Mount Sinai senior attack Taylor Cline broke the ice for the Mustangs when her shot on goal split the pipes two minutes in, followed up with a goal from teammate Alexa Spallina at the 16-minute mark. Then Cline stretched the net again, putting the Mustangs out front 3-0.

Comsewogue answered back, however, as senior midfielder Gabby Constant scored twice in three minutes, followed by freshman attack Gianna McNulty’s shot on goal assisted by Jackie Riviezzo, tying the game at 3-3 with just under eight minutes left in the half. 

Spallina scored again, capped with a pair of goals by senior Lea Flobeck to lead it 6-3. The Warriors fought their way back to make it a one-score game when McNulty’s shot once again found its mark with just under seven minutes left in this Div. II matchup on Monday, March 27.

Spallina would score the insurance goal, firing at the cage while falling to seal the deal for the Mustangs, who won 8-6. Mount Sinai goalie Sara Flobeck had six saves in net.

Both teams are back in action this Friday, March 31, when the Mustangs host Bayport-Blue Point at 4:30 p.m. and the Warriors host Shoreham-Wading River at 5 p.m.

It came down to the final possession in the Suffolk girl’s lacrosse Class A title game where the Northport Tigers clung to a one goal lead and was able to hold off a late game surge by the Patriots of Ward Melville for the 8-7 win at Newfield High School May 25.  

Northport seniors Isabella Germani led the Tigers with four goals, and Ella Cabrera scored twice with two assists. Teammates Kaylie Mackiewicz and Shannon Smith both scored while Meghan Morris had a quiet day in net with four saves. 

Grace Balocca topped the scoring chart for the Patriots with three goals and goalie Ava Carrillo stopped seven. 

The win sends Northport to the Long Island Championship round where they’ll face either Massapequa or Syosset at Lavalle Stadium in Stony Brook June 5. Game time is at high noon.

It was Ward Melville senior Courtney Quinn’s goal in the opening minutes of the second half that gave the Patriots their first lead of the game over William Floyd in the Suffolk class AA semi-finals at home May 21.

Kate Spinks’ shot split the pipes two minutes later for the insurance goal followed by Grace Balocca who stretched the net to put the Patriots out front, 8-5. Floyd threatened with 15 minutes left to trail by one before the Patriots slammed the door rattling off four goals to win it 12-7. Quinn had two goals and two assists, Grace Balocca found the back of the cage three times as did Kate Spinks and Ava Simonton had an assist and two goals in the win. Ava Carrillo had six saves in net.

Ward Melville, the No. 2, seed faced Northport, the No. 1 seed, for the Suffolk championship game Wednesday, May 25. Results were not available at press time.

Riverhead rattled off three unanswered goals to tie the game five all to end the first half against the Bulls of Smithtown East in a home game April 30, but it was Smithtown East midfielder Ava Arceri’s stick that made the difference when the sophomore scored her eighth goal of the game to win the Division I matchup, 13-10. 

Arceri had an assist to go along with it, with teammates Jenna Soto scoring her hat-trick with two assists, and Nina DeNicola scored twice with one assist in the victory. Grace McDonald had eight saves in net. The win lifts the Bulls to 7-3 with four games remaining in regular season play before the playoffs begin.

The Patriots of Ward Melville led Connetquot by four goals after the first half and then slammed the door in the second for a 13-7 victory April 30.  

Midfielder Emma Retzlaff, a sophomore, led the way for the Patriots with one assist and four goals in the Division I matchup. Teammates Grace Balocca and Ava Simonton scored three goals each along with one assist, and Jillian Gironda had two goals and two assists. Senior Courtney Quinn had eight draw controls in the contest, and Ava Carrillo had six saves in net.  

The win keeps the Patriots undefeated at 10-0 in league 12-0 overall with four games remaining before post season play begins.

It was a Northport rout in a Division I road game against Sachem East which featured a running clock with six minutes to go in the first half. The Tigers just peppered the scoreboard all game long dousing the Flamming Arrows 18-1 in the Apr. 5 matchup.  

It was Kaylie Mackiewicz’s stick that spoke loudest scoring five goals and two assists. Shannon Smith had three assists and one goal, and Isabella Germani netted four. Northport junior Megan Morris had a quiet day in net with two saves. 

The win lifts the Tigers to 3-0 in league one game behind top seeded Ward Melville. 

Northport retakes the field April 8 where they’ll host Connetquot with a 5 p.m. start.

Looking to build momentum after their victory over Stony Brook School three days earlier, the Lady Royals of Port Jefferson hit a roadblock Saturday morning when they hosted West Babylon. 

In this first league game of the season, they fell to the Eagles 18-5. A young team that had only formed in 2017, the Port Jeff roster includes only four seniors, four sophomores and seven freshmen, who will be challenged in the Class D 2022 campaign. The Lady Royals retook the field on March 29 at home against the Smithtown West Bulls, where the Royals lost, 14-3.

Ward Melville opened their 2022 lacrosse campaign with a home game against West Islip March 22.

Trailing by one goal at the half the Patriots’ sticks spoke loudest the rest of the way cruising to a 9-5 victory in the non-league season opener.

Ava Simonton led the way scoring her hat trick, and Grace Balocca found the net twice. Grace Mulham, Courtney Quinn, MJ Timpanaro and freshman Peyton Phillips all scored. Ward Melville retakes the field Saturday morning at home in another non-league contest against Garden City. Game time is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Having lost their first five games of the season, Middle County needed to get back to their winning ways making short work of Smithtown West at home besting the Bulls, 21-9.

Eight minutes in Middle Country sophomores Kate Timarky and Kaitlyn Ippolito made their presence known with two goals apiece followed by senior attack Alyssa Oddo and Olivia Annunziata who both found the net.

Smithtown West was unable to keep pace trailing by eight at halftime, and three minutes into the second half, it would be a running clock the rest of the way. Smithtown West goalie Erin Fels had five saves in net and Tabitha Bernstein stopped four.

Timarky led the way for the Mad Dogs with five goals and five assists. Oddo had four goals as did teammates Annunziata and Ippolito

The win lifts Middle Country to 3-6 with 5five games remaining while the loss drops Smithtown West to 3-7 with four games left on their schedule.

Shoreham Wading River looked to break a 3-game losing streak but had their hands full when the Bayport-Blue Point came knocking where the Phantom’s tamed the Wildcats 15-4 in a Div-II match-up May 15. Carlie Cutinella scored on a cut to even the score at one all at the 17-minute mark, but the Phantoms edged away scoring two unanswered goals and then four more before Graceann Leonard scored on a penalty shot ten minutes into the 2nd half.

Shoreham-Wading River junior Catherine Erb’s shot found the net 2-minutes later for the Wildcats but Bayport would score five more in the final 11-minutes of play.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 2-4 while Bayport remains atop the Div II leaderboard at 6-0.
