Port Jeff clung to a one-point lead with 0:42 seconds left in regulation but two late game fouls by Center Moriches sent the Royals to the charity stripe where they put the game away 52-47 for the league VII win Feb. 10.

Conor Daily the sophomore led the way for the Royals draining four three-pointers and a pair of field goals for 16 points. Senior John Sheils netted 12 points on the night and Luke Dickhuth banked 8. The win lifts Port Jefferson to 10-8 in league for their final regular season game.

It was a battle for the top spot for Royals of Port Jefferson (5-0) and the Greenport Porters (7-0) in league VII play Monday, Jan. 31 night where the Royals took the early lead and never looked back in the 55-38 win. 

It was Abigail Rolfe the senior who battled in the paint all game long drawing foul after foul, making the Porters pay at the free throw line hitting 12 out of 12. 

Lola Idir did what she’s done all season hitting four triples, three field goals and three from the line for a team high 21 points. Rolfe banked 18 points and Annie Maier netted 10. The Royals retake the court Feb. 4 with a road game against Mattituck. Game time is 5:45 p.m.

The Port Jefferson Royals led from the opening tip with senior Abigail Rolfe battling in the paint all game to lead her team with 18 points in a 50-37 victory over Center Moriches Jan. 18. 

Rolfe scored 4 fields goals and went 10 for 11 at the free throw line in the league VII road game. 

Lola Idir nail 3 triples and a pair of field goals for 13 points, Annie Maier and Amy Whitman scored 7 points a piece, Camryn Spiller hit a trey and Caitlyn Dickhuth banked two. 

The win lifts the Royals to 3-0 in league 7-2 overall. The Royals retake the court where they’ll host Babylon on Jan. 21. Game time is 4:30 p.m.

Port Jefferson opened their league VII season with a dominant performance over Southold where the Royals broke out to a 14-1 lead in the early going and never looked back. 

The First Settlers made a better showing in the second quarter, but still trailed 26-11 at the halftime break. 

With a 16-point advantage to begin the final 8 minutes of play, the Royals spelled their starters, flushed their bench and cruised to a 54-37 victory.

Senior guard John Sheils led the way in scoring for the Royals with 21 points and junior forward Luke Dickhuth netted 18.

The Royals retake the court with a road game against Pierson Dec. 9 with a 6:15 p.m. start.

Port Jefferson’s girls varsity soccer team came out strong and scored often in a home game against Wyandanch in a Div II matchup Sept. 22.

The outcome was never in doubt after the Lady Royals took a 5-0 lead into the halftime break. With a roster which lists one eighth grader, eight freshman, eight sophomores with a lone senior, the 8-0 victory belied their years.

Freshman Gwen Connelly led the way with three goals, teammate Olivia Bianco banked two and Ava Cooper, Caitlin Dickhuth and Alexa Jacobs each scored. Freshman Rose Meliker-Hammock had three saves in net. The win lifts Port Jeff to 4-3 with eight games remaining before post season play begins.

It was a high scoring game for the Class D Long Island Lacrosse Championship between Royals of Port Jefferson and the Quakers of Friends Academy at the Boomer Esiason Field at East Islip High School. 29 goals found their mark but the first 28 didn’t count. Deadlocked at 14-14 it would take two four minute overtime periods to decide the winner where the Royals lost a heartbreaker in the 6th period June 19.

Port Jeff junior Kyle Scandale led the scoring with 4, Brady DeWitt scored 3 and Daniel Koban concluded his varsity career with his hat-trick. Peter Murphy the junior had 9 saves on the day.

The Royals finished their COVID-19 abbreviated season with their first ever County Championship title with an 8-8 record.

The Port Jefferson Royals at 0-6 had their hands full looking for that elusive first win of the season on the road against the 5-1 Eagles of Rocky Point, but that first taste of victory wasn’t to be. Port Jeff fielded a short roster resulting in a 7 on 7 contest without the luxury of substitution. The Eagles rattled off four unanswered goals in the first half and peppered the scoreboard with four more in the second for an 8-0 shutout.

The win lifts the Eagles to 6-1 in Div II just beyond the half way point with 6 games remaining.

The Harborfields Tornadoes had the measure of the Lady Royals of Port Jefferson in their season opener Sept. 10, winning the game at home 7-1. Senior Co-Captain Gracie Heil led the way for the Tornadoes with two goals, while junior Katie Davis scored along with an assist. Junior Kate Christensen, senior Mia Desiderio, junior Taylor Sammis and freshman Melissa Neder rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. Harborfields senior keeper Zoe Krief made seven saves at net.

The Royals broke the ice in the second half when Sophomore Abigal Rolfe’s shot found the net with 18 minutes left.

Port Jeff plays an away game against Hampton Bays before they take on Kings Park in their first home game Sept. 18  at 4 p.m.

The Tornadoes retake the field Sept. 16 at home where they’ll try their hand against the Lady Kingsmen. Game time is also 4:00pm.
