Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the murder of a man who was found on a Blue Point beach on March 4.
Fifth Precinct officers responded to the beach at the end of Blue Point Avenue at approximately 6:30 a.m. after a passerby reported a body on the beach. When officers arrived, they found Carlos Lopez with stab wounds. Lopez, 27, of Central Islip, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852- 6392 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Suffolk County Police arrested a man on March 4 for operating electronic gambling devices at a business in
Shirley.
In response to numerous community complaints, Seventh Precinct Crime Section officers conducted an inspection check at Lucky Smoke Shop and Beer, located at 20 Floyd Road at approximately 4 p.m. During the inspection, officers observed three electronic gambling devices in the rear of the store. The devices were seized.
The manager of the store, Ankit Patel, 30, of Selden, was charged with Possession of a Gambling
Device. The Brookhaven Fire Marshal issued numerous summonses for violations of the New York State fire code and condemned the location over safety concerns.
Patel was issued a Field Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.

The Town of Smithtown was recently selected as a recipient of National Grid’s Community Engagement Grant. The $5,000 grant will support the reconstruction of the waterfall at the 9/11 Memorial Park on Main Street in Smithtown, ensuring that this cherished landmark continues to serve as a place of remembrance and reflection for the community.

This waterfall is more than a peaceful sanctuary for remembrance; it stands as a powerful symbol of that promise. It represents our unwavering unity, faith, and resilience—the same spirit that guided us through our darkest hours and continues to inspire us today,” said Smithtown Town Supervisor Edward R. Wehrheim.
As part of the grant agreement, the Town of Smithtown and National Grid will collaborate to promote the project, highlighting the program and partnership. This initiative will include new public awareness, ceremonial ribbon cutting, and employee engagement opportunities for National Grid staff to participate in the restoration efforts.
The 9/11 Memorial Park serves as a place of remembrance, honoring Smithtown residents who were tragically taken from us on September 11, 2001. The waterfall has always been a symbolic and tranquil feature of the memorial, providing a special place for reflection and healing.
