Silver Dollar Pottery & Crafts, 569 Route 25A, Rocky Point celebrated its grand opening on Aug. 16. The event was attended by family, friends, staff, Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner, manager of Customer and Community Partnerships for PSEG Long Island Veronica Isaac, and representatives from Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio’s office and Suffolk County Legislator Chad Lennon’s office. 

Owner Patricia Patten (seventh from left) was granted a $25,000 Main Street Revitalization Grant from PSEG Long Island to help build her business, which is designed to inspire creativity and provide a welcoming environment for artists of all levels.  

Councilwoman Bonner said, “I want to wish Patricia and her staff the best of luck and say ‘thank you’ for opening Silver Dollar Pottery in Rocky Point. She has created a comfortable and creative environment where everyone is welcome to have fun and learn a new craft. Please stop by and say hello.”

“PSEG Long Island has created financial incentive opportunities to help our customers, like Patricia, realize their entrepreneurial dreams,” said Isaac. “We are proud to provide Silver Dollar Pottery with a $25,000 Main Street Revitalization grant and wish Patricia much success as she opens her lovely new pottery studio.”

The gallery, which features a collection of unique handmade items, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.to 6 p.m. Classes, which include pottery, crocheting, watercolor painting and candle making, begin the week of Sept. 9.

Catholic Health’s St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson hosted a ceremonial ribbon cutting for its Emergency Department (ED) expansion on Aug. 14. The event was attended by Catholic Health executive leadership, hospital staff, as well as local elected officials and community partners. The newly renovated and expanded emergency department officially opened to patients on Aug. 19.

The $10 million project, was partially funded with a $4.2 million grant from the New York State Facility Transformation program, as well as other funds supported by Catholic Health and philanthropic support. The ED expansion includes an additional 4,000 square feet, doubling the size, with 10 more treatment bays and a larger waiting room.

“St. Charles’ ED expansion will provide an opportunity to better manage patient flow and address the disparate needs of patients seeking emergency care, allowing for the overall higher quality of patient care,” said St. Charles Hospital President James O’Connor. “We are very excited for this major facility improvement, allowing us to continue to meet the emergent medical needs of the communities we serve.”

In addition, the renovations include additional space, which will allow for better patient management of those seeking medically supervised chemical dependency withdrawal and stabilization and rehabilitation services.

“Long Island has a drug problem of epic proportions, but Catholic Health does not run from this challenge,” said Catholic Health President and CEO Patrick O’Shaughnessy, DO, MBA. “St. Charles’ expanded ED will include an additional care environment, offering specialized care for dependency patients. This will allow doctors and nurses to focus on the needs of distinct patient populations, safely and effectively.”

 Whole Foods Market opened its new 43,916-square-foot store, located at 350 Walt Whitman Road, Huntington Station in the Huntington Shopping Center, on July 17. The 7th location on Long Island, the store’s product assortment features more than 2,000 local items from the Northeast.

“We are thrilled to open this Huntington Station store with a fantastic assortment of products from local and emerging brands in the Northeast, with many from right here in New York,” said John Lawson, Forager for Local & Emerging Brands at Whole Foods Market. 

“From local suppliers new to Whole Foods Market, like L’Isolina Pasta, La Rossi Pizza and Don Carvajal Coffee, to longtime customer favorites like Oliver’s Organic Eggs, Adirondack Ice Cream, MyBacon and Annie’s Ginger Elixir, each product was thoughtfully sourced to provide something for everyone,” Lawson added.

During the opening morning festivities, customers enjoyed cold brew coffee from Sail Away Coffee Co., muffins from Abe’s and Koyo Berries from Oishii. The first 300 customers in line received a limited-edition Huntington Station tote bag and a Secret Saver coupon featuring offers up to $100 off.

Additionally on opening morning, Whole Foods Market donated a Nourishing Our Neighborhoods van to We All We Got, Inc., along with $3,000 in products. The Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program, which launched in 2020, aims to enhance the operational capabilities of local food rescue organizations, enabling efficient transport of food from surplus locations to areas with the greatest need.

Founded in 1980, Austin-based Whole Foods Market is part of Amazon’s Worldwide Grocery Stores and serves customers in more than 530 stores across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. 

Other locations on Long Island include Lake Grove, Commack, Garden City, Manhasset, Massapequa Park and Jericho.

Museum Palette Café

The Heckscher Museum of Art, 2 Prime Ave., Huntington invites the community to a ribbon cutting and grand opening of its Museum Palette Café on Friday, Aug. 2 at noon. 

The event, which will be attended by Suffolk County Legislator Stephanie Bontempi, Assemblyman Keith P. Brown,  TOH Cultural Affairs Greg Wagner, and Marc Perez, president of Bank of America Long Island, will be followed by live music and free art activities for families through 2 p.m.

Enjoy tasty bites and a beautiful view of Heckscher Park in this new outdoor space on the Museum’s terrace from Off the Bone, the first of in a rotating roster of local food trucks. The café includes seating for up to thirty-six people. Food trucks will provide delicacies for guests each Friday between noon and 5 p.m. through Sept. 27. A diverse range of cuisines curated by Black, Indigenous, and female chef owners of color will be featured. Seating on the terrace will be accessible year-round and includes wheelchair accessible/ADA approved tables.

The café has been made possible thanks to a $100,000 grant through the Suffolk County JumpStart program and the support of Former County Executive Steve Bellone, Suffolk County Legislator Stephanie Bontempi, and Huntington Supervisor Ed Smyth.

Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on June 27 for a new retail store, The Wellness Stop, at 146 East Main Street in Port Jefferson. The event was attended by members of the chamber, staff, family and friends.

According to thier mission statement, the shop offers “curated products that will promote optimal lifestyles for your mind, body and soul.” The large variety of items include candles, bath products, pet products, books, totes and eco-friendly items like moss birdhouses that are safe, effective and made with the highest quality ingredients. 

Hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Mondays and Tuesdays. For more information, call 631-377-5770.

On May 3, Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner (holding scissors) joined in celebrating the grand opening of Paws in Puddles, a small, family owned and operated self-service dog wash and grooming salon located at 1844E Route 112 in Coram with a ribbon cutting.

The new business, owned and operated by Eduardo Fernandez (center left) and his wife, Christine Fernandez (center right), is equipped with multiple tubs for self-service dog washing, or you can entrust your pet with the “Paws in Puddles” staff to wash for you. If you are interested in their staff grooming services, bring in your dog ahead of time for a fair and accurate quote in person.

On Saturday, April 20, Brookhaven  Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico, community members and local firefighters were in Sound Beach to celebrate the the grand opening of the new Firehouse Restaurant and Bar with a ribbon cutting .

Formerly The Hartlin Inn, the restaurant, located at 30 New York Avenue, is a tribute to fallen New York City Firefighter Joey DiBernardo, who died in 2011 from injuries sustained during a 2005 fire in the Bronx.

On April 5, Town of Brookhaven Councilwoman Jane Bonner (center) celebrated the grand opening of Hairology, located in the Crossroads Plaza West, 53 Route 25A in Rocky Point. The new hair salon offers personal service in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Elaine’s Restaurant and Bar, 316 Main Street in East Setauket celebrated their grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 4. 

The event was attended by Brookhaven Town Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich, members of the Three Village Chamber of Commerce, Laurie Vetere from Suffolk County Legislator Steve Englebright’s office, friends and family who wished owners Elaine and Enzo Micali the best of luck in their new venture.
