Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Medford last night.

Hasani Martin-Rathan was operating a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle northbound on North Ocean Avenue when he crashed into a southbound 2018 Ford van that was attempting to turn left onto Cedar Avenue at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Martin-Rathan, 27, of Brentwood, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The driver of the Ford, Angel Bravo-Jimenez, 24, of Medford, was not injured. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8542.

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Holtsville on June 13 at approximately 6:20 p.m.

Jared Rueb, 46, was operating a 2005 Honda motorcycle, southbound on North Ocean Avenue by Peconic Avenue, when he lost control and struck a curb at approximately 6:20 p.m. He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His motorcycle was impounded for a safety check.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Bohemia on Oct. 7.

Brandon Schwartz was riding a 2019 Honda motorcycle westbound in the middle lane of Sunrise Highway, west of Lakeland Avenue, when his motorcycle struck the rear of a 2021 Freightliner box truck at approximately 5:40 a.m.

Schwartz, 31, of Bay Shore, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the box truck, Luis Lopez Garcia, 23, of Riverhead, was not injured.

The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check. The box truck was inspected at the scene by the Motor Carrier Safety Section. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.

Suffolk County Police Second Squad Detectives are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Huntington on Aug. 5.

John Papa was operating a three-wheeled 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on Sweethollow Road, south of Jericho Turnpike, when the vehicle left the roadway and hit a tree at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Papa, 65, of Syosset, was transported to Huntington Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Islandia on March 17.

Michael Laskaris was driving a 2019 Hino box truck westbound on Veterans Memorial Highway at 7:35 a.m. when he attempted to make a U-turn at the intersection of East Suffolk Avenue in front of an eastbound 2005 Suzuki motorcycle operated by Joshua Taylor. Taylor hit the brakes and the motorcycle skidded on the
pavement causing the motorcyclist to be ejected.

Taylor, 20, of Islandia, was pronounced dead at the scene. Laskaris, 66, of Selden, was not injured. Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fourth
Squad at 631-854-8452.
