Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the man who allegedly stole a wallet from a Huntington Station restaurant in August.

A man allegedly stole a wallet containing credit cards from another patron at The Bryant, located at 100 Walt Whitman Road, on August 23 at approximately 8:05 p.m.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Second Precinct Crime Section officers are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate three men who allegedly vandalized a vehicle in September.

Three males allegedly broke the windshield and a window on a work truck for Everything Bagel, located at 217 Commack Road, at 2 a.m. on September 28. They fled the scene in an older model Nissan, possibly an Altima or Maxima.

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a
pedestrian in Bellport on Oct. 7.

Elmer Mendoza was crossing Montauk Highway on foot from north to south, between Doane Avenue
and Michigan Avenue, when he was struck by an eastbound 2013 Ford F-150 Raptor at approximately
6:55 p.m.

Mendoza, 36, of Medford, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, Matthew Kerins,
59, of Brookhaven, was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the
crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Bohemia on Oct. 7.

Brandon Schwartz was riding a 2019 Honda motorcycle westbound in the middle lane of Sunrise Highway, west of Lakeland Avenue, when his motorcycle struck the rear of a 2021 Freightliner box truck at approximately 5:40 a.m.

Schwartz, 31, of Bay Shore, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the box truck, Luis Lopez Garcia, 23, of Riverhead, was not injured.

The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check. The box truck was inspected at the scene by the Motor Carrier Safety Section. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.

A woman stole approximately $400 worth of cosmetics from Target, located at 2975 Horseblock Road, on September 30 at approximately noon. She fled in a white SUV.

Suffolk County Police arrested a Moriches woman on Oct. 4 for allegedly driving with 40 license suspensions in Patchogue.

Ashley Burgos was driving a 2012 Kia Optima westbound on Sunrise Highway, at Phyllis Drive, when an officer observed a fraudulent Georgia license plate and dark tinted windows and initiated a traffic stop at approximately 5:10 p.m. A check of Burgos’ license revealed 40 license suspensions on eight different dates.

The Kia Optima was impounded.

Burgos, 38, was charged with alleged Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 2nd Degree, a misdemeanor, and several traffic summonses. She was released on a Desk Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.

A woman driving her car in Port Jefferson Station accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake and crashed her vehicle into Bethpage Federal Credit Union, located at 4900 Nesconset Highway, on October 2 at 11:57 a.m., according to Suffolk County Police.

The Terryville Fire Department responded to the scene and posted photos of the incident on their social media page.

A female employee was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was not injured.

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating a house fire that killed a man in Commack on Oct. 3.

Second Precinct officers responded to 44 Spinner Lane at 6:44 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a fire at the location. A Second Precinct patrol officer arrived on scene and entered the house where Jean Laurent was still upstairs. The officer was unable to remove Laurent from the residence.

Laurent, 40, a resident of the home, was later found and pronounced dead on the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Four other occupants of the home were in the house at the time the fire started.

Bertha Glaude, 67, Laurent’s mother, was able to exit the upstairs apartment prior to police arrival. Three downstairs residents, Bruce Alber, 58, Bruce Alber II, 40, and Nicholas Alber, 34, also exited the house prior to police arrival. Glaude and Nicholas Alber were both taken to area hospitals for treatment of smoke inhalation. The Second Precinct officer was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for evaluation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
