Suffolk County police 4th Squad detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a woman in Hauppauge Feb. 18.

Patrick Chestnut was driving a 2014 Mazda eastbound on Nesconset Highway when he attempted to make a turn at Route 111 — his vehicle crashed head-on with a 2017 Honda traveling westbound on Nesconset Highway at approximately 12:15 p.m.

The driver of the Honda, Robert Sheehan, 73, of Lake Ronkonkoma, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.  His wife, Lorraine Sheehan, 70, was transported to St. Catherine’s of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, where she was pronounced dead. Chestnut, 32, of Fairfield, Ohio, and his passenger Karma Spear, 31, of Bay Shore, were both transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A robbery suspect allegedly ripped a woman out of her car while she was stopped at a traffic light Tuesday morning.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, the woman was driving to work and had exited the Long Island Expressway at exit 56 shortly before 9 a.m. She was waiting at a red light at the north service road’s intersection with Route 111 in Hauppauge when a man who was walking in the roadway opened the car’s front passenger door and got inside. Police said the woman tried to fight off the robber as he stole her belongings.

From there, police allege the man got out of the car, walked around to the driver’s side, opened the door, forcibly removed the victim from the car and dragged her onto the pavement. He allegedly got into the driver’s seat and took more of her property, as she again fought him.

Police said the suspect ran away as other people started to approach the car to aid the victim.

Officers searched the area and broadcasted a description of the suspect, police said, and about 10 minutes later found suspect Richard Clinton a short distance away, at Route 111 and Motor Parkway.

Clinton, a 34-year-old whose last known address was in Medford, was arrested and treated at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore “for the effects of narcotic drug use,” police said. He is charged with second-degree robbery, resisting arrest and three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Attorney information for the suspect was not available. According to police, Clinton will be arraigned at a later date.

A man in a mask stole prescription narcotics from a North Shore pharmacy on Sunday afternoon, according to police.

The incident started at about 1:30 p.m., when the suspect entered a Shop Rite on the south side of Nesconset Highway in Hauppauge, near the intersection with Route 111, the Suffolk County Police Department said. The man, clad in a ski mask and sunglasses, went to the pharmacy counter and demanded the drugs, and an employee complied.

Police said the man did not threaten violence or display a weapon during the robbery. He fled on foot, going south toward Route 111.

According to police, the suspect has been described as a white male with a medium build who is between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall. He was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt and khaki pants at the time of the crime.

Detectives from the SCPD’s Pattern Crime Unit are investigating the robbery. Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.

Police charged a man with driving without a license Tuesday night after a crash that sent two officers and two civilians to the hospital.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, 4th Precinct officers John Kurklen and Adam Tuthill had recently stopped a 2013 Hyundai Sonata for a vehicle and traffic infraction on the westbound side of Route 347 in Hauppauge when another vehicle, a 2001 Toyota Corolla, crashed into the back of their police cruiser. The police car then struck the two officers, as well as the two people who had been in the Hyundai.

Kurklen and Tuthill were treated at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown and released, police said, but the pair from the Hyundai, a 25-year-old woman from Levittown and a 37-year-old Farmingdale man, suffered multiple internal injuries and are in serious condition at Stony Brook University Hospital.

Police said during the traffic stop — which happened east of Route 111 around 8:30 p.m. — before being struck by the Toyota, officers recovered drug paraphernalia and heroin from the Hyundai, of which the Levittown resident was the driver.

The Toyota’s driver, 24-year-old Brentwood resident Orvin Antonio Gabriel, was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and with operating a vehicle while approaching a parked, stopped or standing emergency vehicle.

Attorney information for Gabriel was not immediately available. He was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.

No charges have been filed against the Hyundai’s passengers.

Police impounded all three vehicles involved in the crash for safety checks. Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are investigating the case, and ask that anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call them at 631-852-6555.
