Shortly after noon on Sunday, Smithtown Public Safety notified residents through its Twitter account and app that the TD Bank on Lake Avenue in St. James was robbed. The bank is open on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

According to the social media post, multiple Suffolk County Police Department units were on the scene.

Residents were asked to avoid the area and to report anyone suspicious in the area.

According to SCPD, a man entered the bank at 12:07 p.m. and allegedly displayed a note demanding cash. The teller complied with the man’s demands and gave him cash from the drawer. The man fled the bank on foot.

The man was described as white, in his mid to late 20s, and approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing a blue jacket, tan shorts, white sneakers and a blue cloth mask.

No arrests have been made.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this robbery to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6553 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS (8477). All calls will be kept confidential.

Suffolk County Police are investigating an alleged robbery at a Port Jefferson Station bank that happened Friday evening, Jan. 3.

Police said a man entered TD Bank, located at 86 W. Nesconset Highway at around 6:55 p.m. and demanded cash from an employee. The teller complied with the his demands and gave him cash from the drawer. The suspect fled the bank on foot.

The suspect was described as white. He was wearing a mask and dark clothes.

Police are asking anyone with information on the robbery to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Suffolk County Police are looking for a man who allegedly robbed the Miller Place Chase Bank the afternoon of Monday, Aug. 12.

Police said a man entered Chase Bank, located at 385 Route 25A, at around 2:40 p.m. and displayed a note demanding cash to an employee. The teller complied with the suspect’s demands and gave him cash from the drawer. Police said the suspect fled the bank on foot, west towards Miller Place road.

The suspect was described as a white man in his late 20s to 30s, average height, medium build, wearing dark rimmed glasses and a full dark colored beard. He was wearing a blue t-shirt, blue jeans, dark colored shoes and a summer style fedora hat.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this robbery to call Major Case at 631-852-6555. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about these incidents can contact Suffolk County Crime Stoppers to submit an anonymous tip by calling 800-220-TIPS (8477) or texting “SCPD” and your message to “CRIMES” (274637). All calls and text messages are kept confidential.

Suffolk County police arrested a man May 10 for attempting to rob a bank, and then allegedly robbing another bank.

Steven Korth, 29, of Rocky Point, walked into Chase Bank at 60 North Country Road in Port Jefferson May 10 at approximately 1:38 p.m. and allegedly presented the teller a note demanding cash, but fled without proceeds, according to police. He then entered the TD Bank at 320 Route 25A in Rocky Point at approximately 2:10 p.m., and again allegedly handed a note demanding cash to a teller. The teller complied with his demands, and Korth fled, police said.

After an investigation, police found Korth in the woods on West Street in Middle Island at approximately 2:54 p.m.

Major case detectives charged Korth with third-degree attempted robbery and third-degree robbery. Attorney information for Koth was not immediately available. He was held overnight at the 6th Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip May 11.

Suffolk County police arrested a Bohemia man Jan. 21 for allegedly robbing TD Bank in Smithtown.

John Scrofani Jr. entered TD Bank at 714 Route 347 at 10:57 a.m. Sunday and presented a note to a teller demanding cash. The teller complied and Scrofani Jr. fled. Fourth Precinct officers responded and located him in a vehicle on Route 347 at Brooksite Drive in Smithtown a short time later.

Major Case Unit detectives charged Scrofani Jr., 31, with third-degree robbery. He was  held overnight at the 4th Precinct and arraigned on Jan. 22 at First District Court in Central Islip.

Suffolk County Police arrested a Rocky Point man who allegedly robbed a bank in Port Jefferson Station.

A man entered TD Bank, located at 86 Nesconset Highway, on Jan, 19 at 6:30 p.m. and presented a note demanding cash. The teller complied with the robber’s demands and the suspect fled on foot. Numerous officers and detectives from the 6th Precinct responded and located the suspect, Robert Van Helden, a short time later at the Home Depot in Selden.

Major Case detectives charged Van Helden, 32, with third-degree robbery. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Jan. 20.

Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are investigating a robbery that occurred at a Kings Park bank Friday, April 28.

A man entered Bank of America, located at 1209 Saint Johnland Road, at approximately 11:45 a.m., displayed a note and verbally demanded cash. The teller complied and gave the suspect cash from the drawer. The robber fled on foot.

The suspect was described as white, in his late 20s, approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, a black baseball cap, jeans and sneakers.

The investigation is ongoing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the robbery to call the Major Case Unit at 631–852–6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Suffolk County Police Major Case detectives are investigating a robbery that occurred April 26 at a Centereach bank.

A man entered the Capital One Bank, located at 2100 Middle Country Road, at approximately 3:25 p.m., displayed a note and verbally demanded money. The teller complied with the suspect’s demands and gave him cash from the drawer. The suspect fled the bank on foot.

The suspect was described as a white male in his mid to late 20s, approximately 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a very thin build and a buzz cut. He was wearing a black and grey hooded-sweatshirt, black baggy pants, a black baseball cap and wool fingerless gloves.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this robbery to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

On April 21, Major Case Unit detectives arrested Raymond Peruggi and Damien Beeker for robbing the Chase Bank on 25A in Miller Place.

A man entered Chase Bank, located at 385 Route 25A, at about 5:25 p.m. April 19 and passed a note demanding cash to an employee. The teller complied with the suspect’s demands and gave him cash from the drawer.

Peruggi, homeless, and Beeker, of Ronkonkoma were also arrested for robbing the TD Bank on Route 112 in Medford on April 18.

In a similar scenario, a man entered the bank, located at 1806 Route 112, at approximately 2:50 p.m., and passed a note demanding cash to an employee.

In both cases, the suspects feld in a Mitsubishi Lancer.

“It’s a somewhat unusual vehicle,” Suffolk County Police Chief of Department Stuart Cameron said during a press conference. “Detectives canvased the area for the vehicle, and that vehicle was located at hotel in Centereach.

The men were charged with two counts of robbery in the 2nd degree.

This version was updated to show two men were arrested for robbing the Chase Bank in Miller Place. The pair were also involved in another robbery one day prior.

Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit have made an arrest in connection with one of the two robberies at TD Bank on Nesconset Highway in Port Jefferson Station which occurred in a four day span between June 30 and July 3.

Michael Dublar, 33, who is homeless, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with third-degree robbery in connection with the July 3 incident. At about 11:15 a.m., police said Dublar entered the bank and handed a teller a note demanding cash. The teller complied and Dublar fled on foot, according to police. Dublar was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and an Islip Town warrant. He was held overnight at the 6th precinct and arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.

The pattern was very similar to the incident that occurred four days earlier.

The first suspect, who police are still hoping to identify, entered the bank at about 2:15 p.m. on June 30. He is described as a white male in his 30s, is about six feet tall with a thin build, brown hair and a goatee, according to police. At the time of the incident he was wearing a long sleeve flannel shirt, blue jeans, dark colored shoes, a baseball hat and sunglasses. Police said the teller complied with the demand and the man fled southbound through the parking lot towards Broadway, east of Old Town Road.

The bank is located a few hundred feet from Christ Church United Methodist of Port Jefferson Station.

Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
