Centereach High School’s sabreist Catherine Dwulit and eighth-grade foilist Gianna DiCanio won all three of their matches on the road to lead their team to a 15-12 victory over Newfield in the season opener Dec. 3.

The Cougars are back in action Dec. 10 at home where they’ll host Brentwood/Bay Shore at 5 p.m. Newfield is back out on the strip Dec. 8 where they take on Ward Melville/Comsewogue at Brentwood High School at 9 a.m.

The Shoreham-Wading River Wildcats football team will don the Suffolk County crown for a fourth time in five years after defeating the Mount Sinai Mustangs, 28-21, at LaValle Stadium, Stony Brook University Nov. 16 in the Division IV final. The Wildcats will play on for the Long Island championship Nov. 23 at Stony Brook against Cold Spring Harbor.

Despite some impressive plays against William Floyd at LaValle Stadium, Stony Brook University Nov. 17, Ward Melville Patriots football team did not walk away the winners of the Suffolk County Division I title game. The final score was 34-17.

The Commack girls varsity volleyball team was proud to defend its title as Suffolk County’s Class AA champions Nov. 8. The Cougars tore apart Connetquot, 3-0, at county finals held at Suffolk County Community College’s Brentwood campus.

This is the second straight year that the Cougars have gone undefeated in Suffolk with an overall record of 13-0.  The Commack girls volleyball team competed against Long Beach vying for the Long Island Championship title Nov. 11 and came up short 2-3.

The Centereach Cougars varsity football team traveled to Lindenhurst Middle School to take on the Bulldogs on Nov. 10. The Cougars fell to Lindenhurst 14 -7 in the Division II county semifinal.

Ward Melville Patriots boys volleyball team hosted Smithtown East Bulls Nov. 2 in the Suffolk County Division I semifinal bracket and swept their opponents in three sets. The Patriots advanced to the Division I volleyball championship.

Newfield Wolverines varsity boys soccer team contested Walt Whitman High School Nov. 1 for the Suffolk Class AA boys soccer final at Diamond in the Pines, Coram, and lost to the Wildcats, 2-1.

 

Centereach Cougars varsity football team hosted Smithtown West Bulls Oct. 28. With the 33-14 win, the Cougars are now 5-3 in Division II.

The Ward Melville girls volleyball team traveled to Connetquot High School Oct. 29 for the opening round of the volleyball playoffs. The Patriots lost 3-0. 

Sunny skies were the perfect backdrop for Northport High School’s 2018 homecoming celebration held on Oct. 20 in the Tigers newly redone stadium.

Northport varsity football team took on the Centereach Cougars in a match that saw the visiting team take an early lead. Tenacity and skill won out, as the Tigers won with a final score of 35-6. 

The halftime show featured the marching band, Tigerettes and Flagline who performed a variety of popular songs for the crowd. Seniors Trevor Koulemos and Pegeen Friese were crowned homecoming king and queen at the dance. 

Earlier in the day, Northport-East Northport school district held its annual  Hall of Fame induction in the auditorium. This year’s inductees included: Max Bartig, Class of 2006; Andrew D’Eloia, Class of 1991; Corinne Gandolfi, Class of 2006; Bryan Quinn, Class of 2003; Jaenine Michealsen, Class of 1986; the 2002 state championship girls varsity volleyball team and the Northport Tiger Marching Band, Flagline and Tigerettes.
