Smithtown West (5-7) had their hands full when Sachem East (11-1) came to visit in a Division I matchup where the Bulls struggled to find traction falling to the Flaming Arrows, 5-0, Oct 19. Smithtown West goalie made 10 saves on the day.
The loss all but extinguishes the Bulls from a post-season appearance with one game remaining. Smithtown West will host Pat-Med (7-5) Oct. 21 with a 4:30 start.
It was a game that began in brilliant sunshine turned to a driving rain. When the rain stopped, the wind picked up before darkness ended the contest which left Port Jefferson in a 2-2 tie with Greenport Oct. 18.
Greenport struck first when Ricky Campos scored but Port Jeff’s Daniel Owen evened the score late in the first half. Jonah Plaster was the spark in the second half when he scored the Royals go-ahead goal at the 18-minute mark for a 2-1 lead. Declan Crowley made it a new game when he scored six minutes later.
As daylight grew short the game went to a 10-minute overtime period without a decision for a 2-2 final in the league VII matchup. Port Jeff junior Jonathan Bosewell had five saves in net.
The Royals conclude their 2021 campaign Oct. 20 with a home game against Smithtown Christian. Game time is four o’clock.

Mount Sinai’s homecoming weekend celebration kicked off with a girl’s Powder Puff touch football game that pitted the seniors against the juniors in the 13th annual event Oct. 14. The event is run by the student government as a fundraiser that gives money to the senior class as well as local charities according to student government advisor, Roger Cardo.
“Each person you see here paid $3 each or $10 per family and two years ago, we didn’t have it last year, we raised over $4,000,” he said.
Two days later after the pre-game parade the Mustang’s hosted the Babylon Panthers in a Div IV matchup where the Panthers were held scoreless through three quarters of play. Senior running-back James Carretta broke the ice for the Mustangs scoring the opening touchdown off a Devin Carros pass in the opening quarter.
Running-back Michael Trepeta scored on a 31-yarder with 8:21 left in the half followed by Carretta who got the call with a minute left, grinding his way into the endzone for the score.
With Mount Sinai senior Verissimo Pedra’s foot, the Mustangs took a 21-0 lead into the halftime break. Carros on a keeper punched in on short yardage and with Pedra’s kick, who was perfect on the day, put the Mustangs out front 28-0. Babylon found the endzone midway through the 4th quarter for your final 28-7.
Carretta amassed 170 yards rushing on 17 carries and Trepeta carried 11 times for 105 yards in the victory.
The win lifts the Mustangs to 5-1 and are back in action with a road game against cross town rival Miller Place Oct. 23. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

The Centereach Cougars at 1-4 had their hands full when the Huntington Blue Devils (2-2) came to visit in a Division II matchup Oct. 15.
If the Blue Devils meant to set the early tone, they did, when senior defensive back Ryan Porzio picked off a Justin Robbert pass and went the distance for a pick six touchdown a minute into the game. Lucas Petrizzi found the endzone at the 5:01 mark and with the point after Huntington led 14-0. Senior running back Josiah Melendez off a slant pass eluded two would be Centereach tacklers, bolted to the outside and jetted 53 yards for his second touchdown to put Huntington out front 28-0 at the half. After a dormant third quarter Centereach wide receiver Riddick Drab caught a 15-yard pass from Robbert to take the goose egg off the board. Huntington delivered a one two punch midway through the fourth when Huntington senior Robbie Smith found the endzone on a 20-yard jaunt and followed by Josiah Melendez’s interception then ripped a 60-yarder for the score to take a 42-7 lead. With two minutes left senior running back Markus Figueroa punched in on a 20-yarder for the final 42-14.
The loss drops Centereach to 1-5 while the win lifts Huntington to 3-2 with two games remaining before post season play begins.
The Ward Melville boys volleyball team fought back in the second set Oct. 14 having to win by two, edging Connetquot, 27-25, but they lost the next two to drop the match, 3-1, at home.
The Patriots fell 25-21, 25-27, 25-23 and 25-17 in the Division I contest. The loss drops the Patriots to 5-5 with four games remaining before post season play.

The Wildcats just keep on winning, which is why they sit atop the league VI leaderboard at 11-1-0 fresh off their non-league 1-0 victory against Jericho, Oct. 11.
Shoreham-Wading River’s only loss this season was at the hands of Wyandanch two weeks ago. It was Justin Depaoli’s foot that made the difference when the senior midfielder stretched the net in the 2nd half on a solo shot that held up as time expired. Senior goal keep William Devall had six saves on the day for the Wildcats.

It was Ward Melville sophomore striker Rob Hauss who broke the ice with three minutes left in the opening half off an assist from Ron Palillo to put the Patriots out front, 1-0, in a League II matchup Oct. 11 on the road against Newfield.
Dominic Lollo’s foot scored the insurance goal with the help of Sean LaPeters in the second half for the final score, 2-0. Ward Melville senior Jack Jespersen made seven stops in net.
The win lifts the Patriots to 7-3-1 in their division with three games remaining before post season play begins.
Warrior Nation converged on the football field Friday night, Oct. 8, to honor one of their own.
Patrick Hueber — an elementary student in the Comsewogue School District — passed away suddenly last year and was a member of the Comsewogue Youth Football program. Patrick, who loved football, had his jersey — number 99 — retired honoring the Hueber family.
Youth Football’s Jaclyn Shannon and Chris Witt joined varsity head coach Sean Tremblay, along with the Comsewogue community, in presenting the Hueber family with Patrick’s framed jersey #99, never to be worn again.
Matt DeVincenzo Comsewogue’s Athletic Director said he was honored to be a part of the presentation to the Hueber family. The visiting Amityville players presented Mrs. Hueber with the game ball prior to kickoff.
It was Comsewogue quarterback Brady Shannon’s arm that did the talking where the senior threw three touchdown passes completing 12 of 17 attempts for 185 yards for a 21-13 Warrior win over visiting Amityville. Shannon connected with wide receiver James Kreig twice in the first half for a pair of touchdown throws and went to senior wide receiver Matt Walsh on a 19 yarder in the 3rd

The Comsewogue boys’ soccer program, both varsity and JV, put on the inaugural “Kicks for Cancer” game — a fundraising event to honor of two former players whose mothers are battling breast cancer.
The Oct. 12 event was the brainchild of seniors Dan Dein, Matthew Sparhuber, Josh Carroll and Ryan Carnaxide, according to Comsewogue boy’s booster club member Kathy Dein.
“These boys have known both moms all through growing up and decided to hold a Kicks for Cancer fundraiser to benefit the ‘Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation’ in their honor,” said Dein, who added that both the JV & Varsity have raised over $1,100 for the cause and still going.
The team all wore pink jerseys adorned the field with posters to promote the event.
“I’m tremendously proud that our boys realize that it’s more than just a game it’s bringing the community together and this is their way to give back,” Dein said.
With the game under way the Warriors evened the score late in the game when Ryan Harding to tie the game at 1-1. Despite two overtime periods both teams drew the tie keeping the Warriors atop the league IV leaderboard at 10-1-1.

It was all Kings Park in their homecoming game against Harborfields, where the Kingsmen dominated from the opening kickoff to blow out the Tornadoes, 34-7, Oct 9.
Senior quarterback Jonathan Borkowski teamed up with John Matthew for two touchdown throws a 14 yarder and a 26-yard pass and run play. Nico Laviano grounded out the yardage with a pair of touchdowns of his own a short yardage score and a 15-yard run. Kings Park’s James O’Melia punched in from short yardage in the win.
Kings Park enters their bye-week and are back in action Oct. 23 with a road game against Comsewogue at 3 p.m. The Tornadoes retake the field with a home game against Eastport South Manor Oct. 15. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
