Update: The pedestrian has been identified as Carlton Hamilton, 63, of Medford.

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating and hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Medford on May 25.

A man was crossing County Road 101, at the intersection of Southaven Avenue, when he was struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes at approximately 8:35 p.m. The vehicle continued northbound without stopping. A second vehicle also hit the man, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854- 8542 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

A man allegedly stole a wallet containing cash and credit cards in the Michaels/NYS Department of Motor Vehicles shopping center, 2799 Route 112 on May 15 at approximately 10:40 a.m.

A man allegedly stole a Craftsman lawn mower, valued at approximately $370, from Lowe’s, located at 2796 Route 112, on May 30 at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a shooting that seriously injured a Wyandanch man in Islandia on May 31.

A 38-year-old man was in the parking lot of Jake’s 58 Casino Hotel, located at 3635 Express Drive North, when he was approached by a person and shot twice. The shooter fled the scene. The victim entered the casino, where 911 was called at 10:18 p.m. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a man
in Calverton on May 31.

A 2023 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Scott Mancuso, attempted to make a left turn from the eastbound Long Island Expressway exit ramp at exit 71 to northbound Edwards Avenue when it was struck by a southbound 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Darnell Chandler, at approximately 7:05 a.m.

Mancuso, 48, of Ridge was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Chandler, 24, of Calverton, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852- 8752.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a single vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Smithtown on May 31.

Fourth Precinct officers responded to East Main Street, approximately 100 feet west of Terry Road, at
3:47 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a motorcycle crash. Detectives determined Corey Fitzpatrick was
traveling eastbound on a 1999 Harley-Davidson when he lost control of the motorcycle, which left the
roadway and struck a curb, a sign, and a fire hydrant before crashing into a fence.

Fitzpatrick, 29, of Farmingville, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the
Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Fourth Squad detectives at 631-854-8452.

Suffolk County Police arrested two people on May 30 for selling cannabis products and possessing illegal
weapons.

As part of the department’s “Operation Smoke Out,” Fourth Precinct Crime Section officers conducted compliance checks at six locations in the Town of Smithtown during which an employee at one store allegedly sold cannabis products to an undercover officer.

The following people were arrested:

• Sudip Bhatta, 36, of Hicksville, an employee of Red Mountain Smoke Shop was charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree and Unlawful Sale of Cannabis.

• Resham Chand, 34, of Deer Park, an employee of Red Mountain Smoke Shop was charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree.

Officers recovered 17 weapons from Red Mountain Smoke Shop including cane swords, kung fu stars and a knuckle knife. While at the business, officers also observed a large quantity of flavored vapes and confiscated them. The Smithtown Fire Marshal issued multiple violations to the business. Bhatta and Chand were issued Field Appearance Tickets and are scheduled to be arraigned on a later date.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the men who allegedly stole from a Medford store in April.

Two men allegedly stole three bottles of wine from Pope Wine & Liquors, located at 2775 Route 112, on April 9 at approximately 5:35 p.m. The wine was valued at approximately $1,550. They fled in a gray 2011 Nissan Versa with New Jersey license plates, A12 SXR.

Update: The man who was pulled unresponsive from a West Hills pool on May 19 has been identified as
Ellery Smith, 45, of Huntington Station, and pronounced dead.

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating after a Huntington Station man was pulled unresponsive from a residential swimming pool in West Hills on May 19.

Second Precinct officers responded to a 911 call at 367 West Hills Road after a 45-year-old man and acquaintance of the homeowner was found unresponsive in the swimming pool at approximately 2 p.m. A resident of the home began CPR until first responders arrived. The man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported via ambulance to Huntington Hospital where he is in critical condition.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Riverhead Town Police detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the person or people who stole an all-terrain vehicle from a Calverton farm. A Polaris HO500 was stolen from an unlocked barn at Spur of the Moment Farms, located at 451 Edwards Ave., during the overnight hours between May 15 and May 16.
