Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a man in
Holtsville on July 10.

A 2018 Ford van was traveling westbound in the right lane of the Long Island Expressway, approximately a 1⁄2 mile east of Exit 61, when the van merged into the center lane and struck the rear of a 2005 Chrysler 300. The Ford van swerved into the right lane, left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire at 7:22 a.m.

The 39-year-old driver of the Ford, who is not being identified pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The driver of the Chrysler, Michelle Fiori, 58, of Shirley, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are investigating after a woman allegedly robbed a Lake Ronkonkoma bank on July 10.

A woman entered TD Bank, located at 474 Portion Road, and passed a note to a teller allegedly demanding cash at approximately 3:05 p.m. The employee complied and the suspect fled the scene on the back of a waiting motorcycle westbound on Portion Road. The woman was wearing a face mask and a motorcycle helmet.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this robbery to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852- 6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

A woman entered Chase Bank, located at 128 Main St., and passed a note to a teller demanding cash at
approximately 10:00 a.m. The teller did not comply, and the suspect fled on the back of a waiting
motorcycle eastbound on Main Street. The woman was wearing a face mask and a motorcycle helmet

Suffolk County Police arrested a teenage boy on July 8 on weapons charges after he shot himself in the hand with an illegal handgun in Huntington Station.

A staff member at Huntington Hospital notified police that a 15-year-old boy was being treated in the emergency room for a gunshot wound to his left hand at 3:18 p.m. Following an investigation by Second Squad detectives, a .22 caliber ghost gun was recovered at the teen’s residence on Foxwood Drive East and he was placed under arrest at 6:23 p.m.

The 15-year-old was charged with alleged Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Use of a Firearm 2nd Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Person Under 16 and Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree. He is scheduled to appear at Family Court in Central Islip at a later date.

Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Calverton on July 8.

Yener Can was operating a 2022 Ducati motorcycle southbound on County Road 24 when he struck a 2010 Honda CRV that was turning onto the northbound lanes from the eastbound LIE Exit 71 off ramp at approximately 7:35 p.m. Can, 39, of Medford was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The driver of the Honda, William Alberto Rodriguez-Campos, 24, of Shirley was not injured. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.

Suffolk County Police arrested a Central Islip man on July 7 for four robberies and an attempted robbery in
Suffolk County since May.

After an investigation, Major Case Unit detectives determined Andre Desvignes was responsible for robbing the following places:

• Bethpage Federal Credit Union, 233 South Research Place, Central Islip, on May 30.
• United States Postal Service, located at 136 Carleton Ave., Islip Terrace, on June 21.
• Bethpage Federal Credit Union, located at 233 South Research Place, Central Islip, on June 29.
• United States Postal Service, located at 136 Carleton Ave., Islip Terrace, on July 7.

Desvignes, 55, also attempted to rob Bethpage Federal Credit Union, located at 1350 Deer Park Ave., on July 5.
He was charged with four counts of Robbery 3rd Degree, and one count of Attempted Robbery 3rd Degree.

Update: David Forbes was located unharmed on July 9.

Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to locate an autistic man who
was reported missing on July 5.

David Forbes left his mothers house on Birchfield Court, Coram on foot on July 4, after 11:30 p.m. He was reported missing on July 5. Forbes, 38, lives in Canton Massachusetts and is white/Hispanic, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighs 175 pounds. He is bald and has brown eyes. Forbes is diabetic He was possibly in Astoria Queens at approximately 6:55 a.m. on July 6.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on Forbes’s location to call 911 or Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8643.
