Shelter Pet of the Week

This week’s shelter pets are Batman, Joker, Penguin & Wonder Woman, six- month-old siblings up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. These kittens are shy with strangers, so they are overlooked time and again. With a little time and patience, they are sweet, playful and loving.

The quartet come spayed or neutered, microchipped and are up to date on their vaccines. If you are interested in meeting  these DC Comic Cats, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with them.

The Smithtown Animal & Adoption Shelter is located at 410 Middle Country Road, Smithtown. Shelter operating hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the weekend. For more information, please call 631-360-7575 or visit www.smithtownanimalshelter.com.

Dean

MEET DEAN!

This week’s shelter pet is Dean, a large statured cat that was found as a stray and brought to the Smithtown Animal Shelter. Estimated to be around 2 years young, he is loving and outgoing with people and other cats.  He is a complete love!

Dean does have chronic discharge from his eyes that needs to be wiped away regularly, but he enjoys the attention and never gives you a hard time about it. He is otherwise completely healthy! He comes neutered, up to date on his vaccines and microchipped.

If you are interested in meeting Dean, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with him in the Meet and Greet Room.

Mia!

MEET MIA!

This week’s shelter pet is Mia, a loving and energetic two year-old Pit/Lab Mix currently waiting at the Smithtown Animal Shelter for her furever home.

Equal parts goofy and affectionate, Mia came to the shelter as a stray after being hit by a car and fortunately sustaining only minor injuries. She loves to whip around her rope toys and chase after balls and thinks she is a lap dog and will crawl in your lap and shower you with kisses.

Mia was a yard dog, so she is protective of her space when it comes to strangers, and she will require a home that can properly introduce her to new people. Once she meets a new friend, she loves them unconditionally. Mia would be best as the only pet in the home. She comes spayed, up to date on her vaccines and microchipped.

If you are interested in meeting Mia, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in a domestic setting, which includes a Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs, and a Dog Walk trail. Family Pet Meet and Greets and at home interactions are also welcome and an integral part of the adoption process.

Cali

MEET CALI!

This week’s shelter pet is Cali, a very affectionate 12 to 14-year-old female Cattle Dog mix. Cali and her siblings lost their home when their dad passed away.

Cali would prefer to spend her golden years showered with love and affection. She needs a home with no children and she does not mind calm dogs. As she is losing her hearing due to chronic ear infections and has severe arthritis, this angel needs a home that can help her navigate these challenges.

She comes spayed, microchipped and is up to date on her vaccines.

If you are interested in meeting Cali, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her.

Cookie

MEET COOKIE!

This week’s shelter pet is Cookie, a loving and happy 9-year-old pit bull mix. She adores every human she meets, can play for hours and gives the BEST snuggles.

Cookie

Cookie is very healthy and athletic. She needs a big yard where she can play fetch with her family. Sadly she has been in the shelter for over a year and doesn’t understand why she is overlooked time and time again. Do not be fooled by her age — Cookie has a young heart, mind and body and lives to please everyone she meets. She would be good with kids 8 and up, but must be the only pet in the home. She comes spayed, microchipped and is up to date on her vaccines.

If you are interested in meeting Cookie, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in the shelter’s Meet and Greet Room.

Rocky

MEET ROCKY!

This week’s shelter pet is Rocky, a 12 to 14-year-old German Shepherd mix. Rocky and his two siblings found themselves at the Smithtown Animal Shelter when their dad passed away.

While Rocky likes his siblings, he is not a fan of other animals.  Although he has significant arthritis and hearing loss, this fighter loves attention and to be around people. He comes neutered, microchipped and is up to date on his vaccines.

The staff at the shelter’s holiday wish would be to see Rocky showered with affection and to be with a family who adores him.

If you are interested in meeting Rocky, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in the shelter’s Meet and Greet Room.

Suze does have significant arthritis and a chronic skin disease. She is available for adoption or forever foster in a home that can manager her medication. She has a young and playful spirit, even if her body isn’t always up to it. She loves to be petted, to be outside exploring and FOOD! She can live with another calm dog and children ages 12 and up. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines.

Betty’s history is unknown, but this loving dog does need someone that is experienced with the breed and can manager her significant arthritis.  She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines.

If you are interested in meeting Betty, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in the shelter’s Meet and Greet Room.

Chloe

MEET CHLOE AGAIN!

This week’s shelter pet is Cool Cat Chloe, a 4-year-old domestic short hair patiently waiting at the Smithtown Animal Shelter for her happily ever after home. Chloe has been featured before in the paper and we are hoping that the second time is the charm.

This beautiful girl is gentle and calm and has lived with other cats, small children and a small dog.  Chloe was surrendered because her family could not manage her seizure disorder. She needs someone who can medicate her twice daily (she is very good for her meds) and bring her to the vet twice a year for bloodwork to check her medication levels.

Chloe is an absolute mush and she loves to be petted and brushed. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines.

If you are interested in meeting Chloe, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in the shelter’s Meet and Greet Room. Bailey

MEET BAILEY!

This week’s shelter pet is Bailey, a 5-year-old Terrier mix waiting patiently at Kent Animal Shelter for his furever home.

Rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas, Bailey is a sweet boy. He’s a little shy at first, but loves to go for walks and waits patiently for his favorite volunteer dog walker to come and take him out. Bailey loves to be outdoors! He also has a great appetite and would never pass up a treat!

Bailey would do best in a home without cats, and likes to choose his own doggie friends. He comes neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines.

Kent Animal Shelter is located at 2259 River Road in Calverton. The adoption center is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information on Bailey and other adoptable pets at Kent, call 631-727-5731 or visit www.kentanimalshelter.com
