Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the man who allegedly stole merchandise and punched an employee at a Huntington Station store in December.

A man allegedly stole merchandise from Target, located at 124 East Jericho Turnpike, on December 29 at approximately 6:30 p.m. When confronted by an employee, the suspect punched him
in the face. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Blaise Marckesano

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced on Nov. 28 that Blaise Marckesano, 38, of Shirley, was sentenced to 1 ½ to 4 ½ years in prison for Robbery in the Third Degree and other charges, after committing a string of catalytic converter thefts, commercial burglaries, and a robbery, throughout Suffolk County.

“Serial recidivists such as this defendant are the reason my office teamed up with our Suffolk County Town Supervisors to create the Quality-of-Life Town Coalition,” said District Attorney Tierney. “Quality of life crimes such as catalytic converter thefts and commercial burglaries seriously impact the safety of Suffolk County residents and businesses alike. These crimes have damaging financial effects to our hard-working residents. I hope this sentence sends the message that my office will continue to vigorously prosecute these crimes.”

According to the investigation and the defendant’s admissions during his guilty plea allocution, between December 11 and December 13, 2021, Marckesano stole six catalytic converters from recreational vehicles that were parked at W.E.S. Trailer Services in Wading River.

Catalytic converters are a part of a vehicle’s exhaust device and use precious metals in their center to reduce pollutants from a vehicle’s engine. These precious metals, which include palladium, platinum, and rhodium can be valuable and make catalytic converters a target for theft.

Marckesano was also involved in a robbery and a string of commercial burglaries in April 2023.

On April 1, 2023, Marckesano pushed a store clerk and forcibly stole beer at a Deli in Shirley. Then, between April 13 and April 25, 2023, Marckesano broke into an American Legion Post in Mastic Beach on two separate occasions and stole approximately $6,000. On April 21, 2023, Marckesano broke into a Home Depot store in Shirley and stole assorted lawn supplies valued at approximately $2,800.

On October 23, 2023, Marckesano pleaded guilty before Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Richard I. Horowitz, to the following charges:

 One count of Robbery in the Third Degree; a Class D felony;

 Three counts of Burglary in the Third Degree, a Class D felony; and

 One count of Auto Stripping in the First Degree, a Class D felony.

On November 27, 2023, Justice Horowitz sentenced Marckesano to 1 ½ to 4 ½ years in prison.

Marckesano was represented by the Suffolk County Legal Aid Society. These cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Blythe C. Miller of the Financial Crime Bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Jacob Delauter of the Major Crime Bureau.

Suffolk County Police arrested four men after they, along with a fifth man, allegedly robbed a smoke shop in Ronkonkoma on Sept. 21.
Five men entered Lucky 7 Smoke Shop, located at 404A Rosevale Ave., at approximately 12:35 a.m. One man, who was allegedly armed with a handgun, restrained the clerk, while the other four men stole merchandise and cash from the register. All five men then ran out of the store and fled towards Rosevale Avenue.

A Highway Patrol officer observed the men running from the store and getting into a gray Volkswagen Jetta, followed the vehicle, and requested backup. When the Jetta parked in a driveway on Terry Road, multiple occupants fled on foot, and the driver was arrested. Fourth Precinct Patrol units established a perimeter, and Canine and Aviation Section officers arrived at the scene. Three of the men who fled were located nearby and taken into custody.

Fourth Squad detectives charged Albert Diaz, 22, Angel Argueta, 19, Vasco Arnault, 19, and an 18- year-old male, all of Wyandanch, with Robbery 1st Degree.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8451 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Wilfredo Figueroa, 29, of Ridge, pleaded guilty to Robbery in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, after shooting a 27-year-old male in the face during a robbery.

“This defendant was so driven by greed that he brazenly shot the victim during this robbery striking him in the face, with the bullet lodging in his neck and requiring a medically induced coma. Thankfully, the victim survived this senseless and vicious attack,” said District Attorney Tierney. “Make no mistake, we will use every resource possible to find perpetrators of violence and hold them accountable for their crimes.”

According to the investigation and the defendant’s admissions during his guilty plea allocution, during the early morning hours of June 22, 2022, Figueroa shot a 27-year-old male in the face while robbing him of his personal belongings. After the robbery, Figueroa immediately fled the scene and went back to his residence. The victim was transported to a local hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was placed in a medically induced coma.

Later that day, police pulled over Figueroa for a traffic violation, and found him in possession of two illegal loaded handguns and two high-capacity magazines. Additionally, law enforcement recovered items belonging to the 27-year-old victim inside Figueroa’s vehicle, including the victim’s identification, car keys, cellphone, and several credit cards. The defendant was then placed under arrest.

After the victim awoke from his coma, a bullet fragment that was lodged in his neck was removed and given to the Suffolk County Police Department. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted a ballistics report, which concluded that the bullet fragment recovered from the victim’s neck was fired from one of the loaded handguns recovered from Figueroa’s vehicle.

On July 25, 2023, Figueroa pleaded guilty before Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable John B. Collins, to Robbery in the First Degree, a Class B violent felony and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C violent felony. He is due back in court on September 5, 2023, where he is expected to be sentenced to 15 years in prison, followed by five years of post- release supervision. Figueroa is being represented by Steve Politi, Esq.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Patrick E. Fedun of the Major Crime Bureau, with investigative assistance from Suffolk County Police Detectives Brian Whitehead and Gregory Marino of the Sixth Precinct.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating the armed robbery of a Smithtown jewelry store that occurred on Feb. 8.

A woman, wearing a face mask, was buzzed into L.I. Gold Mine, located at 135 West Main St., at approximately 5:15 p.m. The woman held the door open as four masked men, two displaying handguns, entered the store. The owner and an employee were held at gunpoint while the robbers allegedly smashed display cases and stole assorted jewelry. The five suspects drove away from the scene in a minivan, which they parked a short distance away, then split up and fled in two other vehicles. There were no injuries.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the robbery to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854- 8452 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate a woman who allegedly robbed multiple stores since December. 

A woman entered Dunkin’, located at 1780 Middle Country Road, Ridge, on December 18 at approximately 12:05 p.m. and demanded cash. An employee did not comply and the woman fled without proceeds. The same woman entered Subway, located at 895 Montauk Highway, Shirley, on December 18 at approximately 12:20 p.m., displayed a knife and demanded cash. The woman fled with cash. The suspect entered Carvel, located at 51 Route 25A, Rocky Point, on January 9 at approximately 9:10 p.m., displayed a knife and demanded cash. The suspect fled with cash. 

Detectives believe the woman also robbed Speedway, located at 1956 Route 112 in Coram, at approximately 10:50 p.m. on December 12 and displayed what appeared to be a knife.

Defendants Charged with Stealing Catalytic Converters in Rocky Point, Holbrook, and Bellport

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced on Jan. 10 the indictments of Medford residents James O’Brien, Daniel Labbe and Jason Labbe for allegedly stealing catalytic converters from trucks and vans in Rocky Point, Holbrook, and Bellport. O’Brien was also indicted on separate charges of alleged Robbery in the First Degree and Burglary in the Second Degree.

“Catalytic converter thefts have caused significant financial loss and tremendous inconvenience to the residents of Suffolk County,” said District Attorney Tierney. “These arrests are a significant step in my commitment to reduce the scourge of catalytic converter thefts by holding criminals responsible for their actions. The separate allegations that O’Brien brazenly committed crimes of robbery and burglary indicate a disturbing pattern of criminal behavior, which not be tolerated.”

James O’Brien, 45, was arraigned on January 5, 2023 before Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable John B. Collins on an indictment, including charges of Robbery in the First Degree for allegedly robbing a Yaphank gas station on November 2, 2022, while displaying what appeared to be a firearm, and Burglary in the Second Degree for allegedly burglarizing a residence in Yaphank on December 15, 2022. 2 Justice Collins set bail on that indictment in the amount of $50,000 cash, $500,000 bond, or $500,000 partially secured bond. O’Brien was also indicted on the following charges after allegedly stealing a catalytic converter from a work van in Bellport on September 5, 2022:

One count of Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree;

One count of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree;

One count of Auto Stripping in the Third Degree;

and One count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.

O’Brien was arraigned on that indictment before Justice Collins as well. Justice Collins ordered his bail set at $5,000 cash, $50,000 bond, or $50,000 partially secured bond on those charges. O’Brien is represented by Eric Besso, Esq. His next court date is February 15, 2023.

Previously, Daniel Labbe, 43, was indicted on the following charges after allegedly stealing two catalytic converters from a work truck in Rocky Point on October 22, 2022:

One count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree;

One count of Auto Stripping in the Second Degree;

One count of Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree;

One count of Possession of Burglar Tools;

and One count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree.

Daniel Labbe was arraigned on the indictment on November 10, 2022, before Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Timothy P. Mazzei, who remanded him without bail. Daniel Labbe had previously pleaded guilty to Auto Stripping in the Second Degree and Petit Larceny in a separate case and is awaiting sentence. He is represented on the new indictment by Scott Zerner, Esq. His next court date is January 13, 2023.

Additionally, Jason Labbe, 45, was indicted on the following charges after allegedly stealing a catalytic converter from a van outside a doctor’s office in Holbrook on August 24, 2021:

One count of Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree;

Two counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree;

One count of Petit Larceny;

and One count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree.

Jason Labbe was arraigned on the indictment on December 8, 2022, after being returned on a warrant. County Court Judge and Acting Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Steven A. Pilewski rejected the prosecutor’s request for bail and, rather, released Jason Labbe to the Supervised Release Program and required that he wear a GPS tracker while the case is pending. Jason Labbe has additional pending cases, including two which involve the alleged theft of catalytic converters. He is represented on this indictment by Danielle Papa, Esq. His next court date is January 17, 2023.

These precious metals, which include palladium, platinum, and rhodium can be more valuable than gold and make catalytic converters a target for theft. They can be stolen from underneath a vehicle in only a few minutes using a reciprocating saw and typically have no unique identification features, which make them difficult to trace to a lawful owner.

These cases are being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Blythe C. Miller of the Financial Crimes Bureau, and James O’Rourke of the Major Crime Bureau.

Criminal complaints and indictments are merely accusatory instruments.

Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. No one is above the law.

Just released! Suffolk County Crime Stoppers, and Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad and Seventh Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the man who robbed two businesses in December.

A man entered Nirvana Smoke Shop, located at 382 Medford Ave. in North Patchogue, struck an employee with a pistol, pushed two others to the ground and fled with cash on December 26 at approximately 9:55 p.m. Approximately 20 minutes later, the suspect entered Lucky Smoke Shop and Beer, located at 20 Floyd in Shirley, pointed a gun at employees and stole cash. The man was described as approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the word “Hurley” in blue on the front, black pants and red and black sneakers. Investigators believe the suspect may have fled in a flight-colored SUV, possibly Chevrolet Equinox or similar.

The following incidents have been reported by Suffolk County Police:

Centereach

■ Walmart on Middle Country Road in Centereach reported that a known male shoplifter allegedly stole two Splatterball toy guns valued at $192 and a Magma hoverboard worth $144.

■ CVS on Middle Country Road in Centereach reported two shoplifters on Aug. 9. A man and a woman allegedly loaded a shopping cart with Tide detergent, diapers and paper towels before fleeing the store. The items were valued at approximately $300.

■ Walmart on Middle Country Road in Centereach called the police on Aug. 12 to report that a man allegedly stole $563 worth of assorted groceries along with a Roku Express valued at $145.

Commack

■ A resident on Wheatfield Lane in Commack reported that someone broke the window of his vehicle parked in his driveway and stole a wallet on Aug. 13. On the same day a resident on the same street reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle and removed items and credit cards.

■ Scam alert! A woman loading groceries in her car in the parking lot of Costco Wholesale on Garet Place in Commack on Aug. 10 reported that she was approached by two men asking for directions and later realized her wallet had been stolen from her pocketbook.

■ Target on Veterans Memorial Highway in Commack reported a shoplifter on Aug. 8. A man allegedly stole three Razor scooters valued at $135 each.

■ Target on Veterans Memorial Highway in Commack reported that a man entered the store on Aug. 11, selected JBL earbuds, Heyday headphones and Tide Pods. He then picked out a backpack to conceal the items and allegedly walked out of the store without paying. The items were valued at approximately $240.

■ North Shore Paving on Townline Road in Commack reported that an unknown man stole a 2000 Ford F350 from the property on Aug. 12. The vehicle, valued at $12,000, had been left unlocked with the keys inside.

East Setauket

■ Walmart on Nesconset Highway in East Setauket reported two shoplifters on Aug. 11. Two women allegedly stole cleaning supplies, jewelry and clothing valued around $300.

Greenlawn

■ Greenlawn Fine Wines and Liquor on Broadway in Greenlawn reported two shoplifters on Aug. 12. A man and a woman allegedly stole five various bottles of liquor totally $854.

Hauppauge

■ A catalytic converter was stolen from a 2006 Honda Accord parked in the driveway of a residence on Helen Avenue in Hauppauge on Aug. 11. The part was valued at $800.

Lake Grove

■ Macy’s at the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove reported a petit larceny on Aug. 13. A man and a woman allegedly stole miscellaneous clothing items worth approximately $930.

Melville

■ A guest checking out of the Melville Marriot Long Island on Walt Whitman Road in Melville on Aug. 10 discovered that all four tires and rims had been stolen from his 2019 BMW X2. The vehicle was found sitting on two cobblestone blocks.

Port Jefferson Station

■ A resident on Jayne Blvd. in Port Jefferson Station reported that someone entered her vehicle on Aug. 8 and stole cash, a cellphone, license and credit cards.

■ A vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on Joline Road in Port Jefferson Station was broken into on Aug. 8. Two wallets containing driver’s licenses were stolen.

■ Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace on Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station reported that a man allegedly filled a shopping cart with $250 worth of assorted beer and fled the store without paying on Aug. 12.

Rocky Point

■ A resident on University Drive in Rocky Point reported that his car was broken into on Aug. 9. Assorted tools, karate apparel, headphones and cash were stolen.

■ Over 50 bags of used clothing were stolen from the PAL clothing donation bin in the Stop & Shop parking lot on Route 25A in Rocky Point on Aug. 2. The items were estimated to be worth $900.

■ A resident on Magnolia Drive in Rocky Point reported that someone entered his vehicle on Aug. 9 and stole power tools, hand tools and backpack.

St. James

■ Bruno’s Garage on Middle Country Road in St. James called the police on Aug. 10 to report that someone had stolen catalytic converters from two cars parked in the lot.

■ A resident on Washington Avenue in St. James reported that a catalytic converter was stolen from his 2006 Honda Accord on Aug. 10. Three men were seen exiting a silver Mercedes sedan, lifting the vehicle with a car jack and cutting the converter out before fleeing.

■ A resident on Alo Court in St. James reported that someone entered his backyard on Aug. 12 and stole a Dolphin Premier robotic pool cleaner. The equipment was valued at $800.

Selden

■ Rite Aid on Middle Country Road in Selden reported two shoplifters on Aug. 9. A man and a woman allegedly loaded a shopping cart with paper towels, diapers and baby formula valued at approximately $300 before fleeing the store.

■ Two motorcycles, a Suzuki DR200 and a KTM Duke 200, were stolen from a parking lot at Suffolk County Community College on College Road in Selden on Aug. 7. 

Setauket

■ A woman dining at Mario’s Restaurant on Route 25A in Setauket on Aug. 12 discovered that someone had removed a cellphone, wallet and phone charger from her vehicle.

Smithtown

■ A purple 2016 Dodge Charger SRT 392 was stolen from the driveway of a residence on Nissequogue River Road in Smithtown on Aug. 12. The spare keys had been left inside the vehicle which was valued at $60,000.

■ A muffler was damaged and a catalytic converter was stolen from a 2008 Honda Element  parked in the street in front of a residence on Blydenburg Avenue and a catalytic converter was reported stolen from a 2008 Honda Element parked in the driveway of a residence on Estate Road in Smithtown on Aug. 11. 

■ A resident on Brook Court in Smithtown reported that a catalytic converter was stolen from his 2005 Honda Accord and a catalytic converter was stolen from a 2002 Honda Accord parked on New Mill Road in Smithtown on Aug. 12. 

Sound Beach 

■ Catalytic converters were stolen from a 2001 Honda Accord on Mahogany Road, a 2001 Honda Accord on Rock Hall Lane and a 2002 Honda Accord on Soundway Drive in Sound Beach on Aug. 7.

■ Catalytic converters were stolen from a 2004 Acura TSX parked on Mitchell Drive and a 2005 Honda Accord parked in the driveway of a residence on Sound Beach Blvd. in Sound Beach on Aug. 8. 

Stony Brook

■ A resident on Sanford Lane in Stony Brook reported that someone entered his unlocked car on Aug. 9 and stole a wallet from the center console.

■ A 2021 Toyota Corolla was reported stolen from the driveway of a residence on Sheppard Lane in Stony Brook on Aug. 8. The owner was not sure if the car, which was valued at $15,000, had been locked.

Centereach

■ Rainbow Shops on Middle Country Road in Centereach reported a shoplifter on July 15. A woman allegedly hid five items of clothing and accessories in a black backpack and fled the store. The merchandise was valued at $128.

Commack

■ Walmart on Crooked Hill Road in Commack reported a shoplifter on July 14. A man allegedly stole assorted items of clothing valued at $73.

■ Scam alert! A woman loading items into her car in the Costco parking lot on Garet Place in Commack on July 14 reported that she was approached by two women asking for directions and later realized that her credit cards were missing from her pocketbook which had been placed on the driver’s side seat. Two similar situations were reported on July 16 in the same parking lot.

■ Ulta Beauty on Veterans Memorial Highway in Commack called the police on July 14 to report that a man and woman entered the store and allegedly stole assorted perfumes valued at $3472.

■ Walmart on Crooked Hill Road in Commack reported a petit larceny on July 15. Two women allegedly stole food, clothing and electronics worth $166.

East Northport

■ A petit larceny was reported at Stop & Shop on Fort Salonga Road in East Northport on July 17. A man and a woman allegedly filled up their shopping cart with assorted food items valued at $544 and walked out.

East Setauket

■ Dunkin’ Donuts on Nesconset Highway in East Setauket reported a burglary on July 16. An unknown man entered the establishment by breaking the drive-thru window and stole two cash registers.

Huntington Station

■ Bloomingdales on Walt Whitman Road in Huntington Station called the police on July 14 to report that a man and a woman allegedly stole handbags valued at $10,110. 

■ A 2011 blue Mercedes GLX SUV was stolen from a residence on Caldwell Street in Huntington Station on July 16. The vehicle was valued at $7,000.

■ Sunglass Hut at Macy’s on Walt Whitman Road in Huntington Station reported that a man entered the store on July 14 and allegedly stole sunglasses valued at $1,837.

■ A 2012 blue Honda Civic was reported stolen from a residence on Maplewood Road in Huntington Station on July 15. The vehicle was valued at $5,000.

Lake Grove

■ Macy’s at the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove reported a petit larceny on July 14. Two men allegedly stole miscellaneous Ralph Lauren clothing valued at $773.

■ Two women allegedly stole multiple pairs of ripped jeans from the American Eagle at the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove on July 15. The merchandise was valued at $950.

Melville

■ Sephora on Walt Whitman Road in Melville reported a petit larceny on July 12. A person allegedly stole five assorted perfumes valued at approximately $700. 

■ A burglary was reported at Evolve Smoke Shop on Walt Whitman Road in Melville on July 17. An unknown man entered the store by breaking the rear glass door and stole boxes of Kratom Shots energy drinks and assorted lighters valued over $7,000 and cash.

■ *Latest scam* A woman shopping at Costco on Broadhollow Road in Melville on July 16 reported that her pocketbook containing cash and credit cards was stolen from the driver’s seat of her car by an unknown man while she was distracted by two women asking for directions. 

Miller Place

■ The Bigger Bagel on Route 25A in Miller Place was burglarized on July 16. Unknown suspects threw a brick through the front glass door to gain entry and stole a register containing cash.

Selden

■ CVS on Middle Country Road in Selden reported a shoplifter on July 13. A woman allegedly stole health and beauty products valued at approximately $500.
