Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a single-vehicle crash that critically
injured a teenager in Central Islip on July 1.

Jason Acosta was driving a 2010 Honda Civic northbound on Lowell Avenue, between Satinwood and East Sycamore Streets, when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the southbound lane, went off the roadway, and struck a utility pole at approximately 10:15 p.m.

Acosta, 17, of Central Islip, was airlifted via police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition. The Honda was impounded for a safety check.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.

A man and woman allegedly stole seven pairs of sunglasses from Macys, located in the Smith Haven Mall, on May 31 at 1:35 p.m. The merchandise has a combined value of $2,611.

Suffolk County Police  conducted a county wide enforcement to address community concerns pertaining to quality-of-life issues on June 30.

Crime Section officers from the First, Second, Third and Fourth Precincts addressed on-going excessive noise complaints at various locations including the Commack, Melville and Brentwood Park & Rides, Hauppauge and Heartland Industrial Parks and the Deer Park Train Station parking lots.

Officers thwarted numerous efforts to congregate and multiple traffic citations were issued. A stolen quad was recovered and impounded.

The Suffolk County Police Department will continue this enforcement throughout the summer.

Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a single-vehicle crash that seriously injured a woman in Shirley on July 1.

Gottleb Chumi was driving a 2020 Nissan Altima on eastbound Sunrise Highway at exit 58 when her vehicle struck a guardrail on the right shoulder and then overturned at approximately 5:15 a.m. Chumi, 25, of Hampton Bays, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-
8752.

Suffolk County Police today arrested an employee for allegedly selling cannabis to an underage person at a Coram business on June 29.

Following an investigation by Sixth Precinct Crime Section officers a compliance check was conducted at Koncept Smoke Shop, located at 35 Middle Country Road, and an employee of the store, Ahmad Subhan, was arrested for allegedly selling cannabis to an underage person at 1:55 p.m. Officers also seized a large quantity of cannabis and cannabis oils from the business.

Sixth Precinct Crime Section officers previously investigated employees of the smoke shop on May 23 during which an employee was charged with possession of cannabis products and selling to an underaged person.

Subhan, 18, of Coram, was charged with Unlawful Sale of Cannabis and Criminal Possession of Cannabis 3rd Degree. He was issued a Field Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.

Suffolk County Police arrested an employee on June 29 for allegedly selling vape products to an underage person in Centereach.

In response to community complaints, Sixth Precinct Crime Section officers conducted an investigation into the sale of vape and tobacco products at Puff N Pass, located at 2505 Middle County Road. An employee of the store, Ghailan Al Shubi, was arrested for allegedly selling tobacco products to an underage person at 5:18 p.m.

Al Shubi, 44, of Brooklyn, was charged with one count of Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 2nd Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of Cannabis 3rd Degree. He was issued a Field Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.

Suffolk County Police arrested a man on June 29 for allegedly driving while intoxicated after he crashed his car into a marked police vehicle in Dix Hills.

Jason Ligon was driving a 2020 Mercedes sedan westbound on the Long Island Expressway, near Exit 50, when he crashed his vehicle into the rear of a stopped police vehicle that had been responding to another call at 10:20 p.m.

The one officer in the police vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. There were no other injuries.

The SAFE-T Team (Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team) responded to the scene, determined that Ligon was intoxicated, and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated.

Ligon, 57, of Great Neck is being held at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating an incident during which a child was found unresponsive in a residential swimming pool in Nesconset on June 28.

Fourth Precinct officers responded to a 911 call reporting a 9-year-old boy who was found unresponsive
in a residential pool, located on 5th St., at 6:13 p.m. Several neighbors located the child and removed
him from the pool. They then began performing CPR until first responders arrived a short time later.
The child was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition.
