It’s back!
WholeSoy yogurt fans couldn't be happier about its long-awaited return
It doesn’t take much, one could say, to make me happy. At least, I’m sure that’s what the people over at Wild By Nature thought when they saw me dancing through the aisles with a basket filled with — are you ready? — WholeSoy & Co. organic, dairy-free soy yogurt!
Yes, I speak the truth! After nearly a year of a gaping WholeSoy hole on the shelves, this most glorious vision was before me. Tons of 8-oz. containers! Legions of them in a tantalizing array of flavors — peach, raspberry, vanilla, and glory of all glories, strawberry!
I was there to buy O Soy yogurt, which had been filling the void since January. But since I had seen last week’s announcement on WholeSoy’s website saying they were back in business, I thought I’d just check. I braced myself for more disappointment. I mean, who could blame me after the months of missed deadlines?
But when I actually saw it, I couldn’t help but give a little squeal. And yes, I filled my basket with pretty much every strawberry-flavored yogurt on the shelf. What do you expect? It’s been 10 months! And I did say there were other flavors.
The guy stocking the shelf at the moment had to think I was crazy. Wouldn’t be the first time. But at least this time it was due to my unfiltered enthusiasm.
As to the poor cashier, well, he was treated to the full rundown of why this was such a momentous shopping excursion. I told him the whole(soy) story, starting with the company being thrown out of its co-packing plant last May; moving to a new factory in June; and then finally leaving the new plant after about a month to embark upon a quest to build its own factory. I told him about the many re-ship dates that had passed —July, August, October, November, December, January — it was like pages turning on a calendar. And then, came the announcement that the stuff had actually shipped! He wasn’t the first cashier to have followed my crazy detective trail, but he was the first to hear the happy ending.
And with that, my friends, I give you the thrilling conclusion to Organic, Dairy-Free Soy Yogurt-geddon 2013. Well, it’s almost the end. The last piece of this puzzle, I plan to solve on my next visit to Trader Joe’s. Yes, there is the detail of Trader Joe’s brand soy yogurt being gone at the same time and for the same duration as WholeSoy. No one will tell me that WholeSoy makes Trader Joe’s yogurt. But all I can say is, coincidence? I don’t think so.
