ADOPT BUSTER FOR THE HOWLIDAYS!

This 4-year-old 90 pound male chocolate lab at the Smithtown Animal Shelter is fun and affectionate. He loves all people, taking walks and FOOD!

This handsome, healthy, and energetic boy was brought to the animal shelter due to a change in his family’s circumstances. We simply can’t comprehend how this dapper dog hasn’t managed to lock down a great home yet.

Buster is athletic, and is not shy when it comes to showing off how fast he can fetch a tennis ball. He gets the “bootie wiggles” upon greeting him… which will provide for endless laughter and joy for one lucky family. Buster is a rambunctious tweenager, who has some resource guarding, so he may not live with younger children or other animals. His best life would be with a family who has experience, patience and understanding, when it comes to the highly intelligent mind of a labrador.  A little persistence is worth it for this chocolate lab, who melts hearts and has a very long life of unconditional love, laughter and memories to give.

Adopt Lucky!    

This handsome, black-and-white male, labrador mix at the Smithtown Animal Shelter is approximately four years old. Lucky is a golden nugget of joy in search of his four-leaf clover. Sadly, luck was not on his side when he was abandoned by the people who adopted him due to a change in their living situation. Despite his heartbreak, Lucky remains incredibly sweet, loving, and playful. The dedicated team at the Animal Shelter exclaims that this good boy is the most outgoing, friendly pup who loves meeting new people. To say that Lucky is a social butterfly would be an understatement.

Lucky has so much love to give, is full of energy, and can be adopted to a home with children, and likely other pets. He has a penchant for escape, so this is something that his future family will need to keep in mind. Lucky is an absolute crowd-pleasing delight, who would make a wonderful addition to a household looking for a fun-loving companion.

MEET KAI!

This week’s shelter pet is Kai,  a Bully/Poodle/Terrier mix still waiting to be adopted from the Smithtown Animal  & Adoption Shelter since arriving  in February of this year.

Estimated to be about two years old, Kai is one adorably unique looking dude! At 55 pounds, he is love and fun all of the time but was denied proper training and socializing and nees a patient family that will show him love and give him the time he’s been denight. He would do best in a home with older children. To meet him is to fall in love!

Gorgs

MEET SAMMY AND GORGS!

These dapper, domestic short-haired, white tabby, male housemates at the Smithtown Animal Shelter are only two years old. Despite their remarkable resemblance, Sammy and Gorgs are not biological brothers. These beautiful boys were adopted together at the shelter as baby kittens. Sadly, hard times fell upon them when their Dad’s living situation changed, and he was not permitted to take his furry family members with him.

Upon making the boys’ acquaintance, you will quickly learn that it doesn’t take Gorgs very long to warm up to people. A little attention and gentle petting will be instantly rewarded with the sweet sound of his endearing purr, and endless affection. Sammy is a bit on the shy side, but once you earn his trust, you will receive unconditional love and loyalty. It is nearly impossible to resist Sammy’s charming nature when he reveals how exceptionally lovable he really is.

This duo will warm your heart and offer a lifetime of cherished memories to share. These boys have been through a lot, therefore the team at the shelter would prefer them to find a forever home together. However, they are not bonded and could be separated for the right situation. Both are healthy and would likely fit purr-fectly in most homes, including those with older children, cats, and calm dogs.

All of the felines at the Shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc) by a board certified Veterinarian.

MEET SNOOP BIRD!

This week’s shelter pet is Snoop Bird, a blue, black and white female parakeet who was found as a stray  on Oct. 16 and dropped off at the Smithtown Animal  & Adoption Shelter.  

Estimated to be about 11 months old, Snoop Bird is a vocal and happy girl. She is just getting to know the shelter staff but tolerates hands in her cage fairly well. Will a little time and patience, the staff has every reason to believe she will become hand tame. Like most parakeets, she would love a buddy.

Joy and Envy

MEET JOY AND ENVY!

This week’s featured shelter pets are Joy and Envy, available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. These charming, all-black, domestic short-haired, females are only nine months old. When these  sisters arrived at the shelter as teeny baby kittens, they were both incredibly timid and shy. After receiving lots of TLC from the team at the shelter, these two have blossomed into affectionate, lovable little ladies ready to find their forever family.

Joy and Envy’s warm and loving nature is evident to anyone fortunate enough to make their acquaintance. Aside from being absolutely gorgeous, these two are extremely sweet and playful. Expect a double dose of purring, lap naps and snuggles while in the company of these fabulous fur babies. These sisters will entertain themselves for hours with a supply of kitty toys, providing one lucky family with an unlimited amount of laughter and amusement. Joy and Envy would thrive in most homes, including a family with other cats, calm dogs, and older children. They are sisters who have never been separated and would do best if adopted together.

Bunny

“The only limits in life are the ones you make.”

Surrendered to a local town shelter after being hit by a car and sustaining injuries, Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center stepped in to rescue Bunny, a two-year-old Pit mix. Once her healing was complete, the staff began working on her leash and basic training skills, soon realizing that Bunny was deaf in conjunction with some neurological deficits such as head tremors and incoordination. Up to the challenge, the staff have subsequently been able to introduce different methods and tools to help Bunny better adjust to her new surroundings, ensuring she feels safe, secure, and treasured while she waits for her forever home.

Bunny

The best word to describe Bunny is ‘joyful’. Whether she’s spending time with her favorite people (and toys!) in one of the pens, or running free on the hill, she can often be heard enthusiastically voicing her appreciation and approval of a good time. Pure of heart, she is affectionate, loving, funny and playful. She is high-energy and high-spirited and is hoping for a family that can provide her with opportunities for exercise and adventure.

Despite her sweet natured demeanor, we’ve noticed that Bunny has significant food protection behavior with regard to other animals, possibly due to sensory loss or circumstances she may have faced in the past. For that reason, she requires a home without other dogs or cats. Also, because she plays with ‘joyful’ abandon and can’t always understand cues for correction, an adult home or one with older children would best fit her needs.

Bunny is blissfully unaware that she is any different from other dogs. Truthfully, in all the ways that matter, she is exactly the same: She has the same unequivocal loyalty, the same forgiving nature, the same optimistic attitude, and the same ability to love unconditionally. Bunny is a daily inspiration to live life without limits, always expect the best, and to embrace each moment.

MEET JOHNNY AND JUNE!

This week’s shelter pets are  the inseparable pair of Johnny Cash and June Carter, available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter!

Johnny (male) and June (female) sport matching red and brown coats and are approximately four years old. They are both pint-sized meatballs, about the same size as a bulldog.

Their introductions to the public began when they were found wandering in Kings Park. It quickly became clear that this exquisite pair had been used for breeding purposes and later carelessly discarded. Despite their misfortune, Johnny and June are two incredibly sweet, loveable house hippos! They enjoy tons of attention and never miss an opportunity to shine in the spotlight. This stunning duo deserves nothing short of finding a great family to show them what a fairytale ending really looks like.

These two have been through a lot together and adore each other. The team at the shelter would be thrilled if they could live happily ever after together however, under the right circumstances they can be separated.

While June could possibly be placed in a home with other dogs, the only one for Johnny is June. They both would do well with children over the age of ten. They are young and healthy, however June has heat intolerance which needs to be managed.

Meet this week’s Shelter Pet of the Week, Bronco; a four-year-old male bully mix, adorning a gorgeous brindle with unique white patches up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. Sadly, this innocent boy was cruelly abandoned at a local park. Despite his hardship, Bronco has warmed up to the team at the shelter who have come to discover what an endearing little charmer he is.

Bronco is a playful fella who fancies himself quite the athlete! His impressive ability to catch treats with precision, is a sight to behold! Bronco is not shy when it comes to letting you know he is looking for some playtime. He will hand deliver his favorite toys to your feet for a game of fetch or tug of war. This beefcake is young, healthy, and has a lifetime of adventures and companionship ready to share.

Bronco is a lady’s man who sincerely adores to be around women. He currently experiences some hesitancy and trust issues around men and other animals. This boy would be best suited in a home with no children or pets. He needs a patient home that can show him structure and love.

Houston

Looking for a distinguished gentleman? We’ve got the man for you. Meet Houston!

Last year, just a few days before Christmas, Houston, a thirteen-year-old Beagle mix, suddenly found himself back at Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center, 33 Warner Road in Huntington. After being in a home for nearly his entire life, he was unceremoniously relinquished. He was no longer part of the family he loved. Everything he’d known was gone. He’d done absolutely nothing wrong. Yet here he was on our doorstep….

Despite arriving sad and malnourished, Houston quickly realized his luck had taken a positive turn. He now had a comfortable bed, three square meals a day, and an unlimited supply of love and well-deserved attention. It didn’t take long before he was thriving and happy, with a new outlook on life

Although a senior, he is young at heart, mind, and spirit, enjoying the most walks of anyone in kennels. With arguably the best nose to sniff out treats, he doesn’t hesitate to use those “puppy dog eyes” to his best advantage, garnering an extra biscuit when no one is looking! A great ambassador, he is often the first pick to go to events, being amiable and welcoming with other dogs and always a good judge of character.

Only taking medication for joint health, this “baby boomer” still possesses an age defying sense of adventure. Great in the car, he thoroughly enjoys the ride while anticipating the destination. A bit of a local celebrity, he always advocates for adoption, knowing that rescue dogs are good for the soul. Adopting a shelter dog is a great way to turn love into action. The love you receive in return is an extraordinary benefit.

Senior dogs teach us about resilience, patience, and the beauty of cherishing each moment. They have a deep capacity for love and gratitude and know the value of being given a second chance. Aptly described as “older, wiser, and still stealing hearts”, Houston is looking for his forever home. Never too old to dream, he’s ready for the love he deserves…the one that will last a lifetime.
