With the score tied at 42-42 with :09 seconds left in regulation Sophie Costello drove the lane for the Wildcats scoring two as she fell to the floor with :06 seconds left.

The Wildcats sank one more from the free throw line as time expired to win 45-42 in the quarter-final playoff game at home against Islip Feb. 15.

Costello led her team in scoring with 19, GraceAnn Leonard netted 12 and Mia Rosati banked 8.

The Wildcats the class A3 seed will travel to West Babylon the A2 seed for the semi-final round Feb. 18. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

Protecting a one-point lead going into the halftime break of the opening round of the Class AA playoff game against William Floyd, Smithtown West found its rhythm in the second half with their swarming defense keeping the Colonials at bay to win the Feb. 14 road-game, 46-28.

Smithtown West senior Brianna Guglielmo topped the scoring charts for the Bulls with 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Teammate Laura Luikart grabbed a career high 20 rebounds, netted 10 points. Senior Karsyn Kondracki notched nine points and banked seven.

The Bulls (No. 10 seed) will have their work cut out for them with another road game against Northport (No. 2) in the quarterfinal round Feb. 17. Admission tickets are not available at the gate and are sold online only at https://gofan.co/app/school/NYSPHSAAXI. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Wildcats of Shoreham-Wading River put on a show in a multi-school cheerleading meet placing 6th in the large school category at Centereach High School Feb. 5. 

It was the last cheer competition of the regular season before the Suffolk championships Feb. 19 at Hauppauge High School.

It was a battle right to the final buzzer at Comsewogue high school when the Warriors hosted West Babylon in a game separated by less than three points in the final minutes of play. 

Comsewogue trailed by one with :05.3 seconds left in regulation, but the clock wouldn’t wait as the Warriors fell 59-57 in the league IV matchup Jan. 22. 

Senior Hayden Morris Gray topped the scoring chart for Comsewogue draining 5 treys a field goal and a free throw for 18 points. 

Colin Strohm had 3 triples and a pair of field goals for 13 and teammate Matt Walsh banked 11. The loss drops the Warriors to 3-5 in league 7-6 overall.

The Lady Mustangs of Mount Sinai trailed from the opening tip-off and edged ahead by one, with less than a minute left in the first half. 

John Glenn brought a potent three-point game that the Mustangs struggled to contain in the league VI matchup Jan 20.  

Tied at 41 all with six minutes left in regulation, John Glenn drew several fouls and did their damage from the free throw line defeating the Mustangs 61-53 for their first loss of the season. 

Mount Sinai senior Casey Campo topped the scoring charts with 24 points and Kyle Budke banked 18. 

The loss drops the Mustangs to 6-1 in league to share the top spot with Shoreham Wading River with six games remaining before post season play begins.

The Port Jefferson Royals led from the opening tip with senior Abigail Rolfe battling in the paint all game to lead her team with 18 points in a 50-37 victory over Center Moriches Jan. 18. 

Rolfe scored 4 fields goals and went 10 for 11 at the free throw line in the league VII road game. 

Lola Idir nail 3 triples and a pair of field goals for 13 points, Annie Maier and Amy Whitman scored 7 points a piece, Camryn Spiller hit a trey and Caitlyn Dickhuth banked two. 

The win lifts the Royals to 3-0 in league 7-2 overall. The Royals retake the court where they’ll host Babylon on Jan. 21. Game time is 4:30 p.m.

It was Shoreham-Wading River’s defense and GraceAnn Leonard’s 25 points that led the Wildcats to a 59-42 win at home against John Glenn in a league VI matchup Jan. 14. 

Glenn trailed by six at the half but the Wildcats found their rhythm in the 3rd and stretched their legs in the final 8 minutes of play to put the game away. 

Leonard scored 12 field goals and a free throw, teammates Sophie Costello scored 7 from the floor a triple and two from the line for 19 points and Sophia Lavey banked 6. 

Carlie Cutinella netted 5 and Colleen Ohrtman and Katie Coster had two points apiece. 

The win lifts the Wildcats 5-1 in league for sole possession of 2nd place one game behind Mount Sinai.

Once again Ward Melville senior Tommy Engel led his team in scoring in a League II matchup against Bay Shore, scoring 16 points for a 59-49 victory at home Jan. 11.

Teammates Tommy Ribaudo and KJ Anderson each scored 12 points apiece and Lorenzo Beaton banked seven. Seniors Frank Carroll, Michael Dargan and Josh Horvath netted four points each. The win lifts the Patriots to 5-1 in the league, 10-2 overall. Ward Melville is one game behind Northport who sits atop the leaderboard.

The Patriots are back in action Jan. 14 with a road game against Walt Whitman. Game time is 7 p.m.
