Suffolk County Police arrested a Shirley man on March 27 for allegedly stealing from eight businesses on nine different occasions during the past 10 days.

While investigating a theft that occurred earlier in the day at Famous Footwear, located at 999 Montauk Highway in Shirley, on March 26, Seventh Precinct Investigative Unit officers observed the suspect, Anthony Anzalone, approaching the business and arrested him.

Anzalone was also identified as the man who committed eight additional larcenies in the area, including another the day prior at that Famous Footwear location.

Anzalone also stole merchandise from:

  • Handy Pantry, located at 630 Mastic Road in Mastic, on March 24.
  • Aldi, located at 855 Montauk Highway in Shirley, on March 23.
  • Walgreens, located at 863 Montauk Highway in Shirley, on March 23.
  • 7-Eleven, located at 1236 Montauk Highway in Mastic, on March 22.
  • 7-Eleven, located at 210 Mastic Beach Road in Mastic Beach, on March 22.
  • Walmart, located at 901 Boulevard East in Yaphank, on March 19.
  • Stop and Shop, located at 999 Montauk Highway in Shirley, on March 18.

Anzalone, 55, was charged with nine counts of Petit Larceny and will be arraigned at a later date.

Suffolk County Police arrested a man on March 26 for selling cannabis products at a Huntington Station store.

In response to numerous community complaints, Second Precinct Crime Section officers, in conjunction with the New York State Office of Cannabis Management Enforcement Unit, executed a search warrant at Joe Joe Convenience Store, located at 212 Depot Road, and seized Marijuana, THC Marijuana Vapes, Flavored Vape products, and money.

An employee of the store, Ahmed Fofana, 24, of New York, NY, was charged with Unlawful Sale of Cannabis, Sale of Cannabis without a License, Criminal Possession of Cannabis, and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 2nd Degree.

The business was issued violations and was closed by the New York State Office of Cannabis Management Enforcement Unit. The Town of Huntington was notified and is investigating. Fofana was issued a Desk Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the men who allegedly stole merchandise from a Medford store in December.

Two men allegedly stole LEGOs, valued at $1,199, from Target, located at 2975 Horseblock Road, on December 9 at approximately 6:20 p.m. The suspects fled the scene in a back sedan.

The man pictured above and on the right allegedly stole a Vizio sound bar and a Samsung TV, valued at $300, from Target, located at 2975 Horseblock Road, on February 20 at 4:32 p.m. He came back into the store later with different clothing.

Suffolk County Police today arrested a woman for allegedly driving while intoxicated with her 12-year-old child in the vehicle following a motor vehicle crash in Smithtown on March 25.

Kristen Vassallo was driving a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas southbound on New York Avenue, when the Volkswagen struck a vehicle parked in front of 67 New York Ave. at 8:23 p.m. The force of the impact
pushed the parked vehicle into another parked vehicle, causing damage.

Fourth Precinct officers arrived at the scene and determined Vassallo exhibited signs of intoxication.
Vassallo, 48, of Smithtown, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. There were no injuries, and the child was released to a guardian.

Vassallo will be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 26. The Volkswagen was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.

Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously
injured a woman in Yaphank on March 24.

Kenneth Zaleski was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trail Blazer westbound in the right lane of the Long
Island Expressway, near exit 67, when he attempted to move to the center lane and struck a 2012 Dodge
Ram being driven in the same direction by Tafe Philip at 12:49 p.m. The impact forced the Chevrolet
into the guardrail.

A passenger in the Chevrolet, Jamie Nietupski, 33, of East Patchogue, was transported via ambulance to
Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Zaleski, 62,
of East Patchogue was transported to the same hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Tafe, 30, of Bohemia, was not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Anyone with information on this crash is asked to
contact Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652.

Three Suffolk County Police officers helped safely deliver a baby girl in a car on the side of Sunrise
Highway in Shirley on March 24.

Seventh Precinct Officers Joseph Lacey, Brendan Nappi, and Jonathan Verity responded to a 911 call of a woman in active labor inside a Honda Accord on the shoulder of Sunrise Highway, near William Floyd Parkway, during heavy rain at 6:11 p.m.

Upon police arrival, Officers Lacey, Nappi and Officer Verity—who graduated from the Suffolk County Police Academy on Friday—assisted the 37-year-old Mastic Beach woman to deliver the healthy baby girl and wrap her in a blanket. Shirley Community Ambulance arrived shortly after and transported the healthy mother and baby to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a man in Medford on March 20.

Wilfredo Garcia was driving a Medford Fire Department truck southbound on Route 112 when the vehicle struck a 2015 Dodge Dart traveling eastbound at the intersection of Express Drive South at approximately 12:35 p.m. The fire truck had its lights and sirens activated. Garcia, 50, of Medford, and two passengers in the fire truck were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Dodge, Jason Copper, 39, of Sound Beach, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Motor Carrier Section officers conducted a safety check on the fire truck at the scene, and it was impounded. The Dodge was impounded for a safety check.
