Suffolk County Police arrested a former aide on Nov. 12 for allegedly fraudulently using an elderly client’s EBT card in Smithtown more than a dozen times in 2020. Shatia Parker, an aide who advertised on Care.com, used an elderly client’s EBT card to make 17 unauthorized purchases at a grocery store in Smithtown between October 2020 and December 2020.

The unauthorized transactions ranged between $37 and $193. A family member contacted police after noticing a discrepancy on receipts. Following an investigation by Fourth Precinct Crime Section, Parker, 30, of Riverhead, was arrested and charged with 17 counts of Petit Larceny. She will arraigned on a later date.

Anyone who believes they could be a victim, is asked to call Fourth Precinct Crime Section at 631- 854-8455.

A man allegedly stole $700 worth of merchandise from Old Navy, located at 2089 Smith Haven Plaza, at approximately 6:30 p.m. on September 30.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Fourth Precinct Crime Section officers are seeking to identify and locate a man who allegedly stole from a Commack store in October.

A man allegedly stole $680 worth of clothing from Target, located at 98 Veterans Memorial Highway, at 11:45 a.m. on October 30. He left the scene in a blue Toyota Camry.

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in West Hills on Nov. 6. Michael Bonsera was operating a 2017 Harley-Davidson southbound on Round Swamp Road when the motorcycle crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lanes and collided with 2016 Chevrolet Traverse being driven by Kathryn Cammarata at 1:23 p.m.

Bonsera, 48, of East Norwich, was transported via ambulance to Northwell Health Plainview Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Cammarata, 67, of Huntington, was transported to Huntington Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Fourth Precinct Crime Section officers are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the man who allegedly stole merchandise from a Commack store in July. A man allegedly stole Pokémon cards from Target, located at 98 Veterans Memorial Highway, at 6:11 p.m. on July 31. The merchandise was valued at approximately $430.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating following a partial building collapse that injured six people, three critically, in St. James on Nov. 3.

Six construction workers were on scaffolds dismantling the front façade of 840 Middle Country Road when the façade fell on them, knocking them off the scaffolding at approximately 1:30 p.m. The workers for Sit Back & Relax Ground Maintenance fell more than 20 feet. All six men were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital. One of the men was airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was notified and is investigating. The Smithtown Building Inspector and Smithtown Fire Marshal responded.

Suffolk County Police Sixth Precinct officers are investigating an incident where a candy bar received from trick or treating was found with a razor blade inside the bar.

A 13-year-old girl was trick or treating on October 31 and then traded candy with her classmates at PJ Gelinas Junior High School over the past few days. The girl found a razor blade in a mini 3 Musketeers bar ton Nov. 3 and her mother reported it to police at approximately 7:35 p.m.

Police are asking residents to make sure adults are present when children open candy they received from trick or treating, especially in Stony Brook and Setauket.

Officers are asking anyone with information to call the Sixth Precinct Crime Section at 631-854-8626, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Mt. Sinai on Nov. 2.

Vincent Rienzie was crossing Route 25A, just west of Mount Sinai-Coram Road, from north to south, when he was struck by an eastbound 2022 Subaru Forrester at approximately 11:10 p.m.

Rienzie, 32, of Miller Place, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Subaru, Thomas Tumminello, 18, of Miller Place, was not injured.

The Subaru was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
