Cira

MEET CIRA AND SAMPSON!

This week’s shelter pets are Cira, left, and Sampson, right, from the Smithtown Animal Shelter.

Cira is a one-year-old female domestic shorthair mix who was brought in to the shelter as a stray. An injury from her life as a stray caused her to lose some of her tail, but this only adds to her charm. This love bug has a very gentle and loving demeanor, with an unlimited supply of cuddles and affection. Her perfect home would be with children where she can get (and give!) all kinds of love and friendship. 

Sampson is a 2-year-old male domestic shorthair who was found living as a stray and was brought into the shelter by a good samaritan. He was underweight at first, but the team at the shelter have helped him to add a few pounds and get him healthy again Sampson not only has a huge appetite for food, but he also craves love! He is a very outgoing and sweet little guy who just wants to give and get love anywhere he can find it. He may be small in stature, but he has a big heart and an even mightier spirit inside. Sampson gets along well with other cats and is good for a family with children.

Mia

MEET MIA!

This week’s shelter pet is Mia, a young female Mastiff and Lab mix who came to the shelter as a stray after being hit by a car. Fortunately, Mia’s injuries were not severe, with only a few scrapes and minor fractures in her foot. 

Mia’s former owner could no longer provide for her, post car accident. Despite being scared and injured, she began to bond with the shelter staff with her playful and affectionate personality shining through the bruises and bumps.

In her former life, Mia was an outdoor yard dog who didn’t receive much attention. The silver lining is just how grateful she is to love and be cuddled by everyone she meets. Mia would be best in a home without other pets or children.

Blaze

MEET BLAZE!

This week’s shelter pet is Blaze, a seven-year-old male pit terrier at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. Blaze came to the shelter after being dumped in a county park, locked in a cage. However, he has truly begun to learn to love and trust his humans. This energetic good boy enjoys running around in the shelter’s dog park, eating treats, and when it’s hot out, splashing around in the pool! He can be a very loyal dog once he learns to trust you. 

Blaze knows his basic commands like sit, wait, give paw, and walks nicely on a leash. Blaze needs an adult-only home familiar with big breed dogs, without other pets. His ideal family will spend time giving him the love (and treats) that he deserves, understanding that he had a tough life before the shelter.

MEET GIA!

This week’s featured shelter pet is Gia, a nine-month-old female French bulldog mix currently waiting at the Smithtown Animal & Adoption Shelter for a loving family to adopt her.

This little pumpkin was rescued from a sad start to life. While she is still learning how to trust people, she is beginning to learn that playing with toys and being showered with love is a part of her daily routine. If anyone deserves a home for the holidays, it’s this bundle of happiness packed into a small sized dog. 

Gia enjoys playing with the staff and volunteers all day long. She does have some orthopedic issues, requiring special care to meet her needs. However, a little extra work is worth the endless love and appreciation Gia displays when she snuggles up to you. 

If you are interested in meeting this sweetheart, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in a domestic setting, which includes the shelter’s Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs and Dog Walk trail.

MEET WILLOW!

This sweet girl is Willow, a 2-year-old female pittie mix patiently waiting at the Smithtown Animal and Adoption Center since March. Dubbed a “whole body wagger” by the staff, Willow will give you the greatest welcome home greeting you have ever experienced and loves to be petted behind those big, tall ears. Willow is okay with some dogs but not cats and would love some kids to call her own, to play with her all summer long! She comes spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated and would make a great family pet.
