Moonstruck Mania

Save the date! The Heckscher Museum, 2 Prime Ave., Huntington in collaboration with the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum, 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport will present Moonstruck Mania: An Art and Science Adventure on March 13 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Families with children ages 6 and up are invited to begin their adventure at the Heckscher exploring the exhibition Moonstruck:Lunar Art from the Collection and creating a lunar masterpiece. A Royal Princess Party

Owl Prowl

Winter Solstice Celebration

In celebration of the Winter Solstice, the educators at the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum, 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport will offer three children’s workshops over winter break. On Dec. 27 children in grades K through 4 are invited to visit the decorated Vanderbilt Mansion and make a lantern to light as winter days turn cold and dark. On Dec. 28 children in grades K through 4 will explore the collections, learn how wildlife adapts to less sunlight, and make a miniature glow-in-the-dark diorama. On Dec. 29 preschoolers with a caregiver will visit the wildlife dioramas and make a twinkling snow globe. All workshops are offered from 10 a.m. to noon. Fee is $20 per child/ $18 for members. Holiday break at the hatchery

Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery, 1660 Route 25A, Cold Spring Harbor presents several programs during winter break. Historic Longwood Estate, Longwood Road and Smith Road, Ridge present a special holiday program for children ages 12 and under on Dec. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Explore the grounds of the estate on a old fashioned sleigh ride, view two large train displays and enjoy roasted chestnuts and popcorn on an open fire. Ocean Creature Encounters  

The Whaling Museum. 301 Main St.. Children ages 4 to 10 and their caregivers are invited to join the Four Harbors Audubon Society for a Children’s Birding Adventure at Frank Melville Memorial Park, 1 Old Field Road, Setauket on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 1 to 2 p.m. Take part in story time, a bird walk, and a bird-inspired activity.
