This beautiful girl is looking for the love of a lifetime. She arrived at Brookhaven Animal Shelter after being found with another dog. She is 56 pounds and is estimated to be about to seven to eight years young. All she is seeking is your love and attention. Misty loves to go for walks, she will automatically sit for cookies which she is very gentle about taking, but her favorite thing to do is cuddle up next to you. Calling all Shepherd lovers! Meet handsome and intelligent Reed! This sweet boy came to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter as a stray in August and sadly no one came to claim him. This 100 lb hunk is approximately 4 years old and is full of energy. He loves to go for walks and knows several commands. He would do best in a home with children 16 years and does well around other dogs but he is NOT a fan of his feline friends. Sweet senior Smokey was adopted from the Smithtown Animal Shelter as a kitten  in 2009 and returned when his mom fell on hard times and had to move. This brown and white tabby is all affection all of the time. He is as gentle as he is handsome and has lived with another cat in the past. Cash in on Cash! Currently up for adoption at Save-A-Pet in Port Jefferson Station, this 2.5 year old sweetheart has been through a lot in his short life. He was born with bilateral luxating patellas (knee issues) which an orthopedic surgeon repaired. He has been recovering in foster care for the last few months and is now looking for a lifelong loving home of his own. Cash is 100% housed-trained. He knows many basic commands and is easily redirected. He learns very quickly and just wants to be your best boy. He loves being outside and playing with his toys — he  even plays fetch!

Starling is as affectionate, vocal and sweet as they come. She was overindulged in her last home and was permitted to get extremely overweight. This sweet girl was picked up as a stray by an animal control officer and brought to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter. Sadly, no one has come forward to claim her so she’s ready for a new start in a loving home.

Orchard is estimated to be between 6 to 8 years old and weighs approximately 55 pounds. She’s housebroken, crate trained, and knows some impressive commands like sit, down, stay, and paw but would like to be in a home with no cats.

These sweet siblings were abandoned in cat carriers on the side of the Long Island Expressway on June 26. Rescuers brought these two young girls, estimated to be 1 1/2 years old, to the Smithtown Animal Shelter where they needed a little time to adjust. Free rabies clinic

The Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, 300 Horseblock Road, Brookhaven will hold a free Rabies Clinic on Saturday, July 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The clinic is open to all Town residents and offers free rabies vaccinations for all dogs, cats and ferrets and free cat/dog FVRCP or DAPPCV vaccine. Dogs must be on a leash. Cats and ferrets must be in a carrier. No appointment necessary. For more information, call 631-451-6950.

Prince arrived at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter because his family was moving and they were unable to take him. Upon arrival he was a bit confused as to what happened to his people and how he ended up homeless, alone and in the animal shelter. Prince is one of those dogs that needed some extra time, after all he was with his family since he was a pup and he will be 8 years old in June. 

His previous owner describes him as an outgoing guy who is playful, high energy, friendly, an amazing partner who loves to show affection and be with you. Prince is hoping to get a second chance at a good life with a human to love and a place to call his own. He just needs a chance. He is housebroken, crate trained, loves his bed, knows sit and is very treat motivated. He is great at catching his treats mid air. He will need a home with children over 10 years old and he will do best as the only pet. He is about 76 pounds, 7.5 years young, up to date on vaccinations, neutered, micro-chipped and heartworm negative.

These two brothers were going door to door crying to get into people’s homes until a Good Samaritan brought them to the Smithtown Animal Shelter in December. Estimated to be approximately 7 months old, they are shy at first but incredibly sweet once they decide to trust you. Minion had a bad injury that led to the loss of his eye, but he is happy and healthy otherwise. These siblings are bonded and would like to be adopted together if possible. This adorable and sweet girl is looking for love. She was brought to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter by an Animal Control Officer after being taken out of a bad situation. She arrived a bit shy and nervous, but she has so many friends now and has really come a long way with socialization. Currently she is available and actively looking for her soul-mate. Nichie is playful and energetic yet gentle and affectionate. She is a big girl, very strong, not a jumper, and loves attention and toys.

Mia is a spayed female pit or mastiff mix currently up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. This handsome guy is Konstantin, a 5-year-old tabby cat at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter who is constantly purring and looking for love. Konstantin arrived at the shelter after being taken out of a bad situation for his own safety. He arrived flea infested and upon an examination with the doctor it was discovered that he has a heart murmur. An echocardiogram revealed that he has Tachycardia and now takes a 81mg aspirin once every three days. It was recommended that he have a follow up Echocardiogram in 9 months. He is doing fabulous and he is hoping to find his forever home very soon. Weighing in at 11.12 pounds, he up to date on vaccinations, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative. Jack is a senior Jack Russell Terrier at Brookhaven Animal Shelter in need of a hospice home. He is probably about 14 years old, is good with dogs and cats and is full of spunk. Linx was taken to Smithtown Animal Shelter as a stray and was never claimed. This young boy is around 3 to 4 years old. He is well mannered and housebroken. Linx is beyond a typical German Shepherd and needs a GSD experienced owner. He is ball and stick obsessed and loves to play. Linx is a good natured dog that needs a strong Alpha leader to follow. Home for the Holidays

The Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center is celebrating the holiday season with its “Home for the Holidays” promotion, featuring free pet adoptions now through the month of December. Each adoption includes free neuter or spay, vaccinations, microchip, heartworm test, flea and other tests. The normal adoption fees are $137 for a dog and $140 for a cat. All adoptable pets are looking for a forever home this holiday season. If you are interested in adopting a dog or cat, visit the Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center located at 300 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.. Meet Boo

Look who’s waiting for you at the Smithtown Animal Shelter! This stunning and giant boy is as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside. Boo loves to get attention and pets. He can be a little dominant with other cats, so he would likely do best as the only pet in the home or with very quiet/low key pets. Meet Milo

At 79 pounds, this hunk is a happy, outgoing and playful guy who is looking for a love connection. Picked up as a stray by a Good Samaritan, he is now at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter  hoping to find a new family to call his own very soon. Estimated to be 5 to 8 years young, Milo walks well on leash, is sweet and bouncy, loves attention and would make a great companion and best friend. He has the sweetest eyes and will melt your heart. Meet Tori

Tori is seeking a new foster or forever home! Available through Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton, Tori is a wonderfully sweet and affectionate dog who is just not built for the shelter life. A two and a half year old lab mix, she was originally rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas, and just when she thought she was out of the woods in a forever home she was attacked by another dog. We can’t blame her for not being happy in a shelter after all of the trouble she has been through in her short life so far.  She is currently so happy in her foster home, however it’s not the perfect forever fit and both her foster mom and Kent agree she deserves the best of the best. Tori is looking for a home with no cats (this playful pup likes to chase), moderate activity (too many new people coming and going can be scary), and lots of love to give.
