MEET BETTY BOOP!

Break out the tissue box because we are determined to change Betty Boop’s fate. This couch hippo (approximately twelve year-young Female pibble mix) has spent FIVE years at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and deserves to wake up one day snuggled up next to YOU! She is a low-key, affectionate, wiggle monster, who aside from snoring and passing gas at will, just wants a couch, Netflix marathons and a human to call her person.

Betty loves to dip her feet in the kiddie pools and fancies herself a magician…  She can turn stuffed animals into snow. If you give her a treat and a belly rub, she’ll be your friend for life. Seriously… this velcro couch seal will cling on to human connection at first boop. Betty suffers from significant arthritis in her hips and knees and will need a home that can manage daily medications. Betty Boop would be best suited as the only pet in a mellow adult-only home. Easter is this weekend and all Betty Boop is wishing for from the Easter Bunny is for one very special someone to step up to either adopt or “Forever Foster” her. Will you be her miracle?

If you have no other pets or young children at home, and are looking for a way to serve your community, please consider signing up to be a foster. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens, and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for extended periods of time. The shelter provides: food, litter, litter box, large crate, bedding, all veterinary care and medicine for foster animals, foster training and plenty of continuing support to foster parent volunteers.

These five-month-old Labrador mixes recently arrived at Little Shelter in Huntington via the Passage to Freedom Program and are quickly acclimating to New York life on their road to adoption. Eager about the prospect of finding their forever homes, they can hardly contain their excitement, as evidenced by enthusiastic wiggles and wagging tails! Gentle, sweet-spirited, and slightly goofy, it’s easy to see why Labradors are Americans favorite breed. A beautiful balance of smooth and spicy, this five-month-old Shepherd mix is Chai, currently up for adoption at Little Shelter in Huntington. Meet Betty Boop

Betty has been waiting at the Smithtown Animal Shelter for her knight in shining armor for a very long time. A low key and loving 10-12 year old spayed female pit bull mix, Betty suffers from significant arthritis of the hips and knees and will need a home that can manager her medications. She is available for adoption or Forever Foster. Betty loves all people, but must be the only pet in an adult only home. She will roll over for belly rubs from absolutely anyone and loves food and snuggles! She also likes to dip her feet in the kiddie pools and shred dog toys. Betty hates to be away from people and would love to be by your side all day long, though she deals with her alone time well. Snuggle up with Betty and be lulled to sleep by her adorable snore. Dandelion, a three-year-old Boxer mix, was recently rescued from a shelter in Texas and is now safe at Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton. A bundle of sunshine, she LOVES to snuggle, get ear rubs, go for walks, play with other dogs, chew on her toys, and meet new people! She is affectionate, outgoing, smart, eager to please, energetic, and would make a wonderful family dog! MEET BETTY BOOP!

Betty Boop is a nine to ten year-old Female Pit Bull Terrier Mix at the Smithtown Animal Shelter who is a total sweetheart! She is a very calm and low-key couch potato who absolutely loves people and attaches to them very easily. She would love nothing more than to spend her golden years snuggled up with her favorite person, lulling them to sleep with her adorable snore. Betty has significant arthritis in her hips and knees, and will need a home that can help her manage this issue by giving her medications twice a day. Her ideal home will be an adult-only home without any other dogs or cats.

If you are interested in meeting Betty Boop, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in a domestic setting, which includes the shelter’s Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs, and Dog Walk trail. Family Pet Meet and Greets and at home interactions are also welcome and an integral part of the adoption process.

Thinking About Adoption:

The Smithtown Animal Shelter’s primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to us. The Animal Control Officers and Kennel Attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another.

Residents who have other pets can arrange to bring your four-legged family member to the shelter or set up an at home meet & greet to see how your prospective family member does with other family, pets and the household itself. Please allow yourself an hour minimum to meet with your potential new family member.

Hours at the Smithtown Animal Shelter are currently Monday – Saturday 10AM – 3PM. (Sundays and Wednesday evenings: by appointment only).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the shelter is open to the public, however, they continue to practice social distancing in their facility and indoor mask guidelines. To inquire about the Pet of the Week or to meet your potential soulmate, please call the Smithtown Animal Shelter at 631-360-7575.

Betty Boop

MEET BETTY BOOP!

This week’s shelter pet is an eight-year-old female pit bull terrier mix named Betty Boop, currently waiting at the Smithtown Animal Shelter for a family to adopt her. Named after the iconic cartoon diva (who was originally designed as a dog), Miss Boop can’t get enough of people, and volunteers at the shelter can’t get enough of her! 

This ball of love was brought in to the shelter by a good samaritan who found her looking lost at a nearby train station. It was quickly discovered how attached she gets to everyone when she cried watching the good samaritan leave. She doesn’t like to see any of her new friends go!

Betty Boop is the perfect combination of calm, affectionate, and sweet all rolled into a 70 pound ball of love. Her eyes say it all; she oozes love and adoration for every new person she meets. While she’s great with children, she would prefer to be the only pet in her home.
