Stony Brook held William & Mary scoreless and cruised to a 4-0 shutout victory on Oct. 1 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium to hand the Tribe their first loss of the season.

The Seawolves and Tribe were trading shots back and forth early, as Nicolette Pasquarella made two crucial saves in the 16th and 35th minute to keep William & Mary off the scoreboard. Stony Brook then grabbed a 1-0 lead when Graceann Murphy used her fancy footwork to score her second goal of the season in the 39th minute, assisted by Luciana Setteducate.

Right before the break, the Seawolves grabbed a 2-0 advantage on a penalty-kick goal from Reilly Rich — her sixth goal of the season — in the 45th minute. The squad was in total control of the match in the second half by tallying two more goals and just allowing three shots by the Tribe.

Stony Brook went up 3-0 following Gabrielle Côté’s fourth goal of the season, a 75th-minute tally that was assisted by Murphy.

The Seawolves would go ahead 4-0 with an 84th-minute goal from Sammy Hannwacker, her first goal of the season, to secure the victory over the unbeaten William & Mary women’s soccer team. The victory boosted Stony Brook’s record to 4-4-4 overall and 2-3-2 in CAA play.

The team will return to the pitch on Oct 5 when they head to Wilmington to battle UNCW.

The Stony Brook women’s soccer team earned their first CAA victory of the season on Sept. 10 after defeating Hampton University, 6-1.

The Seawolves wasted no time putting the pressure on the Lady Pirates defense as the squad tallied two goals in the first 16 minutes. Ashley Manor captured the first goal of the night for Stony Brook in the 10th minute, followed by a penalty-kick goal by Reilly Rich in the 16th minute to give the squad an early 2-0 advantage.

Stony Brook was in control of the possession for most of the first half by tallying 12 shots in the frame compared to the four by Hampton. However, the Lady Pirates would cut the lead to 2-1 heading into the break following a goal in the 41st minute.

Similarly to the beginning of the match, Stony Brook came out storming again by scoring a goal in the first 30 seconds and then followed with another score 10 minutes later. Linn Beck made the most of a pass from Allie Palangi to score in the 45th minute and Gabby Daniels scored her first goal of the season in the 54th minute to allow Stony Brook to take a 4-1 advantage.

This is all the Stony Brook offense would need in the second half. Nicolette Pasquarella was stellar in net in the final 45 minutes by not allowing a goal on the four shots she faced.

The offense for the Seawolves would tally two more goals in the 61st and 88th minute after Rich captured another penalty-kick goal and Hannah Maracina scoring her first goal of the season to conclude the 6-1 victory, respectively.

“I’m very proud of our team and our coaching staff for their performance today. It was a quick turnaround after Thursday’s game traveling to Hampton but we accomplished our goal and are very pleased with bringing 3 points back to Stony Brook,” said head coach Tobias Bischof.

After the Stony Brook women’s soccer team won their first game of the season defeating Lafayette College (2-1, 0-0 Patriot League) 3-1 on Aug. 24 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium, they secured their second consecutive victory and first win on the road this season after defeating Merrimack College 2-1, at Matone-Mejail field in North Andover, Mass on Aug. 27.

After nearly 18 minutes of scoreless soccer, sophomore Gabrielle Côté shined bright for the Seawolves again after scoring the first goal of the game by making the most of a ball sent into the box that the Canadian used her fancy-footwork to put into the back of the net.

Heading into the break, the Seawolves and Warriors were all tied up at 1-1. However, the Stony Brook offense was in control for most of the first half as they tallied six shots on goal, compared to the three shots on goal by the Warriors.

Making her first appearance of the season in net was Ava King and the sophomore did not disappoint. She tallied three saves in the second half, including a game-saving play at the 60th minute for her first save of the season that kept the match tied. The squad would break the draw in the 76th minute after sophomore Ashley Manor tallied her first goal of the season by launching a shot from nearly 35 yards away into the top of the net to give Stony Brook the lead and ultimately the 2-1 victory. This was th first-ever victory over Merrimack in program history.

“I’m proud of the team and the grit that we showed to get a result today. Away games are never easy. We had some good phases in the game and some phases we need to improve. Overall, I’m happy with the two wins this week,” said women’s soccer head coach Tobias Bischof.

The team is back on the road on Aug. 31 as they make the short trip to the Bronx to battle Fordham University at 6 p.m. The Seawolves will look to continue their recent success against the Rams after winning their previous three meetings and owning a 5-3-1 overall record against Fordham. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.

It was a day of celebration at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium as the Stony Brook women’s soccer team was able to send off its senior class with a thrilling, 3-2, win over UNC Wilmington on senior day, Oct. 16. The Seawolves were paced by a trio of goal scorers with freshman midfielder Linn Beck producing the game-winner in the 60th minute en route to victory.

It didn’t take Stony Brook long to get on the scoreboard as freshman forward Luciana Setteducate found the back of the net in the 12th minute. The freshman gathered a ball mid-air that deflected off the head of a UNC Wilmington defender and ripped a shot past the Seahawks’ keeper to give the Seawolves an early 1-0 lead.

Stony Brook added on in the 20th minute when freshman midfielder Ashley Manor sent a corner kick into the box that sophomore midfielder Gabby Daniels headed to graduate defender Morayo Adenegan who chipped it in to increase the Seawolves’ advantage to 2-0.

The Seahawks jumped on the board early in the second half as Madison Henry scored a goal in the 46th minute to cut Stony Brook’s lead to 2-1. The Seawolves responded in the 60th minute as Beck sent one into the back of the net off a feed from Setteducate and freshman forward Gabrielle Côté. Beck’s tally proved to be the game-winner.

UNC Wilmington added its second goal of the contest in the 62nd minute when Kayla Burroughs capitalized on a loose ball inside the box. Stony Brook’s defense, anchored by sophomore goalkeeper Nicolette Pasquarella was able to stand strong as they held on to win by the final score of 3-2.

Prior to the game, the Seawolves honored their senior class which is comprised of Adenegan, Emerson Richmond Burke, Rachael Peters, Catharina von Drigalski, Leah Feato, and Madison Sleiman.

“It was definitely a better performance than on Thursday. We came out with a lot of energy on a special day honoring our seniors – it is always an emotional and special day. I thought that they did a good job today,” said head coach Tobias Bischof.

The team concludes the regular season on Oct. 23, when it heads to Hempstead to take on Hofstra at 1 p.m.

The Stony Brook women’s soccer team had a record-setting day en route to a 12-0 victory over CAA foe Hampton on Sept. 25. Nine different players found the back of the net, with three student-athletes scoring their first career goals.

Ashley Manor scored first and sparked Stony Brook’s offense in the 15th minute as the Seawolves put forth a record breaking performance, shattering the 29-year-old record of most goals in a game. The previous record came against Iona in 1993 when the Seawolves scored nine goals.

Catharina von Drigalski recorded a career-high in assists, tallying four in the win. She tied the program record for assists in a game which was set by Louise Anderson in 1986. von Drigalski also added a goal in the 64th minute.

The Seawolves offense poured in eight goals in the second half, breaking another record. The previous being six goals in a half on three separate occasions, in 1986, 1993, and 2013.

Stony Brook’s 12-0 victory broke a 33-year-old record for largest margin of victory, surpassing the 8-0 win against West Virginia Wesleyan in 1989.

The Seawolves’ 12 goals and 11 assists totaled 35 points, breaking the program record for points in a game. The former being against St. John’s in 1986 when the Seawolves collected 25 points. Stony Brook tallied 22 points in the second half of the game which set a new program record for most points in a half.

“Today was a professional performance. We had the chance to play every available player and saw some first career goals. I was impressed with our ability to move the ball and create scoring opportunities,” said head coach Tobias Bischof.

Chelsie DePonte (12) had a goal and an assist in the season opener at Hofstra.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — The Stony Brook women’s soccer team returned to game action for the first time in 464 days on Feb. 21. Unfortunately for the Seawolves, they fell to No. 23 Hofstra, 4-3, in the Battle of Long Island.

Alyssa Francese and Chelsie DePonte each scored to give Stony Brook leads, but the Pride answered with three goals in a 9-minute, 25-second stretch of the second half to take a two-goal lead.

Francese had earned a spot on the initial MAC Hermann Trophy watch list last month. And she began to back up the hype on Sunday.

Francese, a graduate student from Yorktown Heights, scored in the 15th minute and the Seawolves grabbed an early 1-0 lead.

Francese’s 31st career goal moved her into a tie with Noreen Heiligenstadt (1985-88) for fourth on the program’s all-time goals list.

After a disputed equalizer before in the final minute before halftime, DePonte scored in the 50th minute to give Stony Brook a 2-1 lead. She had a goal and an assist.

On the opening goal, DePonte made a 20-yard run and dished down the middle to Francese, who finished with her left foot underneath the goalkeeper.

Mari Brenden scored on a penalty kick in the 81st minute to pull Stony Brook within 4-3. It marked Brenden’s first game action and goal since her freshman season in 2018.

The Seawolves were playing their first match since an NCAA Tournament appearance at Penn State on Nov. 15, 2019.

Stony Brook began the post-Sofia Manner era at goalkeeper as Emerson Richmond Burke made her collegiate debut.

Right back Rachael Peters made her first collegiate start, while Rutgers transfer Alicia D’Aoust made her Stony Brook debut and Kerry Pearson and Emma Beattie made their collegiate debuts.

The game marked second-year Stony Brook head coach Tobias Bischof‘s first return to Hofstra since switching sides in the Long Island rivalry. Bischof previously served as a Hofstra assistant for eight seasons.

The Seawolves return to action March 3 at UMass.

“We had a good performance against a very well-coached top-25 team,” Bischof said. “Butm in the end, we fell short. We are going to analyze our play and improve.”
