelter pet is Blaze, a ten year-old Male Pit Mix who has been a resident of the Smithtown Animal Shelter for over four years. Blaze is a wonderful mix of couch potato and walking buddy! He is a fan of toys, swimming in the doggy pool and getting some food!

Blaze is a very protective dog who requires proper introductions to new people, but his approval can be bought with cookies. Once Blaze trusts you, he’ll love you forever. He gives kisses to all his favorite people and will tolerate other animals from a distance, just not in his space. You can find Blaze wearing his favorite winter jacket when the weather gets cold. This boy is a staff favorite, and he is low key and easy going when settled in. He has great leash manners and will adorably carry his toys around.

Blaze should be the only pet in a child-free home.

Ratatouille
Ratatouille

MEET RATATOUILLE!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Ratatouille, a five year-old female domestic shorthair mix up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. 

A total cuddle bug, Ratatouille loves people, and is a big fan of getting her head scratched. She is super sweet, affectionate, and friendly. She has a reactive skin condition called Eosinophilic Granuloma that causes her to have some itchy and discomforting lesions on her lip and her side. Fortunately, these lesions are not contagious to other animals, but they do require steroid treatment from time to time. 

Ratatouille is ready for her new home, and we know that perfect home is out there somewhere for her.

MEET YODEL!

Yodel-Ay-Hee-Hoo! This week’s shelter pet is Yodel, a seven-year-old male Domestic Shorthair who was trapped and brought to the Smithtown Animal Shelter as part of the Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) program. He earned his name because of the way he “sings” and almost “talks” to people. Sometimes, it even sounds like he says “I love you” when you open a can of food for him! Yodel is a sweet and gentle guy who loves to be petted and loves to get some snuggles. Don’t be fooled by his grumpy face; he’s as happy and friendly as can be.

Mr. Ed

MEET MR. ED

This week’s featured shelter pet is Mr. Ed, an eight year-old Male Domestic Shorthair who was previously adopted from the Smithtown Animal Shelter as a timid kitten. He was returned to the Shelter after his old family had to move and could no longer care for him. Mr. Ed is still a shy guy who will hide constantly, but with a little bit of time for him to learn to trust, he can be very sweet and affectionate. He’ll never turn down getting petted and some TLC. Mr. Ed would do best in a quiet and calm home that will have patience and give him the space he needs to flourish

MEET CHEVY!

This week’s shelter pet is Chevy, a one and a half year-old male pit mix up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Chevy  has had a very difficult start to his young life. He was found by law enforcement lying on the side of the road on New Year’s Eve. He was emaciated, completely blind, and very scared and injured. X-rays showed that he had broken and fractured bones all over. It became clear that these injuries were the result of either abuse or negligence.

Chevy had surgery to repair a dislocated elbow, and spent some time in a foster home so his recovery could be closely monitored. Chevy’s condition began to improve, as he started to perk up and play, and showed signs of vision returning in one of his eyes. He still gave a happy greeting to everyone who walked by and would nudge people for affection. His body may have been damaged, but his attitude and spirit would never be broken.

While his vision was improving in one eye, his other eye still had a detached retina, swelling, and light bleeding. The difficult decision was made to remove this eye. Now that he has fully recovered from this surgery, his doctors believe he will live a pain-free life. Chevy is finally getting to experience the happy puppy life that he never had before. He has gained back weight, is strong and mobile despite still having a slight limp, and loves to snuggle and kiss. Even though he was mistreated by humans before, he is still very trusting and friendly to all new people. Chevy is the perfect example of the ultimate comeback story, and he won’t let anything get him down.
