Betty Boop

MEET BETTY BOOP!

This week’s shelter pet is an eight-year-old female pit bull terrier mix named Betty Boop, currently waiting at the Smithtown Animal Shelter for a family to adopt her. Named after the iconic cartoon diva (who was originally designed as a dog), Miss Boop can’t get enough of people, and volunteers at the shelter can’t get enough of her! 

This ball of love was brought in to the shelter by a good samaritan who found her looking lost at a nearby train station. It was quickly discovered how attached she gets to everyone when she cried watching the good samaritan leave. She doesn’t like to see any of her new friends go!

Betty Boop is the perfect combination of calm, affectionate, and sweet all rolled into a 70 pound ball of love. Her eyes say it all; she oozes love and adoration for every new person she meets. While she’s great with children, she would prefer to be the only pet in her home.

Mia

MEET MIA!

This week’s shelter pet is Mia, a young female Mastiff and Lab mix who came to the shelter as a stray after being hit by a car. Fortunately, Mia’s injuries were not severe, with only a few scrapes and minor fractures in her foot. 

Mia’s former owner could no longer provide for her, post car accident. Despite being scared and injured, she began to bond with the shelter staff with her playful and affectionate personality shining through the bruises and bumps.

In her former life, Mia was an outdoor yard dog who didn’t receive much attention. The silver lining is just how grateful she is to love and be cuddled by everyone she meets. Mia would be best in a home without other pets or children.

Andy

MEET ANDY!

This week’s shelter pet is Andy, a 5-year-old male domestic shorthair who was brought to the Smithtown Animal Shelter by way of a happy accident. A resident was attempting to locate their beloved feline family member and accidentally trapped Andy. 

This mustached boy was brought into the shelter, where he received a health and well-being checkup and microchip search. He is now looking for a purrfect home with a loving family. This little guy loves to lounge around and get attention from everyone he meets. 

Andy is FIV+, and still has some scars from his time in the streets. However, this little ham has his nine lives to spend furrever with his special person.

Kobe

MEET KOBE!

This week’s shelter pet is a loving happy guy named Kobe, a three-year-old male English Bulldog and Pit mix currently waiting at the Smithtown Animal Shelter for a new family. Kobe is an adorable pup who has a face that makes you instantly fall in love with him. He’s a total goofball, and will perform to get your attention. He has lots of energy inside him, and will let it all out with lots of playtime and love to anyone he meets. He gets along great with children, but would prefer to be the only pet in the household.

Kobe unfortunately suffers from a chronic heart condition, so he requires an owner to go the extra mile. He requires daily medication and a yearly checkup with a cardiologist. He also should not be permitted to go on long walks or be out in the hot weather. Despite his heart problems, and a tough start of his life, Kobe is sweet, affectionate and extremely outgoing. He has an amazing attitude through it all.

Hokey Pokey

MEET HOKEY POKEY!

This week’s shelter pet is Hokey Pokey,  a four-month-old male domestic shorthair mix kitty. This resilient little guy was born in December with a deformed rear leg and tail. Hope for his survival was not high, as kittens born with deformities often have difficulty thriving. However, Hokey Pokey stayed strong, and he has shown what living life to the fullest means. This little fighter plays, snuggles, and behaves each day like he will not be defined by his disabilities, and who are we to argue? 

Hokey Pokey will need to have his deformed leg amputated when he is old enough, and he will likely never have control over urination/defecation behavior but his spirit and grit is absolutely unbreakable. Hokey Pokey can live with any dogs, cats, or children; he just needs a home that will give him the love and special care that he needs to live a long and happy life.

Blaze

MEET BLAZE!

This week’s shelter pet is Blaze, a seven-year-old male pit terrier at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. Blaze came to the shelter after being dumped in a county park, locked in a cage. However, he has truly begun to learn to love and trust his humans. This energetic good boy enjoys running around in the shelter’s dog park, eating treats, and when it’s hot out, splashing around in the pool! He can be a very loyal dog once he learns to trust you. 

Blaze knows his basic commands like sit, wait, give paw, and walks nicely on a leash. Blaze needs an adult-only home familiar with big breed dogs, without other pets. His ideal family will spend time giving him the love (and treats) that he deserves, understanding that he had a tough life before the shelter.

Peggy

MEET PEGGY!

This week’s shelter pet is Peggy, a six-month-old female domestic shorthair kitty currently waiting to be adopted at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. 

Peggy came to the shelter as part of the town’s trap-neuter-release program, and she instantly started looking for affection. Peggy is gentle and shy, but she loves to be loved by people! She’s great with children and would do well in a home with other cats. Peggy unfortunately has a ruptured ear drum that causes her to have a chronic stuffy nose. Her perfect home would be a quiet place where she can cuddle and play all day.

Peggy is up to date on her vaccines and has received a full workup (blood work, feline HIV and leukemia tested, physical exam, etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian. If you are interested in meeting Peggy, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in their Meet and Greet room.

Bullet

MEET BULLET!

This week’s shelter pet is Bullet,  a 1-year-old Weimaraner mix from Texas. This handsome boy loves to run around and play, is good with other dogs and walks really well on a leash. 

Bullet would do best in a home where the family is home often due to some separation anxiety issues. He’s very people friendly and loves to give hugs. Bullet is patiently waiting for his new snuggle buddy to come adopt him! He comes neutered, microchipped and is up to date on all his vaccines.

Oliver

MEET OLIVER!

This week’s shelter pet is Oliver, a 2- year-old domestic short haired cat waiting patiently at Kent Animal Shelter for his furever home. Oliver is good with everything and everyone. He loves kids and other cats, but can be a little shy when he’s first getting to know you. Come on down to the shelter and spend some time with this sweet boy.  You won’t be disappointed! 

Oliver comes neutered, microchipped and is up to date on all his vaccines.

MEET CHARLIE!

Charlie

This week’s shelter pet is Charlie, a 10-month-old lab/husky mix waiting at Kent Animal Shelter for his furever home. 

Charlie is an active dog and would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard. He would also benefit from some basic training. This sweet baby was saved from deplorable conditions down in Texas and is now ready to start the next chapter in his life!  

He comes neutered, microchipped and is up to date on all his vaccines.
