Three Village Community Trust’s Friends of the Greenway will host its monthly cleanup of the Greenway Trail on Saturday, July 20 starting at a new time of 8:30 a.m. in the Port Jefferson Station trailhead parking lot off Route 112 next to Port Jeff Bowl.  Come help keep our community gem clean for the summer. A time honored tradition for Memorial Day, Long Island National Cemetery, 2040 Wellwood Ave., Farmingdale seeks volunteers to place American flags on veteran’s graves on May 25 at 8 a.m. and to return to the cemetery on June 1 at 8 a.m. to remove the flags. No registration required. For more info, call 631-454-4949.

Volunteers are also needed to place flags at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton BLvd., Calverton on May 25 at 9:30 a.m. and to pick up the flags on June 1 at 9:30 a.m. and roll them up in bundles of 20 so they can be put into storage for the following year. The Smithtown Historical Society, 239 E. Main St., Smithtown is looking for committed, long-term volunteers to join them in preserving local history. Opportunities are available for children’s programming, beautification/decorating, buildings and groundskeeping, special events and more. Call 631-265-6768 if interested.

Calling all green thumbs! The Grow to Give Garden is in full swing at the Smithtown Historical Society, but they need more help! Thanks to some funds from a grant, they have a bunch more seedlings to get in the ground, and plenty of other work to keep everyone busy as well. Come down Monday night, July 9th, starting at 5:30 p.m. to lend a hand. Any time you can give is appreciated, and no experience is necessary. They will supply all the needed tools. Enter through entrance at 239 Middle Country Rd – the garden is directly behind the Cottage house. Call the office with any questions. 631-265-6768.
